A Chinese car brand that has been selling cars for less than a year drives the CEO of a century-old car brand crazy. What have you been doing for a century, Ford?
Making money by selling overly-large, feature filled ICE vehicles for more profit and therefor not pivoting when they should have. My unfounded opinion: The CEO of Ford doesn't have to care. It's great that Farley broke CEO kayfabe and has complimented other EVS, I hope they back it up with a new Focus Electric or Chevy Bolt comparable. The mach-E is doing great especially with a lower price and the new improved motor but still way more than I ever want to spend on any vehicle, also too big.
Regarding EU ICE subsidies, is there a way to get a figure for subsidies on a per vehicle basis for ICE vehicles? Not only for the vehicle itself, but also for oil and gas to see what the ongoing subsidy is per year for ICE cars.
Regarding the heat pump being made standard on the new Ford Mach-E: I've always wondered why heat pumps are not standard on all EVs. Is the cost difference between a heat pump and an AC+Resistive heater really that great?
My guess is that an EV is full of technology that requires new tooling and supply chains for a legacy automaker. The design process has to focus on "must have" things like electric drivetrains and save "nice to have" things like heat pumps for the refresh cycle.
Well, anything that is different is more expensive than something you already have in your supply chain. Keeping as many things the same from vehicle to vehicle reduces overall costs. The Ford cooling systems especially were noted in teardowns to be full of similar parts to thier ICE vehicles. It's also important to remember that these kinds of systems are still "new" to the auto industry so IMO it was the right move to take thier time to try to get it right instead of just jumping in.

Trump's initial lack of support for solar and EV's will amount to nothing more than a speed bump to the mass adoption of these technologies. The ball is rolling for this adoption and the lack of incentives will only slow it down, but this slow down will evaporate as prices fall for EV's below that of ICE vehicles. The economics (and other benefits) of an EV over an ICE vehicle will win over most people.

@@rp9674 You may be incorrect. To walk a lot, I need extra food. That works out to more energy in the form of food than the energy needed for an efficient car. Food energy is produced on farms that consume hydrocarbons to run machines over the fields. Soft Car's CT Buddy is enticing but at around €23,000, the pricetag certainly is not, especially when cross-shopped against many other smaller, cheaper EVs. Fiat is finding this out the hard way by overcharging for it's Fiat EV500, causing it to halt the vehicle's production for a number of months due to low demand; the car is great, but again, like the CT Buddy, the price tag most definitely is not for such a small vehicle. The modestly sized battery packs of both vehicles kind of makes it hard to justify the high purchase prices, even when making allowances for R&D & homologation costs.

Very well said Nikki Re: Tesla and Elon. I love Tesla and have a model Y, but greatly disappointed in Elon's behavior. Elon has had a great impact on the world towards moving to a sustainable and cleaner environment and I hope Elon/Tesla keep pushing forward on this.
@18:38 Important to note that Tesla will provide a free upgrade to AI4 or 5 if Tesla cannot achieve the required level of safety with HW3 for full autonomy, for people who purchased the FSD option... So Tesla WILL KEEP ITS PROMISSE that HW3 cars will be capable of becomming robotaxis! A bit disingenuous to leave this important context out of the video! But to me it is seems Tesla will do its very best to achieve full autonomy with HW3, that is in their best interest, because otherwise millions of cars will fall off the list of potential robotaxis.
@@keeperMLT Elon Musk said it very clearly during the earnings call and was picked up by many other RUclipsrs and media outlets like Electrek... I cant put links here as YT will remove my response immediately, but the exact quote was like this: Elon: If it turns out that HW3 can't achieve unsupervised FSD with an appropriate safety level, we will upgrade HW3 to HW4 free of charge. In his usual stuttering way he added to that it would be for cars with purchased FSD. Google is your friend for finding many sources explaining this. It was not an off the cuff statement, it clearly was scripted, so Tesla has thought about this and make sure it will be possible to provide such an upgrade. It is quite a relief for me, because right after the We Robot event I was to believe my FSD purchase was for nothing and I could never deploy my Model Y as a robotaxi.. now this has changed 180 degrees to the opposite, so I am quite happy about that.
@@transportevolved Like I said, it is in Tesla's interest to keep the number of potential robotaxi's as high as possible.. A 5000 dollar 'AI4 upgrade' investment in an existing car to become a robotaxi providing Tesla recurring $10.000-$50.000 per year per car is a pretty compelling business case. We talking about potentially 5-6 million cars here, of which maybe 10% are eligible for the FREE upgrade, because these are equipped with FSD. Replacing these cars with complete new ones will take many years and would slow down the roll out of the robotaxi network significantly and cost a lot more of course. And of course Tesla is a for profit company, but the mission has not changed: "To accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy" And Robotaxi's fit very well into this mission because Robotaxi's are electric very efficient with energy and the utilisation of the cars will increase significantly as a robotaxi, from maybe 5% of the time used to 75% %or 80% of the time used.

Jim Farley visited China and understands the threat to Ford globally. Chinese EVs are cheaper than the ICE vehicles (ie.. BYD Seagull cost $10K.). Market share of Chinese vehicle sales will increase exponentially in countries (Panama, Sudan, Australia, Phiippines..etc…) that don’t have an indigenous auto industry. Those countries are not going to put tariffs on Chinese vehicles and will reap the benefits of low cost over US made vehicles. US companies like GM and Ford will be displaced globally in those indigenous countries. Soon, GM and Ford will be isolated to only selling in the US. Chinese EVs will be cheaper GM and Ford ICE vehicles in those countries that don’t have an indigenous auto industry..

Do you know what CONSUMES carbon emissions? The answer is simple: trees and forests. Trees and forests have been cleared away in support of livestock and housing. If you become a vegetarian, you will be doing the planet good. Save the trees or plant more trees to reduce CARBON emissions. Don’t support livestock and feed for livestock as it vastly increases carbon emissions. You still have to clear land to grow vegetables, but you don’t want to clear land and forest on top of it to support/feed livestock. The fewer the livestock, the less carbon is exhaled by the liverstock. In addition, forest are preserved so that means carbon will be consumed out of the environment. This is a double positive to the environment . This helps reduce carbon emissions, thus reducing pollution.
As a matter of fact, trees capture less carbon than many other plants and it really is the upper couple of feet of the ocean that do most of it. Monoculture forests as often get planted when people plant trees are about the worst thing going. The succession that naturally happens is generally better.
@@kensmith5694I suggest you do more reading. If people don’t consume livestock, there is less incentive to “farm” livestock. This means less clearing of EXISTING forestlands (which is already biodiverse) to support livestock and feed. This means fewer animals exhaling carbon emissions. A cow will emit more carbon emissions than a human just because of its size. You missed the point entirely. I never suggested or recommend a monoculture forest as a solution. A biodiverse forest will 4 times more than likely consume more carbon emissions than monoculture forest.
A person emits an average of 7.01 tons of CO2 per year. This varies greatly depending on the lifestyle of each person (food, transport, housing, etc.). Although the carbon absorption capacity can vary, it is generally considered that a tree can store about 167 kg of CO2 per year, or 1 ton of CO2 per year for 6 mature trees. This means that more than 67 trees would have to be planted a year to offset the CO2 emissions of a single person. A typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Democrats seem to hate success, Elon Musk voted for Biden in 2020, and just months later Tesla was ignored and not invited to the Whitehouse EV 'summit' and shortly after that the famous "You led Mary, you electrified the whole industry' speech by Joe Biden at some GM plant... At that point they lost Elon Musk for the Democratic party, and was only emphasized with more harassment by the SEC and that woke judge in Delaware. However he appears at ralleys now, I still have a feeling he does not support Trump to the fullest, Elon Musk carefully chooses his words, and I think his support comes more from opportunism than conviction.. I really hope that after Kamala Harris wins (I think she will win with a landslide, many reports of registered republicans voting blue right now) She will reach out to Tesla, and Elon Musk to make it work between them more productively and the herassment stops. In the end their goals are the same, provide the American people a brighter, cleaner, prosperous future.

I support Trump without any reservations. I also have the same support of solar power and EV's. Those two statements may seem to go against one another, but they don't.

Hi Nikki, Nice opening statement. The Ying and Yank of Elon.
Asperger syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects a person's ability to interact socially and communicate nonverbally. It's a type of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and is often considered a high-functioning form of autism.
While he is extraordinarily gifted he is surely as extraordinarily challenged as well. I'd like Harris to recommend the Medal of Freedom to him and Gwynne for their contributions to United States space program. If you can't beat them - make them one of the team.
Asperger’s should never be used as an excuse for supporting someone who said Adolf Hitler did some good things.
We have friends and family who have various medical conditions, including ASD. They would be mortified if someone used an excuse like that to explain behavior like his.
Elon musk is supporting a fascist. Tesla has as a company, reached a point where it would do well to separate itself from his behavior. Hopefully shareholders will agreee. - Nikki

I am very proud of Elon's actions . Can you understand ?

@18:38 Important to note that Tesla will provide a free upgrade to AI4 or 5 if Tesla cannot achieve the required level of safety with HW3 for full autonomy, for people who purchased the FSD option... So Tesla WILL KEEP ITS PROMISSE that HW3 cars will be capable of becomming robotaxis! A bit disingenuous to leave this important context out of the video!
But to me it is seems Tesla will do its very best to achieve full autonomy with HW3, that is in their best interest, because otherwise millions of cars will fall off the list of potential robotaxis.
Tesla’s end goal is to make money. Not keep cars on or off the road. If the first goal means keeping cars updated maybe… Otherwise? meh.
Could you provide a source for that? I haven't heard that promise from a Tesla official. The answer on the earnings call matched what Nikki said.
@@keeperMLT Elon Musk said it very clearly during the earnings call and was picked up by many other RUclipsrs and media outlets like Electrek... I cant put links here as YT will remove my response immediately, but the exact quote was like this:
Elon: If it turns out that HW3 can't achieve unsupervised FSD with an appropriate safety level, we will upgrade HW3 to HW4 free of charge.
@@MarcoNierop "Elon said . . ." Hmph. I paid over $6k in 2019 for FSD in our '18 M3, and later got the HW3 upgrade "free". It still didn't do FSD, and I did not recoup my $6k when we sold the car. Elon got my money once, never again. You cannot believe what he utters.
IOW, If HW4 won't do FSD, don't believe that HW4 will, either.

There is no argument about that and it is because of Tesla and Elon Musk we now are at 10+% of all car sales globally are now electric and legacy car makers have a hard time to keep up with that.
Also it is good to know where his support comes from, Tesla and Elon Musk have been herassed by the Biden administration the past 4 years, and it sure feels Elon Musk has been betrayed by the democratic party...
