His ability to make a lasting impression even if it’s a cameo. - the movie, Summer in Bethlehem is a perfect example. There is nothing revealed about his character- Niranjan’s past through flashbacks - he narrates it, and that makes us understand the pain and perils that his character went through even as he was holding on to his guilt. Don’t get me wrong, Madhavan is a great actor, but I doubt he could have made us feel the way Mohanlal did by narrating the story. That segment from the movie left us all crying in the theater. None of the anchors have done a good interview with Mohanlal. All asking the same questions about the latest film, how do you act, some general news and opinions. None of the interviews i have seen of Mohanlal is able to give a peek into what makes the actor tick. John Brittas interview was such a disaster, due to the anchor continuously interrupting, whenever Mohanlal speaks. A common behaviour that is noticed by the film makes who direct Mohanlal is that, he does not seem to do anything, but when it comes to screen, the impact is amazing. It has been repeatedly told, by many directors like, IV Sasi, Lal, Jeetu Joseph, K V Anand, Ram Gopal Varma. When Mohanlal was trying to say something in the John brittas interview about that, Brittas interrupted him and the flow was lost. Mohanlal is a genius, like Picasso and Brando, in that he is able to bring he same consistency in performance in even two scenes. Brando remarked once, that there is only so much of characters that an actor can play. If that is the case, then Mohanlal has no parallel in world cinema. Interviewers never seem to understand the depth of the artist that Mohanlal is and it is so sad. Check out the reactions that Mohanlal gives. Sadayam is a perfect example. The scene where he realizes that he has unwittingly become the reason for the descent into destruction of the girl, is brilliantly presented by Mohanlal. When, KPAC lalitha and the pimp charecter taunts him, Mohanlal does not react in the usual way the audience expects him to react, like getting angry or becoming frustrated. His performance at that time is that of a man slowly losing his grip to reality. It is absolute genius performance. Like that there is another scene in Kireedom in the song, when he sees his lover in the marriage procession. The camera is focussed on Mohanlal and he looks at her and immediately takes a breath. Mohanlal's acting is like a painting. The more you see, the more nuances you can find.
What a insightful perspective on Mohanlal’s brilliance, I myself consider blessed to be born in Mohanlal and Mammootty ‘s era, and i have the same opinion on the last scene at Drishyam, he outshines Kamal Hassan.
@@RJ-jt1lq Respect your opinion as an opinion. But KH failed cause of over the top acting style in both Paapanasham & UPO which were remakes as well have Mohanlal presence. Let me share my version; basically tamilians believe over the top acting is what "acting" is. This suits a stage drama but in a cinema where locations are real or created in a realistic manner, the performance must be real and must sync with the environment. Now in Wednesday, Naseer was so natural (intact the best amongst the 4) that you see a character. While Kamal made it looked artificial when he added a tinge of heroism and yankee accent. This was totally uncalled for. In other hand Mohanlal looked extremely confident in his style that he was intimidated by Anupum Kher. So he delivered a performance which didn't draw comparisons and yet brilliant. Check critics reviews then to understand that. Now to Paapanasham vs Drishyam, Mohanlal character is shown as a silent, calculated shrewd man. Once he took over the responsibility of the crime, he was so cautious and calculated that he didn't even make a false move. Even his poker face confession during climax was a sign of that. A man who doesn't reveal the dreaded secret to his wife will never take a chance with the officer family even if they are out of power. But Kamal's character on other hand was shown as a motor mouthed simpleton. Now tell me what consistency did you see in that sketch. One side he comes up with a brilliant plan on spot and doesn't reveal to his wife. But on other hand he cries out loud as if he was confessing. Why should he cry if he hasn't done a crime is good enough charge!! This was a big failure from the actor. Now just to sign off, the police station walk scene after the burial....Except Mohanlal, all actors in remakes including Kamal Hassan walk out with a sense of confidence as if they are sure there was no one to watch them or anyone around. See the way Mohanlal's eye balls move left n right as a sign of caution just to ensure no one is around. Now that's actor's brilliance because Jeethu himself directed Kamal.
Correction: Sir , just watch Ajay devgan's and Kamal Hasan's performance in the respective remakes. Then you can understand whether it's a performance oriented movie or not.
I don't like pullimurugan personally as it's a mass entertainment.but lucifer was a great film with mass and Mohanlal great acting with his intensity of eyes.
80s and 90s were the best time in malayalam cinema because there were so much talented writers like mt,padmarajan, lohithadas. While they make classy movies with classy dialogues writers like damodhar, dennis joseph,sn swamy, renjith, renji panicker made some massy movies with classy dialogues. We had master directors like bharathan,kg george, priyadarshan, sathyan antikad, hariharan, iv shashi, sibi malayil. Also cant forget writers like sreenivasan, reghunath palery. The level of variety and quality was high those times.,sidique lal, rafi mecartin, rajasenan, priyadarshan made some all time comedy classics at the same time.list goes on
I too had an impression on Drishyam that mohanlal got lucky with good script and direction and the need of the hour like story. But my thoughts changed as seeing kamalhasan on his place. Mohanlal has tricked us just like Georgekutty in Drishyam. All of malayalees realised it after that. Thus started another era of Mohanlals stardom.
This is so true, actually first time i felt it was just the script and lal didnt do anything. but when i saw it again he was even acting against the audience as a character. very well said, that you will realize when you see other actors performing this.
Mohanlal is a legend , doesn't even need a movie....He was a host in Big boss Malayalam and I was part of the audience while shooting...was amazed with his working style ,committment , presentation and kindnes towards all his co-workers.....He is truly a good human being .He allowed us to take a pic in his caravan too.,a dream come true....adding that whatever he does,he does with precision and dedication.... Everything and everyone is important to him
Mohanlal in Dashradham,Aham,Pakshae,Thuvanathumbikal,Ulsavapettennu,Bharatham, Season, etc were totally outstanding...And that kinda performance make him one of the finest actors in this planet.its true that nowadays there are not so many talented directors or writers to challenge his caliber..
Maybe he personally felt thanmatra n drishyam as bests from mlal, and brahmaram isn't. Is that a blame to have a difference of opinion? Why do u expect ur same opinion from others?
Teaming up with young bloods in Malayalam cinema like Anjali menon, shyam pushkaran, ashik Abu, lijo etc are the only way we will get to see him breaking the walls again and doing some realistic and dramatic , complex stuffs like he used to do in tanmatra, bharatam, vellanakalude naad , kireedam etc
Also there is no big deal in making a hit if u do a voice modulation, body make overs, good script, super screenplay, big production house etc..The real talent is to get a hit out of nothing, get appreciations from a simple role or make a heartful impact with a grin or a smile. If we take Bharatham and Kireedam for which Mohanlal won National awards were very simple boy next door roles and he does both of them with almost same attire, same physique etc. This actor has the amazing capabilities to be the character rather than using make overs, voice modulation etc. which many of super stars fail to possess which makes him the King of all the bests!!
HE IS THE ONLY SUPERSTAR WHO IS ALSO A GREAT ACTOR......AMITABH MADE A GREAT ACTOR AFTER HE LOST STARDOM TO SRK...KAMAL SIR AND MAMOOTY ARE GOOD BUT NOT THE BOX OFFICE KINGS IN THEIR INDUSTRY....
I am not a fan of any actor.. But one thing i can say that " Mohanlal is great actor N great superstar. But at the same time Mammootty is also like him. Great actor N Great superstar"
What l think as middle class malayali guy who grew up during mid 90's and 2000 There were so relatable struggling middle class young man characters which gave him a kind of a big brother image When you watch movies like varavelp, thenmavin kombath, kilukkam, pattanapravesham, chandralekha - (the list is so long ) you get a feeling like you know this guy that's a factor which brought this familiarity to malayali minds and his looks too he was not a well built figure but had the above average malayali look to be clear Again these same movies influenced the very next generation too . The above mentioned movies were entertaining and had high rewatch value.
Very well said. Well scripted and well narrated. Very critical in your views which is awesome and something that lacks in many you tubers who does review/critics/etc...good job man. I am a Mohanlal fan. But I do something like you when it comes to being critical. I always make sure to give fair share of applauds to the makers too.
Moahanlal once said " films will happen you can't force it to happen..." That is why i am waiting for marakkar...because it is directed by priyadarshan and i hope i can see mohanlal as a star and asa an actor in that film 😍
Sir, your comment about mohanlal's dhrishyam's climax was absolutely correct... he did it without any effort and that simple gestures and notions really surprised the audience...
The reason why Itthikara Pakki is a reason for his longevity is because this explains his interest in doing good roles even if it's not the main role. Many actors reject such good cameo roles thinking that it will upset fans. But Lalettan always used to do cameos if he found those roles interesting. This adds more versatile roles to his filmography and also exercises his acting skills...
I don't think any of today's actors can match Mohanlal Mammooty Suresh Gopi or other lead actors from their generation. The main reason I would say is that Malayalam industry lacks good writers now.Their generation had numerous number of outstanding writers like Padmarajan, MT, Lohithadas, Raghunath paleri, Siddique Lal, Sreenivasan etc. Today we lack enough supporting actors too. We had the world's best actors list once with a fantastic lineup of Jagathy,Thilakan,Gopi,Oduvil,Nedumudi,Shankaradi,Karamana, Innocent,Murali,Sukumari,KPAC lalitha,Kalpana etc. Actually the enormous number of writers, directors and supporting actors Malayalam once had played an important role in building talented superstar actors like Mohanlal Mammooty or Suresh Gopi. No other industry can boast of that. But now industry is not that capable enough. We got good directors and technicians. But lack novel stuffs. Hope actors like Fahadh Faasil and Prithviraj Sukumaran bring back the lost glory.
The reason is very simple - If a person has acted in 370+ movies consistently and continuously and has almost 300 hits, 5 national awards, 80+ movies remade and always avoided repetitive stuff to a major extent and still stays as super 🌟 means his effortless acting and unmatched skills....there is NO other actor atleast in India, who has done Class, Mass & Comedy in the same proportion which makes him more special. People can claim Kamal Rajini Bachchan etc. but the truth is only Mohanlal and this can be judged or vetted by only another person who understand malayalam and had watched atleast 70-80% of Mohanlal films. Not taking any credits of other actors, but it is very difficult to compare other top stars with Mohanlal on making very normal roles a huge hit or impact. He is a phenomena.
Simply put, no other actor comes even close to the level of his performances. He is without dispute the most natural actor in the world. Take Hollywood actors who win multiple Oscars. They put in several years of effort into a character and then it affects their own life, whereas Mohanlal sir does 10 movies a year and they are all different in every way and it hasn’t affected him in any way.
Hollywood makes movie in 3 months or 5, malayalam due to budget makes movies in less amount of time so ofcourse Mohanlal can do 5 or 10 in one year. Most scripts in hollywood take time to go through from scriptwriter to director everyone has to go through like actors for the project to be financed and start filming. They're very meticulous over there so imagine auditioning all the actors will take more time since the film doesnt depend on one actor. Its different logistics so can't compare Mohanlal to Hollywood actors, the only similarlity is their method and realistic performances but other than that why compare doing 10 movies in one year to hollywood actors doing way less than that in one year, when hollywood actors are not in control of what film they will work in.
I think Mohanlal and Mammootty are the only ACTORS in the world who considered as Both Super star and Super actor... When we take any actor, he may be super star or super (talented) actor. But when we consider both of these legends, they are superstars and talented actors and at the same time they are ruling the industry since last 40 years as main leading roles... This is exceptional when compared to any other industry and that's why both these actors acted in 5-7 other industry films and got attention among non keralites. I don't think any other superstars got such a lucky chance to act in different industries except Kamal Hassan. But the difference is that Kamal is always considered as best actor because of old movies only.
Bringing back the alpha male tradition of several past Mohanlal movies , Lucifer is a must watch. The nearly 3 hour movie is a seamless flow of narratives from political skullduggery, visceral machismo, subtle layering of occult and throbbing music. One of the rare movies in Malayalam that demands the viewers full attention and still makes room for repeated viewing.
What must've excited him in Pulimurugan must've been the possibility of an all time blockbuster, especially because the genre was fresh, and all the man vs animal angle (that could've been betterly done). Also the contribution as an actor he can give to an average script and give that depth it might've lacked on paper..
People always consider taking about Drishyam, But I would probably point out Shikar as one of the best standout performance of him post 2010 era... Even when movie goers from different language started watching Mohanlal movies, they always miss out movies like Sadhyam or Thazhvaram for example, which I would Say is one of the best Mohanlal movies of all time...
Few points you are saying is not genuinely nice!! Be it any actor, they need a good film to perform well. You said Drishyam is mainly the script, I do agree but please go through the remakes, Mohanlal sir, our dear Lalettan has played it so classy and genuine. Even Kamal did so much overacting in that film.! And secondly, one of the main business of Kayamkulam Kochunni was Mohanlal's cameo.! Odiyan is not a very good movie in the sense of the director, but it is watched and people always appreciate Mohanlal for his classy performance. No movie done till date done by Mohanlal is bad because of him, it's either the wrong time of release or not very visionary direction. He has an ability to challenge any actor in India new or old for his natural and classy performance. I genuinely feel you must listen to other, so called, stars of other industry you will realise he is best! More than a critic, other actors comments on him is more acceptable and sensible. Critic just sits in AC and talks. You don't see the talent put up! Good luck BR

Love rangan for all the reviews but I never felt your opinions about the 78-85 Mohanlal movies which you never talk about, because in 86 is when he did the over the life characters and even after then he did real to life characters
Bharadwaj Rangan. Why not interview Mohanlal? All your answers might get answered. I have seen Film companion interviewing all great actors and I have wondered why not Mohanlal and Mammooty and Nedumudi Venu.
I feel Mohanlal squandered away his talent post 2000. Consistently chose bad movies. He is still loved for his performances in 90s. He must have been a global phenomenon by now.
It depends on filmmakers from each decade. Now he's changing b.c new generation filmmakers come up but still can't keep doing movies just to please fan clubs.

Bro...
You nailed it.👏👏👏
This man might have easily won an Oscar for his iconic characters ,if he was from Hollywood .
For sure!!
U said it... Drishyam climax of Mohanlal was awesome bcz there was less sentimentals and tears still it was rendered at its best
No need of an explanation ,he is the complete actor accepted by generations of Molly actors and audience
What a insightful perspective on Mohanlal’s brilliance, I myself consider blessed to be born in Mohanlal and Mammootty ‘s era, and i have the same opinion on the last scene at Drishyam, he outshines Kamal Hassan.
I personally believe KH nailed it better than Lal.. my opinion only.. but KH is a better actor than Lal..
R J No.Never.
@@ghostneguz superb man.....u nailed it
@@ghostneguz i want to copy ur analysis....how can i do it?
Correction: Sir , just watch Ajay devgan's and Kamal Hasan's performance in the respective remakes. Then you can understand whether it's a performance oriented movie or not.
Exactly. No one matches up to Mohanlal. No one!

Mohanlal A blessed Indian Actor who makes Malayalam film Industry proud always 💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💕💕💕💕💙💙💙
The level of variety and quality was high those times.,sidique lal, rafi mecartin, rajasenan, priyadarshan made some all time comedy classics at the same time.list goes on
True..sooo true...
Thuvanathumbikal is the best mohanlal movie ever made in my opinion.
completely agree about Company... I recently watched it again just for Mohanlal...
Everything and everyone is important to him
please do an interview with Mohanlal sir it is our request please consider
Interviewil pulli tholvi alle
I really want film companion do a synopsis on all those 80s 90s malayalam movie golden era!!!
Mohanlal in Dashradham,Aham,Pakshae,Thuvanathumbikal,Ulsavapettennu,Bharatham, Season, etc were totally outstanding...And that kinda performance make him one of the finest actors in this planet.its true that nowadays there are not so many talented directors or writers to challenge his caliber..
aham was an excellent movie...but i remember it was a flop at the box office then,,,,,hmm
Pakshe is one of the most underrated performance of mohanlal...he was superb in that movie...
Padamudra and Amrutham Gamaya
simply there is a magic when he comes to act....still amazes us with his flexibility for past 40 years....
See , അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു അവതാരം ആണ് . “
Don’t think too much about him, he is the Unexplainable Magic.
You must watch... Udayon and Paradeshi two of the most underrated performances of Mohanlal ,just like loudspeaker and paleri manikkam of Mammooty
Good one..
But , you didn't mention about mohanlal's carrier best performance like Vaanaprastham , Sadhayam , Kireedam , Bharatham etc...,
You never mentioned "Bhramaram" when you talked about the recent bests like Thanmatra and Drishyam !
Maybe he personally felt thanmatra n drishyam as bests from mlal, and brahmaram isn't. Is that a blame to have a difference of opinion? Why do u expect ur same opinion from others?
Yes Bhramaram Finest performance. Now Pulimurugan, Lucifer etc superb
Bhramaram is not recent
@@sriganeshbalasubramanian1506 Not Pulimurugan.
But , they are not in good terms because of AMMA issues and all...
Only chance is with LJP...And other young makers
He acting skill, his simplicity and passion makes him the best actor in the world.
I love mohanlal. but yes I agree with you. if I have to show movies of mohanlal to show his acting potential I will show them old movies of his.
But one thing i can say that "
Mohanlal is great actor N great superstar. But at the same time Mammootty is also like him.
Great actor N Great superstar"
Amitabh is all time super star in Bollywood. SRK is way behind.
@@venugkvenu1718 You're right Amitabh Bachchan is the Shahenshah Of Bollywood.
What l think as middle class malayali guy who grew up during mid 90's and 2000
There were so relatable struggling middle class young man characters which gave him a kind of a big brother image
When you watch movies like varavelp, thenmavin kombath, kilukkam, pattanapravesham, chandralekha - (the list is so long ) you get a feeling like you know this guy that's a factor which brought this familiarity to malayali minds and his looks too he was not a well built figure but had the above average malayali look to be clear
Again these same movies influenced the very next generation too .
"All time Greatest Actor" Sri 🔥Mohanlal🔥
Moahanlal once said " films will happen you can't force it to happen..."
That is why i am waiting for marakkar...because it is directed by priyadarshan and i hope i can see mohanlal as a star and asa an actor in that film 😍
You are the one whom Mohanlal really deserves to be interviewed by.
Mohanlal sir is one of the worlds best actor ever.
Just say it man “ He is the greatest of all time in country “
Sir, your comment about mohanlal's dhrishyam's climax was absolutely correct... he did it without any effort and that simple gestures and notions really surprised the audience...

Marlon Brando of India - Times Magazine ❤️
We have many great actors in India...But Mohanlal is a Genius, an acting University. This is the truth!
as a Mohanlal fan best review I have seen about him by a person well done sir
He's connection with common people, the ease his character development...
Divine actor (അനുഗ്രഹീത നടൻ )
Bharatham,Kireedam, spadikkam, killukkam, yodha,Devasuram, iruvar, Narashim am,Vanaprastham etc are his outstanding performance last Thuvanathumbikal
No 3 actor in the world . IMDb rating . No 1 actor in India 🇮🇳
Nadana Vismayam Mohanlals superb performances from 2005 to 2019 dec ;

Sir did u see bramaram, kireedam thanmathra ,vanaprshasm bhratham, shpdikam
Films like thanmatra sadayam etc. He amazed me...such an actor
And I'm pretty sure if a good script and a good director comes ,he can still amaze us
@sai srinivas yeah
Characters in films like sadayam and bhramaram matches your opinion
It's the balance he doesn't have much stardom if he feels it's a good movie for him he does, willing to experiment and still have the power of a star
If Shyam pushkrn/ Anjali menon doesn’t make a movie with mohanlal, it’s their major loss.
