If you can’t find cheap clear label sheets, you can also put real scotch tape on freezer paper (so you can peel it off) and I use alcohol inks in the combo of… butterscotch, honey comb, and sepia. Hope that helps someone. I dab more sporadic and have many layers of those colors. It looks very real!
I need to put mine on freezer paper. I put my clear scotch tape on a page protector and it’s amazingly hard to get off when I want to use it, I also use alcohol inks in butterscotch, ginger, latte, and something else but I do like you and dab on various layers.
Oh, yes! I LOVE the vintage tape effect using regular old invisible tape. I saw a video from Jen of Eve who led me to Tanya Samuels. I just hate that I haven't thought of something cool like that - yet. But using tape and other things - I made me a bunch of vintage tape using butterscotch, caramel, and walnut alcohol inks and they turned out AMAZING. I can't wait to use them on stuff as I think they really add a pop of flavor. I never thought to use paints like Gayle is using - I would think paint would flake off, but I'll have to invest in some Golden paints (love to see people use them, but they're expensive, too) and try this one as well. I like the idea of the full, clear label sheets. I might have to invest in some of that, too, at some point.
Hi Gayle, I found something that gives you extra loading time for the faux vintage tape while applying the alcohol dye to share with your followers. Get the alcohol sanitizer that is clear. Apply it first then the color ink and you will have extra working time blending the colors. I didn’t have luck with the acrylics nor inks so went to drawing board. Hope you try. I’ve been waiting anxiously for you stories of your retreat.
Oh, Gayle, I love this vintage tape technique! I made transparent stickers in a similar fashion using 2-inch wide clear packaging tape (purchased at Lowes) which I adhered to freezer paper/wax paper sheets cut at 8.5 x 11-inch size (to fit in my printer.) I used a variety of alcohol ink combinations to attain the colors I wanted and let that dry. Next, I purchased a full png page of line-art butterfly images on Etsy and printed them out on my “sticker paper” and fussy cut them out! They have a very ethereal, transparent look I was wanting at very little cost! I love your vintage tape idea so much that I think I’ll use the same principle and make some of that, too! (p.s. I love that you have Art Journals for your grandchildren to work on at your home! What a lovely memory!)
I love the idea of printing out a digital onto the clear label paper. I think I’m going to have to buy some, you’re such an enabler. I make my old looking tape using clear tape from the dollar tree and alcohol ink.
I make cellophane tape with strips of tracing paper and distressed ink, so far I've used only vintage photo....but it looks awesome glued right onto my projects, I rip little to medium lengths...and once I too the piece, ripped it and then put it back together with a slight space between and it looks cool. Art glitter glue works great with it. I found some old articles about me in a folder of things saved from when I taught Music and they did a write up..I had used new cello back then, 1978, articles were put in with my applications for teaching positions once I moved on...now some 40 years plus the tape is yellow and I peeled it and use it sometimes too! but then I thought of this process and I like it too for when I run out.
Love it!!! Definitely something I will try! We all love watching everything and anything you create! I don’t think you need to apologize for what you choose to do on your videos. AND you are not a robot, don’t worry about not posting as much in July! We will all be here when you are back! 👍✌️❤️😊
I am definitely going to try this! Thanks so much! As I am raising my grandchildren I'm not able to travel, but your subby retreat sounds like a blast. I hope everyone has a great time and no conflicts! :)
I love the ideas you have come up with. They are so much fun and I can’t wait to try exploring with these labels and other clear labels as well. I bet label machine rolls would be kinda fun too.
This was a fun video to watch!! The cool ideas that people think up!! Apparently from comments below lots of variations too!! They look awesome on the ephemera pieces!! TFS Gayle !! Hugs, Liz:)
Cool idea and love the effects Gayle. I have been trying to get out more to enjoy some nature. I have a huge Mulberry tree the birds and squirrels love. So many different birds flying in and out from there. I also have at least one deer family every year. Mama has visited but have not seen the fawns yet. No matter how many times I see them, I am always thrilled. Enjoy your family and your retreat. Great for recharging.
This is wonderful. Decades ago, back in my scrapbooking days, I saw an advertisement in a craft magazine for faux old tape. I thought I could find it locally, since there were scrapbook shops on every corner back then, but I never found it. I have wanted faux tape like yours ever since. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can't wait to try this.
Love this idea. Thanks again for letting me know the name of the video from another video of you using your decorative tapes. Just today I just found 5 unopened packages of the Avery clear inkjet full sheets at my local Goodwill for $5 for all 5 pkgs. I will be giving it a try for sure. Your tapes turned out so beautiful and look lovely on your projects. Thanks again.
I have been using white sticker paper, so I'm really glad to see that there is a transparent one now!! Not sure if you ever use a gelli plate, but they are perfect for making your own washi tape you can Stamp on it, stencil on it, etc...
Fun technique...TYFS!! ❤🤗 Beautiful tags...I especially like the one w/ the delicate die cut(from Cori)!! LOVE your story of the baby robin being fed by its mom...I've enjoyed the same here w/ starlings, sparrows & wrens!! 💕🐦
Good morning Gayle!! Love this idea, so many fun strips to play with. All the tags turned out so pretty. I can relate to being sore!! After cleaning from top to bottom and removing non-essential items from the 5th wheel, my back, hips and hands hurt!! 🤣 Sitting with a heating pad on my back, trying to figure out how I'm going to do laundry and bathe Angel today. Thanks for sharing this with us and have an awesome day...💜
Good morning sweetie! We are having a beautiful sunny day after a full day of rain. Will be working in the yard! My ch needed work. Thanks for sharing your lovely work! Blessings dear!💕
Pretty cool! Love it! I'm wondering if you can use an empty tape dispenser edge (or edge of packaging tape), instead of cutting pieces, to get the jagged tape edge look? 🤔
Oh Gayle that would be fun to make labels with. Either stamp them or print digital labels. Thanks for always inspiring us to try new things. Ugh can’t wait!!!!! Sending hugs, Veronica 💜💜💜. Ps hi carol!!!
Gayle, I have also tried to work directly onto the label paper. If you try to make more than one layer or go over the artwork, it seems to peel/rub off. I have started doing my artwork onto regular paper then I copy the image onto the label paper. I have started using mostly my own washi now because I can cut them to whatever size I want and whatever theme I want. After I print onto the label I use my gold ink/paint and drop splotches. I love the results. Keep on smiling.
These tags are beautiful Gayle! I especially love the one with the die cut from Cori! Wish I was on your retreat list lol, however will love to hear who’s coming! What a roomful of creativity you will have.🥰🇨🇦
Hi Gayle I semi took the plunge today, using the four colors of golden acrylics that I had on hand. Didn't quite come up with the good tape color but I got some good stamping backgrounds. Of course I have ordered the colors you suggested on Amazon coming in a couple days so then I'll give it another go
I would take those small cut offs from the paper edges and add faux stitching to use on my ephemera. Just a thought…take good care and have a blessed day! Hugs, Chris Locke
This is a great idea. I’ve made my own imitation washi using napkins and double sided tape (that has paper on both sides). I enjoyed doing that. And now I can’t think who had the video I watched on the technique.
Good Evening Gayle! I’ve printed labels, tags numbers onto the clear sticker paper. Also I stamped with permanent ink on the sticker paper too. Your painted sheets would look great with words/numbers etc. TYFS and have a great evening. 👍🌼🌼🌼
I've been making my first journal & it is so fun. The cover is giving me fits - somewhat intimidating & you have to do each part in order. I love picking the pages and making the signatures. .. When I get this one done I will try another one. No idea what I will do with them all - which is kinda the dilemma of any craft, I produce more than I can use. 😄

I think maybe it’s because I came into junk journaling by way of mixed media art… somehow making the cover feels like making the finished art pieces I was used to, just in a different medium. I’m sure yours will turn out great, and you’ll get better and better with practice 💕
Gayle, I forgot to mention, I have a red headed tiny robin that visits me every morning and is getting tamer every day. If birds make you smile 😊 why not in the future do another bird journal? Especially if you can get pictures from your own yard of all the different birds?
