Here is a test you can do, place two large neodinim magnets either side of the meter to see if it slows down the reading. The other trick is to induce a capacitively coupled oscillator to the line and feed different low frequency signals ( between 40-200 Hz ) and see if the speed is affected.
Aaaah, I saw the thumbnail image and was worried that you had popped that L&G CL 27.2 meter. Thankfully, it isn't, but..... Look at it Glowiiiiiiiin' in there! That current coil got a bit roasty! The bonus with this video was the transparent front-case. Even with all that roasty bouquet circulating around in there, the glow-up could still be seen, beaming out like an orange light house in thick fog! :D Thanxx for showing, -Wayne's Electrical. _8th January 2017, 04.07_
I felt initially bad as a collector of electricity meters but ? in the name of science, these experiments need to be done sometimes. I could have left this meter in the skip, but why not have some fun with it. Release the magic smoke. Well I burnt up my connection cables too.
Well, it works with smoke like all electric and electronic stuff. If the smoke comes out, it stops working. Greetings from Hungary, where this gauge was made. :)
At the moment it is very windy and proper summer heat hasn't settled in yet. Day tempeartues vary between 18 and 24°C (64 - 75°F). Wasp workers are gathering materials and hopefully supply the Wasp Queen with enough food for propagating eggs.
Here in Stockholm we had -18°C, 2 days ago and -6 now, haha. But I like much more when it is like this and some snow, than the just above zero temperatures and rain that we often have during the winter. Nice overload. Maybe an idea to do it outside next time, or at least open the garage door fully. I can think that smoke was not very nice to breath, LOL!!
In theory, yes ! But it is more likely that the wiring will burn up, or an isolator switch fails, before the meter goes up in smoke. When I worked in the metering I have replaced burnt out 10(20) Amp meters from the 1950's still in service in the 1990's when the supplies was upgraded to 63 or 80 Amps but the meter not. Often the dial nameplate showed a yellow varnish tan as indication that something has been very hot inside the meter. I have a fried Ferranti FDb meter somewhere in the archives which i kept. (some photo's are on Flickr)
So ... that when the amps meter suddenly dropped all amps, the meter it sat on had died ? Why did you put your hand on the amps meter at that time ? It makes it look like you hit an emergency button instead of a pop.

I could smell that from here. Burning varnish and phenolic resin, thanks for the memory! I need a cup of tea now, to wash the bad taste away.
The smell is very bad. I had to get outside as I smoked out the garage with phenolic toxic fumes.

well you still can't get replacement smoke at Radio shack.
George W hmmm... I’ll have to look at Walmart.
Greetings from Hungary!
Nice video.
Én is!👋 😀
That was fun, filling the meter housing with smoke to the point where it was completely unreadable.
Pretty impressive how long it holds up while subjected to current an order of magnitude higher than its peak rating.

these experiments need to be done sometimes.

Anyone else here from photonicinduction?
Nice vid, just wondering though 800A at how many volts? and how have you got such a powerful AC supply?
Good thing you had the safety cover on that!
Will be interesting to see your analysis results, love the smoke ingression in the case before the failure. Epic meltdown!
The best smoke machines are single use, amirite?
I thought your wiring was going to give out first - very durable meter considering 10 times the current was pushed through it!
Yes 35 mil² wasn't enough for the duration.
While the paper wasp nest is small, it it worth placing a coil of wire around it to induce magnetic fields and warmth for them?

It has settled in here now today was around 38.C Nice glowing meter, and it bet it did stink like shit.

I kept the garage door low to get rid of the glare on the meter.
wait, is the rotor magnetically levitating? and if yes-is it only one side levitation?
Really use full.but what happens in case of digital energy meter
I could smell that from Melbourne
What was smoking down below, underneath the meter? (out of the camera view)
That were the 35 mil² power cables.
Is there anyway that could happen with the meter in service with fuses bypassed?
In theory, yes ! But it is more likely that the wiring will burn up, or an isolator switch fails, before the meter goes up in smoke.

Nice smoker. Can you over load a smart meter sometime?
Will do when I get hold of one.
I spun my meter like that once and it blew the ass right out of it then poped the service fuse fun times with the magic smoke...
What was that producing so much smoke? The motor?
The plastic insulation of the copper current coil.
Where is the follow up video? Can you reply with a link please. It isn't in suggested videos on the right because RUclips is stupid.
You popped it!
Very cool
What are you using for an 800 amp load?
A 1500 Amp CT test transformator.
How do you set up this experiment?
So ... that when the amps meter suddenly dropped all amps, the meter it sat on had died ? Why did you put your hand on the amps meter at that time ? It makes it look like you hit an emergency button instead of a pop.
eau de current coil by laboratory rodalco
How did you feed 800 amps to the meter? What was the source?
Source is a Low Voltage High current supply rated at 1600 Amps for testing CT's.
Hmm, too bad you couldn't of trapped a few wasps inside the enclosure then energized... See how well they like Ganz meter smoke.
REWYRED couldn't have
Slade McThornbody That is how we say it and spell it here.
All smoke and mirrors. Lol. Mostly just smoke! Cool video. I'm surprised the old girl lasted that long under that much stress!
It surprised me too, the current coil had melted open circuit, processing the video data now.
Ended it in Smoke
Nice!
i felt bad for that meter
love it!!! try with an itron Sentinel or centron
I need to get one.
My disc meter makes that buzzing grinding noise all the time its very disturbing
It will most likely run slow, as the disc is rubbing against the magnet or current coil. Just leave it.

@@beazely94 Ok, fair enough, the type of noise is very annoying especially when you can hear it at night.

HAHAHA!!.If you electric bill ever gets this high, when the bill comes to your house, just sign over the deed and your bill is paid!!.
My oh my, why a Ganz?
Oh well, i'm not even mad. It's amazing. :) Talk about durability, eh.
Good quality meter.
Thumbs up :)
The power bill will be aggressive
Glowiiiiiiin
Meter analyses video will be up soon.
HEY!!! That's my word! :D
But you're right though, it was properly Glowiiiiiiin' in there.

I will do an open meter video too, Need to salvage them from the skip. Don't want to destroy a good one.
