I'm going to say something strange and maybe controversiaI: I'm glad that the back is made of plastic instead of glass. Not only do I prefer the feel of plastic over glass (only for the back, plastic displays are terrible), it's also less fragile. I don't want to slap a case on it and I hate glass, it's slippery and it cracks when damaged. This plastic back though? It won't shatter. It's actually super flexible, you can easily take it off too, which will probably be awesome for reparability. That and the slightly smaller size is a huge win for the 7a in my book.
Totally agree. I have the 6A and it feels amazing in the hand. You don't even notice the seams around the visor if you're not very nit picky. In no way does the build feel cheap. In fact it feels equally premium and even more light weight. I don't know why more companies don't incorporate higher quality polymers instead of glass!
A new Pixel 7a owner here coming from Samsung. This phone is awesome and the specs are top notch for its pricetag. The Google ecosystem is very good also, and the camera is fantastic with many smart features built in. Very happy for this purchase.
True, but I think the way Google implements the idea of releasing the A-series after the Flagship devices (with the same processor) is to 'excite' mid-ranger enthusiasts. Plus it is a way for Google to use up any remaining Tensor chips while they implement the next generation chip upon release for the new flagship later in the year. So in my eyes it's a good all around marketing strategy.
I do like the slightly smaller screen of the 7a. The 7 was just a little too big in my hands so the smaller size is nice. The ideal size is 6 inch screen though like the pixel 5.
Camera looks amazing! Only reviewers care about wireless charging. HRR varies from person to person, but it's not a big feature for me personally. I've had 3 different 120Hz devices (2 phones, 1 tablet and another 90Hz tablet) and I only notice it when I intentially do something to make it noticeable like scrolling super fast in an unnatural manner. Any other time it feels like it offers absolutely nothing to the user experience IMO.
I love that you mentioned that you’re more likely to use a Telephoto to an Ultrawide. That is especially true with, I barely ever use my Ultrawide but always use my Telephoto to catch things farther away and for better Portrait mode.
At $500 for the 7a, the Pixel 7 is a better buy, but surely in 3-4 months when it will be around $350, there the 7a will be a very good deal if not the best in North America and Europe, but not necessarily elsewhere with competitors like the Poco F5 / F5 Pro, OnePlus 11r or Motorola X40 which in many markets costs $500. Personally, I would never put $500 into this Pixel 7a, I'd rather buy an S21 Plus / Ultra or a OnePlus 10 Pro. Ps: on the other hand, the increase in the price of the Pixel 7a does not announce anything good regarding the price of the upcoming Pixels 8 / 8 Pro.
Igot my 7a Tuesday and I really like it a lot. I haven't had the chance to use the camera yet but I'm sure it will be great. The build quality is fantastic. I managed to get the Coral version, the free Pixel buds A series and the free case. Mine doesn't have that raised display though, it's flat with no raised edge.
I have a pixel 7 and I think it's a really good phone. It's actually one of the best phones I've ever owned and I think the a series is okay as well I used to have one of those. I had an A4 series phone back in the day
@@dragon2knight yep, I agree. Choices are great to have and I also agree. Yeah just wait in the pixel 7. They will also go on sale but I have to confess. I bought the pixel 7 pro on sale for $599 at Best buy a couple months ago.
I love Pixel devices, BUT I record for my own YT channel with my phone and the Pixel isn't the best in video recording in comparison with the incredible photo capabilities - even on the Pixel 7 Pro. So, I am constantly jumping back to my iPhone 12 Pro for video.
Man, looking for Pixel products in Portugal is basically impossible, its ridiculous... I wanted to make the jump to the 7 or 7a but there's no way if you live in Portugal, how would warranty even work of there's only sketchy 3rd party resellers. Then you dont get exclusive offers from the Google Pixel Store 😒
if the screen protector is not applied, do the gestures from screen edge feels sharp? or is it smooth enough? This is one of the thing not so good on box-y designed phones.
@@BadrKhiyat yeah, that's fine. Though I'm talking about how it feels swiping from an edge you know. Like phones with rounded edges feel smooth while swiping from an edge.

hmm.. it's only now.. that i switch from a pixel 3a to the 7a. Will cost me 380 euro for the phone and from then on i am stuck for a 2 year contract of 11 euro's a month. That's a sweet deal or not? Not strange at all friend I much prefer plastic back over glass any day. Plus like you said usually repairability is usually more prominent.
I miss the polycarbonate backs of Nokia Lumias. They were really durable. A unibody plastic of high quality really outshines metal and glass

Maybe that's what they were released months apart

There's a setting to increase the touch sensitivity on Pixels in case you're applying a screen protector.
