Is this the perfect mix of whiskies for any bar?/ what would you add/remove....dive in and share your thoughts.....
In 2023 my favourites were:
Arran 10 - the value Springbank 10 that’s easy to find
Springbank 10 - the only easily available Springbank!
Kilchoman Senaig - the better Lagavulin 16
Kilkerran 8 Sherry cask - the damn flippers and many shops have put this out of reach, but it’s great stuff
Ardnamurchan Sherry cask - it’s all about the perfect level of peat, there but not dominant, and superbly balanced with the Sherry influence
BEST: Port Charlotte 10 - the standard 10 sets the bar in terms of flavour, strength, complexity, and price compared to how you’d have to outspend it to beat it. A top, top dram.
Maclean's Nose is faaantastic. Cheers, mate!
Review coming soon my friend...cheers
Lovely pick of scotch - every one a belter. I'd chuck in a Benromach 10 to complete the party. Cheers!
You almost invented a new word for the whisky community Alan.
Here it is - Nicesky.
Love your lists every year.
Gotta try the Compass Box as I only buy single malts for scotch. Time to expand a bit.
Love the Bunnahabain 12 yr 2022 cask strength. Only have 3 left so going to be sad when gone as the 2021 & 2023 are good but not as good as the 2022.
Solid 3 bourbons. I just finish a healthy pour of the Elijah Craig BP C923 at 66.5% alc. just delicious.
Expecting 12 inches of snow tomorrow so have my Octomore ready for tomorrow’s pour.
Excellent choices!
The Benromach 2012 and Bunnahabhain 2022 have been phenomenal. Both only get better and richer over time.
Just had another bunna 12 cs 2022 delivered today fir the stash . ...awesome stuff my friend
What a line up! Out of this list I'm most intrigued by the Nose and the Thompson Bros blends, what a testament to the blended Scotch whiskies of our time. Great video Alan!
All belters fella, cant go wrong with any of them...they were chosen by you, me and the community after all...lol😜
Great video my friend.
I fully agree with you on the Kilkerran 16. I hope to always have a Kilkerran 16 open and ready.
You and me both!
Crazy to hear the prices of these bottles where you live Alan…all are so much more expensive in the states…
Pays to be The Whisky Friend!!! 🎉
We have it the other way with bourbon Chaz so expensive here...thanks for dropping by and happy holidays to you and yours my friend...im also sure that the thompson bros will get there eventually...
Bunnahabhain 12 my love ❤
excellent review and information - these all are great ones and pocket friendly as well :)
such a great list here, especially the bourbon picks
All picked by the whisky community and me of course....cheers buddy
Great stuff as always Alan! All are on my Christmas wish list. Really hoping to get my hands on the Bunna 12 CS.
Fantastic Britt what would be your pick my friend...?
This selection is wonderful and exactly what I would pick. Great selection of Bourbons too. Thank you ! The new Kilkerran 16 is fantastic as well by the way.
All belters..thanks for dropping by my friend....
Arran 10, Kilkerran 12 - liked them so much that I got a case each immediately for the years to come. 29 and 35 Euros. Arran is still not so much ore, Kilkerran unfortunately is.
Campbeltown Loch was a positive surprise but huuuge batch variations. Different whiskies.
Another great video Alan. I tried all the OSWA best value & best scotch nominations head-to-head over several days before deciding what to vote for. Ledaig 10 got my vote for best value & despite being reminded just how gorgeous Springbank 10 is I still voted for (last year's winner) Glen Scotia Victoriana in the best scotch category. Ballechin 18 got my People's Choice nomination in that category. Maclean's Nose got my vote for best blended. Orchard House got my vote for blended malt. For best non-malt I'd have liked more diversity in the nominations - definitely including at least one rye from somewhere in the world & maybe also an African whisky with millet in the mash bill. Eagle Rare is nice stuff though!
Excellent list of budget whiskies when you also include Ledaig 10 and Glencadam 10. I would add The Original Ten from Benriach. Cheers !
Forgot the wonderful port charlotte 10 and deanston 12 to....were so lucky...cheers fella
Alan, 12 great whiskies! Good to see some blends.
Happy Holidays.
I think its a great mix for any bar/ something for everyone....happy thanks giving when it comes big fella...and i will raise a glass to you my friend....
@thewhiskyfriend Cheers to you Alan. A pour of SB Local Barley with that beautiful lemon note!!
Great choices dear Alan. My people’s choice was also Kilkerran 16… which is better than Springbank 10 in my opinion. Thanks 🙏 ciao 👋 S.
Kilkerran 16 is fabulous ..cheers for your support my friend....
Fettercairn 16 3rd edition, fabulous, just bought a case of 6 so I’ve got no worries about my supply, I’d agree with the ,bunna, arran and kilkerran, tremendous quality for very little money.
Not had a fettercairn for a long time Paul...is it that good fella?
@@thewhiskyfriend wonderful stuff, it's the first I've had for years too and it's way better than I remember. They've released the 4th edition this year and I'm going to give that a try soon, it's been well received.
Hi Alan, good list video, some I’ve had, some not, other malts are on my list though. Slàinte Alan 🥃
Which ones are on your list fella.?
@@thewhiskyfriendCampbeltown loch is on my list. Both blends and the(got the rare breed) other two bourbons are not on my list. The rest I’ve had or got, slàinte Alan.
Thanks for sharing Alan.
Slàinte mhath
I know not enough peat fella....lol
😂@@thewhiskyfriend
Eagle Rare is chillfiltered, at least here in the states it is. I'm not sure about the international version, if there is one.
Thanks for the info andy...i will recheck at my end fella...
If you have tried the TB/BSW alongside a Macallan 12 you know there is a similarity 😉 no idea what percentage is Malt but it is pretty high and such a bargain!
Ive heard a rumour that the tb/bsw is teaspooned macallan and the blended whisky is teachers...thanks for dropping by fella....get a backup for the stash as this one will not be around for ever my frirnd
@@thewhiskyfriend Like your thinking Alan but I already got a few 😁
affordability and availability should come before anything. Rare breed should be the only option from the standpoint.
Kilkerran 12 is $100 in the Eastern US, it is not a value bottle at all for me. Bunna 12 at $60 and Arran at $55 are not bad for the price.
Yes thats too much money my friend which is a real shame as its a belter...thanks for dropping by my friend...happy holidays....cheers
Hi Allen, do you have any Madeira matured single malts in your stash? Could you review some of them?
A bit of Glenallachie Madiera...ruclips.net/video/ZGokEbC4aMU/видео.html
What did he say?
What accent is this?
these awards are a bit silly by now. I love all these whiskies, but none reach the same quality and level as cask strength whiskeys from independent bottlers. find the fine bottlings from bunnahabhain, edradour, glenlossie, deanston, Caol ila, glenlivet from signatory, adelphi, lotg, james eaddie. with or without sherry casks. This is where the good stuff is.
You maybe correct my friend but cask strength whisky is not for everyone and ib's are very limited bottles and not as easy as these to get in many markets...and whisky is so subjective...thanks for dropping by my friend....
What language is he speaking?
Its english fella...😜
English, with a few wee drops of Scotia.
