WE SLEPT NEXT TO AN ACTIVE VOLCANO (Volcán Acatenango Hike)

  • In today's video we did one of our most CHALLENGING hikes ever and go to watch an active volcano erupt right in front of our eyes. One of the craziest experiences of our lives and one of the hardest things we've ever done.
    We started on a Friday morning at 7:30 am being picked up from our Airbnb and set off to the town of La Soledad to start our hike. After a 45 minute drive and some instructions, we started the hike up the volcano. The terrain was very extreme and most of the path was just straight up hill which would give any person a good challenge. After about 5 hours of hiking straight up hill we made it to our base camp and watched the volcano erupt for the first times, but WE HAD NO IDEA how crazy it would be at night. Lava was spewing everywhere as soon as the sun set and we got to see this beast of a volcano in action. We have never seen anything like it.
    After a horrible night's sleep we hiked another 1 hour to the summit to get the beautiful views from the top and to watch the sunrise over the mountains and volcanoes.
    WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND OUR GUIDE HENRY!! He was so funny and an amazing person. He loves taking smaller groups which is a much more personal experience and we had so much fun.

    Wow, what an epic tour, guys! Kudos to you, and better you than us 😂I liked that you asked Henry, "How do we know that we may be in danger of a volcanic eruption," (or, the like). I didn't quite understand Henry's response though. I assume, if a volcano continually spews, it's probably "okay" and not too dangerous as opposed to a volcano that hasn't erupted in decades, and suddenly decides, "It's time!"

    I'm glad you were able to see lava and climb to the top of Acatenango.
    Rainy season is unforgiven in Guatemala,
    and I've seen videos where you can't see anything or climb to the top because of the clouds and rain.
    but the tour companies won't tell you that.
    Well, thank you for your video.

    Awesome video, you certainly had the weather for the hike. The weather for me was terrible, especially the last third going up to the top, its was gale force winds, my microphone almost got blown off my camera and the footage was barely usable. At least with your video I can see what it was supposed to look like. 🙂

    Cool to see you do it but just note that "most* visitors don't do it. Very misleading to say that given how intense it is. You definitely require a certain level of fitness to do it. Pacaya is actually the most popular for this very reason.

    • @JourneywithJenandDrew
      @JourneywithJenandDrew  Год назад

      Totally understand. That was just based on our experience. The majority of the people we talked to did this - granted they are usually young backpackers haha
      But yes, super intense. Pacaya is a better fit for some
