    Would you hike within 300m of Fuego's eruptions?? And if you've done this hike before... how was your weather?
    Since filming this video, we found the PERFECT footwear option... 100% waterproof shoes that LOOK and FEEL great... and are machine washable!! Guess we'll have to redo the hike one day just to show you😉crrnt.app/VESSI/pjlz_AwJ

      I hiked it this year in May. Base camp on Acatenango, the sky was very clear and we took very cool shoots.
      And then hiked Fuego at night. It was completely cloudy and we didn’t see a thing, like, nothing at all soooo it was sad

    I used to hike the tallest guatemalan volcanoes on the first week of november...rain is gone...weather is not that cold yet and you can get very clear skies that time of year.
    Nice videos...thanks for sharing the beauty of Guatemala...from a guatemalan admirer.

The beautiful photos of the volcano brought to focus the two extremes--here you are freezing, but yet if a spark of that lava hit you, you would disintegrate. The wonders of it all--: ) . hey guys I just found your channel.
    my first comment, and my first impression, is that the two of you have absolutely fantastic chemistry and appear to be a simply delightful couple.
    it's quite refreshing to see.
    my second comment is that I have just finished watching the packing for long-term travel video from back in November, and the pair of plastic cups that you would do without, but that you have actually used, would be better served if you were to cut a small slit in the bottom of each of the handles so that they could stack together more tightly.
    additionally, since they are hollow, they shouldn't take up very much space in your packs because you can fill them with anything from socks to Ziploc bags full of tea.
    the last thing I wanted to mention is that I am in the western part of panama, near the volcano (Baru), and if you guys ever get up this way it would be very cool to meet you in person.
    especially to hike the volcano.

    Great video guys! I'm heading to Antigua on Thursday & scheduled to hike Acatenago on 4/21 with Wicho & Charlie. I've watched a couple videos and it looks like there are a couple stands near the beginning of the hike. Can you buy drinks there (water/gatorade/etc)? I'm wondering about cameling up there and saving water for later in the hike and carrying less to save weight. I've hiked Half Dome/Grand Canyon Rim to Rim/etc in the past year so a solid hiker. Did you go through your full 4 liters? TIA

    • @EricandSarah
      @EricandSarah  2 года назад

      Hey! How exciting! There seemed to be a stand at the first restaurant and registration area to buy some things, but those were both in the first 1/4 of the hike so nothing available after that. We did end up using almost all our water (1L is required to give to the kitchen at the top for cooking) and keep in mind drinking water is ESSENTIAL for altitude sickness. You could probably survive with a bit less but always better to have more! We packed all our water in the bag for our porters so that our bags were slightly lighter so that’s an option!

    What stuff was in your own backbag and what were the porters carrying for you? Is there so much stuff you will need?

      @EricandSarah  Год назад +1

      Our own backpacks had camera gear (and snacks) which is why we got porters for our other things. But you could definitely fit all you need in one backpack. Just be prepared that you need to carry all your own food and 4L of water (for personal and cooking use). So that can add quite a bit of weight if you’re not used to hiking with a pack.

      We hiked it near the end of February! Summiting Acatenango for sunrise was included in the tour but the weather was so bad that no one was allowed to hike up. Summiting Fuego is usually done the first day after dinner but the weather was bad then too so we had the option to try in the morning. But with ideal weather you can actually summit both (one for sunset and one for sunrise)!

    I don't recommend the agency.
    I chose it also because of the cottage but it was still cold in the night in reality. I couldn’t fall asleep and was almost awake the whole night. Not me, several people in our group were the same.
    A girl who was in our hostel told me her agency provides all of the gear and the price is much better than this one. I thought maybe the service of Wicho is better. But it's not. The pants they provide are one size. If you are in normal shape, they are exaggerated for you. They are raise-and-down pants which not only increase difficulty but also the risk when you doing the ever-challenging hiking! I tumbled twice when I raise the pants--imagine how busy your hands were! Every several mins have to free one hand from the pole and bottle to raise it. But before we departed the worker told me it doesn’t matter, you just wear it when you sleep. But when you go to Fuego at night and see the sunrise at 4 am the early next morning, you can’t be without it. It’s super cold!! They said “We always make our best effort to provide exceptional customer service that will go beyond your expectations” but even don’t achieve the basic service.
    Besides, We arrived at the agency at 7:00 am and departed at 9:00! They spent 2 hours to rent the gear and have a simple breakfast. When we arrived at the foot of the volcano, we waited 1 hour again! But when we started to climb, the pace is very fast. It’s hard to catch it especially if you are small. They said we have a break every 20 to 30 mins but not really. And the breaks are short-- not enough for you to have some snacks and find a safe spot to have a pee. We were under stress to just go go go. The thing was in reverse. Too loose before start and too tense when start.

    • @EricandSarah
      @EricandSarah  Год назад

      I’m so sorry that this was your experience! We really enjoyed the slow paced morning and fast paced hiking but I can see how that might be a personal preference. There’s no denying the night was COLD (some in our group had trouble sleeping as well) but we definitely appreciated the extra gear and shelters from Wicho and Charlie’s as opposed to other companies’ tents 😬
