In my scotch exploration I avoided the peaty ones like the plague because of others comments. Finally broke down and tried Laphroaig 10, to this day it is my favorite whiskey. Don't be afraid to try something, your tastes may be different than others.

Bruh facts. I started easy with Bunahabain 12, then went to Highland Park 12, then Kilchoman Machir Bay Spec's pick, then Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie, and Ardbeg 5 was just outstanding to me and from what I've been told, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan are even better.

As always, it's great to see Bunnahabhain get some love. My entire scotch world changed when I discovered this exact bottle shoved in the corner of a shelf at a local privately owned liquor store. It's a non-peated Islay that has more character than Stephen Tobolowski in a 90's movie.

My first whisky love was Scotch, even taking several trips to Scotland (the homeland of my paternal lineage). After moving to Indiana 22 years ago, I developed a friendship with a local expert in the spirits industry and entered into a couple decades of tutelage in the bourbon world. At the time, decent bourbon was much less expensive than decent Scotch; not necessarily so much any more. At this point, being poly-spirit-ual, I enjoy both realms, but there is just something special about a great Scottish dram. Thanks for the entertainment, wisdom and honest perspective of your channel. Keep it up, guys!
P.S. - Great Selections! A couple I would add include Balvenie 12yr single barrel, and Lagavulin 18yr. While the malt in Balvenie single barrel is dried by a peat fire, it is completely isolated from the peat reek as it dries; thus the whiskey is malt and barrel driven without any smoke or peat adding to the notes. Conversely, Lagavulin is a rich islay alchemy of barley, peat, smoke, barrel and sea air. It is wonderfully complex and lovely.

  • @jimreichel1466

Thank you so much for giving Scotch some love. Of your choices, I have had the Compass Box, the Bunnahabhain, and the Glenallachie. These are so good. I would also include the Craigellachie 13 Year, the Clynelish 14 Year and anything from Glenglassaugh. Sláinte.

You’re tempting me to move into the single malts … I’ve had a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 … based on your videos and Phil, and one other guy … I’m going to pick up a Bunnahabain 12 and an Ardbeg 10 … but may have to go Port Charlotte …. Also may grab the Balvinie American sweet oak or the classic laddie, or the the arran 10. Too many to choose!!
And I’ll have to get a new cabinet, as bourbon and rye dominate my shelves now. 😂😂

My first peated scotch was the Ardbeg Uigeadail. The only way I could finish the bottle was to think of the fire scene in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It smells like the town burning down and tastes like ham, band-aids, and iodine. I have no idea how I know what those last two taste like but I'm 100% certain that's what they taste like. So if you get a bottle, try pretending you're a pirate. It worked for me.

    Klynelish 14 YO
    Arran 18 YO
Ledaig 10 YO or 18 YO

Was really hoping Trenton would try the Springbank. Since quitting smoking I can't handle peat, but even when I could I used to keep a Springbank 12 as a joke to laugh at guests. Never met a single person who liked it. The burning tires, eggs, and salt is so objectionable!
Would recommend the Glenallachie 15 as the best version of that line, and Glendronach 18 which is the best sherry whisky I've ever had. Of course that was more like a 22 year, so really I might be recommending the Parliament. Good list though, the Bunna 12 is absolute S tier scotch.

I have had Bunahabain 12, Highland Park 12, Kilchoman Machir Bay Spec's pick, and now after breaking into Ardbeg, I can honestly say, I am a peat head for sure. I haven't had them all, but great collection.
I prefer Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Kilchoman, over port Charlotte, because I prefer the more ocean type peat.
Id replace the Glenlivet 12 with Compass Box Glasgow. Of the budget ones I've had, it is far superior.
I'd also have a hard time not including Ledaig 10, but obviously you have to stop somewhere.
And you overlooked probably the second or third best bottle shown.
That would be Benromach cask strength for around $90. It's the closest thing to Campbelltown you can find.
I haven't had their 15, but people really like that one as well.
It would be interesting to know what Trenton's top ones are.

Laphroig 10 my suggestion for readily available Peated scotch. Laphroig Select is more smoke without bandaid or brine if you want to introduce novices to a more strongly flavored but still approachable. Port charlotte is my introductory peat pour .Johnnie Walker green label if you want a baby step into smoke

Arran 21 is a phenomenal whisky if you can find it.

I'm a bourbon guy. I bought the costo tour of scotland pack to try out the different scotch varieties, and have a bottle of Belvenie double wood. To me (in my very limited exposure) scotch just doesn't compare to bourbon flavor wise. Maybe it's because I'm a proof hound and most scotch is lower abv comparatively, I dunno, but bourbon is just so much better to me. Maybe I need to try more stuff.
