Dinuguan is also a delicacy in Greece. The Spartan meal of melas zomos, or black soup, was made of boiled pigs' blood, pork, and vinegar. It is probable that the source of the name fritada for the Guam dish came from a dish of the same name in Monterrey, Mexico where it refers to a stew made with the innards and blood of a young lamb.
You can tell right away, these ladies will love visiting the Philippines someday 🇵🇭 if they love our food they'll probably enjoy experiencing our islands, culture and hospitality ❤
Actually, we are flying to the Philippines this June and my daughter is bringing her best friend from LA and I will be bringing my sister in law which is from Mexico, they will experience the hospitality and the beauty of our Country! Cannot wait!🤭

This dish was brought to Hawaii over half a century ago by Filipinos contracted to work on sugar plantations . You can even find it every day at Japanese and Chinese lunch shops and has been very popular amongst Hawaii's melting pot of nationalities for generations. It's also common to see locals have it for breakfast served with a fried egg on top.
I took a few coworkers to a Filipino restaurant called Bruja in Brighton as they were insistent on trying dishes I ate. From the pancit, chicken adobo, dinuguan and lechon kawali their favourite was the dinuguan. I'm glad more people are willing to try our food.
@@eggy2229 My kids will say yuck if I told them it's blood. Busy as I am, I have no time to fix them another food. Besides, I don't normally cook Filipino food like dinuguan but order it. "Mom" what is this? It's dinuguan. What does that mean, Oh it's chocolate meat." They found out as they grew older though.
I had my first dinuguan at a relative's party when we lived in the Philippines. They told me it was "chocolate" stew. So, the 8 year old me ate two bowls with puto and loved it! They forgot I'm part Irish german, my grandfather often served us drisheen and blutwurst, both blood sausages so dinuguan didn't faze me at all. Jokes on them!! 😂😂
4:21 The 'unexplainable' thing she's referring to is actually umami. Blood has a _lot_ of glutamic acid (or glutamate), which when cooked is one of the reasons why there's that tastiness that's often associated with umami. Edit: The best dinuguan I've ever had _definitely_ has to be the one I had in Ilocos (one of the northernmost provinces). It was *very* thick and meaty, vinegary, had a lot of garlic and chili, and was packed with salty _chicharong bulaklak_ -- which is deep-fried connective tissue you'd find in the abdominal cavity. Exceptionally good, especially with beer. Shaved off maybe a year or two off my life with all that cholesterol. Still worth it though.
I agree po. Other provinces cooked dinuguan that tasted a little sweet. I didn't like it. I like dinuguan to have garlic, vinegar, and lemon grass and taste a little salty.
We each have our opinions to taste but my favorite Dinuguan was from Cagayan De Oro. Tasted Ilocos, and almost every other city’s dinuguan but that was definitely my favorite.
Omg.... U r a chef! I sew ur videos making and serving Filipino food to ur coworkers in the restaurant that ur working for... i love ur chicken adobo recipe its 1000/10
In Scotland, we have black pudding which is blood sausage, sometimes I use it to make dinuguan. My five year old saw me eating dinuguan one time, he asked if he could have some so I gave him a bite before I know it he’s finished it all 😂

@@Jimn-wu yea I remember I don't eat this dish in my childhood days because the way my cousins describes it and besides they're INC and I'm catholic. But when I went to college and there's this karenderya who also offered dinuguan. That's the time I loved the dish. I ate it almost everyday there and that's the best dinuguan for me. Now I'm 33, still the best dinuguan variant I can say. Hope I can visit them again someday & hope they're still open for business. Good old days
Dinuguan like adobo also has a bunch of variations depending on the province. In our province, we cook dinuguan dried and we mix it with chicharon or kawali (whichever available), not too sour but kinda sweet and cruchy, with a touch of spice.
Germans have their Blutwurst which means Blood Sausage, its like dinuguan but in a longganisa tube. Similarly there is black pudding from the UK. Pinoys can make do a dinuguan out of those.

Dinuguan is an acquired taste and I commend these ladies for even trying it. I love the girl’s energy in the black shirt she is so down I love it! The reaction of girl in the red shirt is priceless 👍👏😆 I almost felt bad
There is usually at least one person that gets freaked out hearing there is blood in it before eating. I recommend letting people try the food first. Very good that they all ate it with rice (probably because they were all nervous about the blood). I would also recommend having people eat the Filipino way - with a spoon and fork. (So much easier to eat the meat and rice together with a spoon!)
Nah, its rude to feed someone something without explaining or describing what it is. Let them make the choice. You may unknowingly violate their cultural or religious beliefs. You may also trigger allergies. This is especially true with karekare since it contains peanuts.
Wow nice idea, dinuguan with sriracha sauce. There's other versions of dinuguan that are intentionally made hot and spicy, but sriracha might add something more than just spiciness

One of the best dishes I've ever eaten. I was told as a kid not to eat it as it's unhealthy/unclean by my parents so I never tried it right away. I know it can put some people off, but I remember eating this after an exhausting week in our Boy Scout jamboree (no other food was served) and man did it taste good. Still have a craving for it to this day.

In fact there's a similar dish in province of North Sulawes called "Babi Pangi" & North Sumatera (indonesia) called "Saksang", which basically a black pork blood stew
Actually, it doesn't only exist in the Philippines. Cooking with blood has a long heritage in Europe especially in France, and certainly most countries in Europe have their own version of Blood Stew. Blood sausage or black pudding is basically pig’s blood and fat (and often onions), encased in a length of intestine, and is thought to date to ancient Greece. Our very own Dinuguan is one my British husband favourite Pinoy dish.

For me it's a choice between the Ilocano version and the Metro Suburbs version (which is a more metro version of Tagalog Dinuguan). I remember the Ilocano version which is spicier and almost dry, with the grease mixing and adhering to the blood gravy and meat. It's also light brown colored. The Metro Suburbs version is something like the one featured in the video albeit with some added garnishings not usually associated with the dish or the Tagalog version. Normally they'd use the bigger long green chilli usually used in Sinigang. Some folks from Bicol would even add "gata" or coconut milk, an ingredient prevalent in Indonesian and Thai cuisine. Since ASEAN nationalities share the basic ingredients and taste in their culinary repertoire, it does surprise me that "Pork Stew in Pork Blood" is unique to the Philippines, I mean I haven't even heard of a similar dish from Northern and Southern India which has influenced many cultures in SEA.
I guessed huge population of Indians are either not allowed to eat pork or being discouraged to eat pork. When I had a business trip in India, particularly in New Delhi, I saw several times on the roads, tall & slim pigs scavenging on the pile of garbages like stray cats & dogs. I asked then our Indian driver why is that. He said their government is allowing that to discourage the population to eat pork. And, there are a lot of Muslims in India as well despite it is a majority of Hindus... The same thing in other ASEAN countries... mostly are majority Muslim or Hindus...
@@jakedesnaque8910 I beg to disagree about ASEAN nations being mostly Muslim. There are only 3 nations so far that are majority Muslim populations: Indonesia, Brunei, West Malaysia, the rest of ASEAN are big on pork dishes and pork eating. I don't have stats to support this statement, but it's common ASEAN knowledge that only the 3 major countries I mentioned are majority Muslim population, yet they do not necessarily ban pork eating outright as their populations, except perhaps only Brunei, are hugely mixed with Chinese, Buddhists and Catholics and Christians and Hindus.
@@tuberobotto I agree.. Only 3 countries in ASEAN are Muslim-majority... But I guessed, a huge population of Muslim & Hindus comprises the ASEAN population being Indonesia having the most number in the muslim world... It is just a wild guess! 😅
That's what I have read from a World History book! And I said...Oh, it seems like similar to our Dinuguan! 👍😊
You can tell right away, these ladies will love visiting the Philippines someday 🇵🇭 if they love our food they'll probably enjoy experiencing our islands, culture and hospitality ❤

I did not know this! That's amazing! It must be so interesting to see how food has evolved in Hawaii
Wow that is interesting!

Your friends will really enjoy the Philippines since they love our food.

Totoo, pinakamasarap ko na natikman na dinuguan, Ilocano, pero meron yan vegetable version, upo (bottle gourd) sarap.
I beg to disagree. Pampanga’s version of dinuguan is waaayyy more tasty😁
We each have our opinions to taste but my favorite Dinuguan was from Cagayan De Oro. Tasted Ilocos, and almost every other city’s dinuguan but that was definitely my favorite.
Yes, the ilocano dinuguan with suka is the best.

Dinuguan like adobo also has a bunch of variations depending on the province. In our province, we cook dinuguan dried and we mix it with chicharon or kawali (whichever available), not too sour but kinda sweet and cruchy, with a touch of spice.

It's cooked so it's edible. 😮. Everyone liked and enjoyed it as they ate more. More spice more delicious. 😁 Naging pulutan na may kasamang hot sauce.
This is one of my favorite when I go back home.i order to cook this ...yummy
Bring this ladies to PH! nice,nice...Love it!
Intan is so funny in a good way. Her energy is contagious
My der Pilifino, Dinuguan is simply British Blood Sausage in deconstructed/liquid/stewed form! There are also other blood stews around the world
Blood sasauge is not blood stew i mean it can have similar ingredient but yeah its not the same
Dinuguan + lechon tapos white rice. Solid na combo.
My kids didn't grow up in the Philippines but they all love dinuguan.
Many countries in Europe, Africa, and the ME have Blood dishes. My buddy from England introduced me to blood pudding which had a texture like tofu but softer. It was good.

Chuck, teach them tagalog words like "masarap" 😊
I’ts fun just watching how they all reacted ❤
Super that's my favorite and the way I cook it's really delicious
I love the concept of this video ❤❤❤ that's why I love Philippines
There is usually at least one person that gets freaked out hearing there is blood in it before eating. I recommend letting people try the food first. Very good that they all ate it with rice (probably because they were all nervous about the blood). I would also recommend having people eat the Filipino way - with a spoon and fork. (So much easier to eat the meat and rice together with a spoon!)
Nah, its rude to feed someone something without explaining or describing what it is. Let them make the choice. You may unknowingly violate their cultural or religious beliefs. You may also trigger allergies. This is especially true with karekare since it contains peanuts.
Nakita ko din sa wakas ang videos mo sa tiktok kitang unang nakita 👌👌👏👏👏
Love to see you all learn to like our dinuguan dish now you can come to the Philippines to experience more our native dishes. Love you guys.

Thats my favorite menu. Ive always cooking dinuguan. Im happy while yuor eating.
Best diniguan from ilocos region and Cagayan valley . umami flavor crispy pork diniguan is the best
Don't worry Paola it's okay . We love you . Omg Intan 🤣🤣🤣 we love y'all guys . RESPECT🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️

I really like the Indonesian. Yung reaction kasi nya. Ang cute. 😊
Ang alam ko muslim country ang Indonesia diba bawal sa kanila ang pork?
Oo nga parang pinoy lang yung reaction 😂

In fact there's a similar dish in province of North Sulawes called "Babi Pangi" & North Sumatera (indonesia) called "Saksang", which basically a black pork blood stew
Akala ko matatakot sila nasarapan pa😄🇵🇭
This ladies are .adventurous.go girls ! You’ll diffinitely survive in the Philippines.
Delicious?? Authentic Filipino Dish. Tsalap tsalap!

I think what the guy meant, was the recipe it self. You can't find it else where, given that other European and Asian countries use blood in their cuisines, like blood sausage. 😅
I originally didn't like dinuguan because its made from blood, but when I tasted it when I was a kid (like damn its good) 😂
I'm Filipino btw
It's pretty delicious 😋 yummy 😋,,,
I really like that dish.. i always cook dinuguan.. thats my specialty.. thanks for sharing this
Chuck, PUTO is d perfect partner of Dinuguan, they loved Puto also❤😅😂

Me, a Filipina who hasn’t eaten dinuguan for months is salivating while watching this. 😢 i want to have some
Wow si ate girl na naka black fighter talaga siya talaga yung tumira sa dinuguan
I think Indians don't eat pork
The Bicol style is the best for me, it's just magical.
@@jakedesnaque8910
I beg to disagree about ASEAN nations being mostly Muslim.
