Bobby Shew is one of the greatest of our time. As trumpet player, musician and last but not least - a man of beautiful personality full of friendliness.
@freeeeeeedy Yeaaah, I was looking for good examples of brass tone, so I wasn't really paying attention to them, but now that you mention it... Are you sure they're union execs? 'Cause that would imply they met each other before they walked on stage..., at times they don't sound like it. Definitely got some chops, and do some nice things, but it would be better it they did them at the same tempo.... Nice (make that NICE) flugel, though
history behind this tune...he wrote it for Don Menza when he was in his band because Don had a flame on his ass the entire rehersal. heard this from bobby's mouth too no bull shit.
Tony Richards on drums.Sadly passed now but check out the 'Tony Richards - in memory of the UK jazz drummer' page on Facebook - facebook.com/rememberingUKjazzdrummerTonyRichards/
One of the prettiest, most effortless flugel horn sounds that exist. I sure love Bobby's playing!

There is nothing better than listening to this.
Bobby Shew is my idol as a trumpet player, this man is amazing.
Bobby on his old Couesnon flugelhorn, what a sound!!!!!
I could not agree more! I could listen to this every single day.
Is Bobby playing a Couesnon here? Early 80s makes me assume he was not on the Yamaha yet. He sure sounds incredible on it.
Tune is Red Snapper, which Bobby wrote.
Swing on Tony, miss you
my trumpet teacher had HIM 4 a teacher, the lucky fella
such a great player
Fantastic!
Shrew bares an uncanny resemblance to another great hornman: Al Hirt.
Bobby played lead trumpet in the band Jeff Sturges and Universe.
