    Funny how this series isn't talked about nearly as much as the Red Sox in '04. I can only imagine how exciting it was for the White Sox fans with such a long streak of their own.

    I'm a diehard, true blue, Cub fan and I rooted hard for the White Sox the whole postseason because I wanted Chicago to have a baseball championship. My hometown comes first. Sox had first pennant for the city since '59 and the first WS since '17 and while I couldn't work up the excitement I would for the Cubs, I was proud for Chicago. There were a lot of us, whom I knew, who felt the same way.

I don't get why people have a problem with this. they're two Chicago teams who play in different leagues, and only see each other a few times a season. It's set up perfectly to like both. imo you SHOULD hope your hometown teams both succeed. 2005, what a magical year this was, for me, for Chicago, for the White Sox, and most of all for all Chicago White Sox fans. I was in England during this World Series, but that didn't stop me for enjoying this moment. I was 26 years old at the time, and was living with dread that I would never see the White Sox win the World Series. When I discovered the White Sox had won the World Series it was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, the joy I felt. Laughing like a loon, and yet tears flowing out of my eyes like a bloody waterfall. The White Sox winning the World Series in 2005, ended the 88 year drought, and it also exorcised the demons of 1919. I kept my promise with the Almighty when I vowed if I ever saw the White Sox win the World Series I would stop caring about baseball results. I have kept my end of the bargain now for eleven years going strong. Thank you, Chicago White Sox for the 2005 World Series from this life long White Sox fan. Go White Sox!

      Great post. I was only 19 years old and got to watch it with my Dad who of course told me he's waited all his life for this moment. I remember after we were up 3-0 everyone just knew we were going to win, it was just a matter of waiting to see it happen. I felt very happy at the time but now I realize at only 19 I was pretty fortunate. It would be hard for me to stop caring about White Sox results... I put too much passion into it. I suppose that's healthy, right?

      Having passion about the White Sox is a good thing. I haven't lose my passion for the White Sox. Though I don't miss the feeling of like I need psychiatric help after my teams lose, in either sport, in the playoffs anymore. One of my best accomplishments is keeping my vow with the baseball gods if I ever saw the White Sox win a World Series, I made that vow in 2000. Come 2005 my wish came true. If I one see one White Sox World Series title in my life, fine. If they win more in my lifetime, great. Go White Sox, thank you for the 2005 World Series Championship.

    The 2005 Chicago White Sox are one of the top 10 best MLB teams of all time.
    Wire to Wire
    Our bench had some speed and defense to pepper on in late games
    Our starting pitching was dominant and our bullpen was lights out
    Our hitting relied on BOTH small ball and big ball (4th in the league in HRs)
    Our hitting was clutch 90% of the time AND they adjusted within 4 innings to the best pitchers in the league.

      In 2006 they won 90 games and had a solid season, Detroit won 95 Cleveland won 97. It was a very tough division that year. Problem was the pitching ironically broke down for us, it cost us about 6 games. Buehrle's ERA went from 3.14 in 2005 to 4.92 in 2006!

      +dsuchmiel Overachievers don't hold 1st place in the division for nearly an entire season. They were GOOD. Just plain GOOD. What happened to the White Sox is simple: their division got tougher. Whatever Ozzie did for the Sox Leyland did for the Tigers. And Cleveland was really good too. Kenny Williams standing pat with the roster probably didn't help matters much either. But over-achievers? I have to disagree with that. I hope I explained why we'll enough in this comment.

    • @fallen4life080
      @fallen4life080 8 лет назад +3

      Very true Aggressive Attitude Era the Indians won 97 games (division champs) and the Tigers won 94 (wild card). We on the other hand won 91 and missed out. *however* our biggest problem was our pitching; it had regressed from the 2005 pitching. Mark Buehrle went from a 3.14 ERA in '05 to a whopping 4.76 ERA in '06. Freddy Garcia was solid but José Contreras was higgghjly inconsistent....our pitching cost us at least 6 games. If we had the same pitching we wouldve won the division.
      Also Kenny at the time traded Rowand for Jim Thome. Brian Anderson, who had been a very very very good utility defensive man took over centre field for Rowand. John Garland was traded and we got Javier Vásquez from the Yankees who was almost as good. We had a good year....its just the other two teams had better seasons

      That's because the Red Sox are a more marketable team for some reason. They have Boston all to itself, while the White Sox have to share it with the lovable losers. The worst fans in baseball are Red Sox or Yankees fans. Those people that like those teams even if they've never been to Boston or New York especially and are fuckin assholes. I'm a Mariners fan and I know they've been terrible for years. But I'm still not happy about the large crowd of fans for those two teams that appear in our stadium. There's more fans for them there than when another west coast team comes to town.

    • @HandsOfCinderblock
      @HandsOfCinderblock 10 лет назад

      gameaddict51 Not sure if that's totally fair. I mean, I'm 20 and I've been to Toronto twice in my life. Once last year, and once when I was 2 or 3. I like them because I've grown up watching them. Sure, there are a lot of bandwagon jumpers in the Yankee and Red Sox fan club, but I believe that most of the people who pay to attend a baseball game and root for them are legit fans. I saw the Mariners play New York back in 2006. We were in the cheap seats, so we were surrounded by Yankee fans. There was a 4 or 5 year old kid behind me that would get so excited every time Melky Cabrera came up to bat: "Look mom, it's Melky! Melkyyy!!!" You can't help but enjoy something like that. Those teams have been around for over a hundred years; they have way more legit fans than bandwagoners.

    July and August of 1977 were an exciting time to be in Chicago. Both the Cubs and the White Sox were in first place in their respective divisions and the city was abuzz about the first intra-Chicago World Series in 71 years. Sadly, in September, both teams folded (the Cubs ended the season 81-81 though the White Sox - who led the AL in batting that season - managed to win 90 games but in the highly competitive AL West Division, that was only good for third place) so the All-Chicago WS never happened. But it sure was fun while it lasted!

Same with Houston, a good rotation but with Bagwell and Biggio both past their primes, this was probably the least talented Astros team of this era. Yet they won the pennant, go figure.

    As a fan since 1982 , Finally got to see the Whitesox play in 2005, I was in NY to see us take 2 out of 3 from the Yankees.
    can remember staying up to 5 am watching the World series , happy memories.

      bee boo I think its great you are a fan of both Chicago teams! Kind of like me now officially rooting for both my Mets and now the Yankees once again like I did when I was a kid in the early 90s. You have to. Gotta support your citys sports teams.

    No matter what took so long, no matter what good, bad or mediocre seasons may come, this game reminds me that dreams can happen. But I'll be the first one to tell you, I cried like a baby that night for all the people who never lived to see their Sox finally deliver. Special thanks to everyone on that team, no matter where you go as a player or coach, no matter what you did after that, just know that we Sox fans are eternally grateful to you always and forever.

      Aaron Karr It's unfortunate that the White Sox haven't really done anything after this World Series win. Cubs are next to win.

      I'd say the average baseball fan outside Texas and Illinois don't remember who won in '05

      No not true because some teams garner a larger audience than others..when Bos,NYY, ST Louis, LAD, Tx plays in the WS, the ratings are high regardless
