  • Felt like posting some random Evil Bumblebee gameplay. In this video I explore some of the Sub-Missions in 2.0 D2. -------------------------
    The PickupTruck Drones are using the Drone Inversion Mod textures from Barricade24's. Used with permission. I wanted these versions of PickupTruck to only appear in D2 because of that one midtro they show up in.
    I also had some misc texture mods enabled when recording this video, which included a edited Frontend planet (Made to look like Cybertron) and a modded save icon. (Made it for 2.0 but decided I didn't like it in it's current form so it's not going to be included in the mod.)

    Disclaimer: This game has always been finicky on different computers, so with a mod that pushes the game as much as this, there's bound to be some issues that happen for some and not others. If anyone experiences any issue of any kind, check the KnownIssues.txt file in Documents, and then let me know about it so I can make note of it for future updates.

      It would indeed. It's uncanny how the idea for a red evil clone of Bumblebee somehow existed years before AoE came out.

    I am very excited to see this mod! I've always thought that this game didn't have enough playable content in the final game (even back at my childhood lol), so I think that I'd be right happy to experience 2.0, which seems like something greater to me than just a mod! A remaster maybe? By the way, did you manage to make controllable special abilities like I asked you before?

      I'm afraid Controllable Special Abilities aren't going to be a default part of this mod, for a couple reasons.
      While Some Special Abilities could be added, others can't be without overwriting a lot of data. (like Bumblebees Special Sonic Boom or Ironhides Special ShootLikeAMadMan) I'd rather avoid only having some Specials and not all of them playable.
      Second, I think they're too OP, and also usually a bit buggy when controlled by the player.
      When I have time I'll try to add an extra mod to enable them though, making them an optional mod. But that won't be something available at release for now. (The Extra Mods folder needed to be totally redone to work with the current mod files, and that couldn't really be done until the mod was finished, so I put off a lot of Extras work until after release)

      ​@@DigitalArctic About being a separate mod: that's actually what I wanted, because they indeed shouldn't be there unless you want to have fun. Yes, they are OP, but that's why players want them, don't they? :)
      And I'm glad to hear that you succeeded at least at some of them, and I don't think that sonic boom and ironhide's abilities are that interesting. I once made a mod which adds a kinda "controllable" towtruck's special ability, I just replaced an animation which occurs when you try to pick up an item but there's nothing there, that's why it's kinda controllable by pressing Q.
      I got another idea by the way. People've been thinking hard over unbreakable CPU shields, do you think that they are releasable?

      @@Pybro- Well, the unbreakable AI shields have been mostly removed for 2.0 already, since they weren't there in prototype builds and they only serve to handicap the players ranged weapons. Actually I think combat in general flows way better with ranged weapons that work on everyone.

      Actually from what I understand, he was created as a placeholder enemy before the team got more movie designs and before drone designs were created. (The whole game was basically built around Bumblebee in the first couple of months of development, it's why he has way more unused animations than everyone else. It's also why he has unused data in almost every level, because he was the default loaded character for every level too.)

      @@DigitalArctic so basically if everything was proper complete Evil Bumblebee would show up in every level? Even the decepticon levels by default? Or is it only for the Autobot campaign?

      @@masterofsaiyans1072 Only for the earliest functioning builds of this game yeah. Though it's likely with that origin in mind, he was never intended to appear in the final game to any extent. He was just a temporary solution to a temporary problem. (That was: The lack of character designs. Once they got the designs for the drones and the rest of the movie cast, he would have no longer been necessary since he was just a placeholder enemy.)
      But yeah, if you were to add him in every instance he would've been used, it probably would be every level as every enemy.
      I'm still using him for 2.0 since he's such a major unused "character". (Really you could add him in any level and it would fit)

      @@DigitalArctic especially you could make up a story about how megatron (when was on cybertron) could've created a clone of bumblebee, but rather silent more violent, faster, stronger and deadly.
      Also he would've been a constant reminder that Evil bumblebee mindful to keep an eye on since he runs away before you can defeat him.

    You use Brawl to make the gameplay of Nega Bee, because the transformations steps and weapons sounds so similar and the camera it's for for Brawl's sizes

      Yep, that's correct. Brawl is the most stable Character Type to use for loading a unused character like Evil Bumblebee.

    Hey i downloaded the mod and ı loved it and I want to play as evil Bumblebee but I dont know how to do it can somebody help me ?

      To play as Evil Bumblebee, you have to complete all 4 main chapters of either SOCCENT Military Base or The Hunt for Sam Witwicky. After completing all 4 chapters, you will unlock character select in those levels, and Evil Bumblebee is one of the choices for them. (Character select will be marked with a unique faction icon on the mini map)

    Alright, that's interesting. This guy looks awesome,but what about his speed? Why is he so fast?

      To load unused characters like Evil Bumblebee, another character type must be used for it to work without crashing. The best character type to use for Evil Bumblebee is Brawl, any other character produces some odd visual bugs in Robot mode.
      While Evil Bumblebee has a lot of traits and abilities unique to him, some fragments of the original character type still remain, and running speed is one of them. I could make his core speed slower, but I feel it fits with the overclocked nature of Evil Bumblebee.

      At the moment, he's a bonus character selectable for Hubs and Submissions in some Decepticon levels.

      No. It's an unused version of Bumblebee leftover in the game files.
      While fan theories were rampant back then, I know why he exists now. He was created as a placeholder enemy near the start of development. Bumblebee was the first movie design the dev team was given, and therefore he was the first character made. They made an "Evil" Bumblebee to test basic game mechanics and such before other robots were added to the game. He was never meant to be in the final game for anything, which honestly makes it surprising he's still leftover.

      It really depends on which character, as there are some special cases.
      Generally everything you want can be found in the attribs.cfgs in DEFAULT_CHARS, HP is called Energy and there are multiple speed settings you can edit in there.

      He was created to be a test enemy early in development before other enemies were created. (Bumblebee was the first character created for the game, so they tested a lot of early mechanics using only him)
      The fact that something from such early development was leftover is surprising, given how most other things from that era of the games development no longer exist.
      Story wise, he doesn't really have a story other than just being a mysterious enemy who appears, so you can pretty much believe whatever you want to believe about him.

    Why evil bumblebee for some reason has 2x the speed compared to the others even jazz who supposed to be the fastest

      Jazz is one of the slower characters in robot mode, it's vehicle mode where his speed shines through in this game.
      Evil Bumblebee is fast in Robot Mode, but fairly slow in Vehicle mode, acceleration is abysmal.
      So Jazz is still the fastest Ground Character if we go by Vehicle mode alone.

      @@DigitalArctic have you ever thought about tinkering with the vehicle speeds of the characters in this game? for the ground characters at least, 07 bumblebee should be the fastest. but I can get why they made it Jazz instead because he would’ve been redundant if he wasn’t better at something mechanically

      @@matrixofleadership I have. Sadly it seems to be something hardcoded into each character type and can't be changed easily, which is funny cause you can change literally everything else about a character usually.

      Indeed, sadly it's a necessary compromise I made for everything to work properly and Evil Bee could exist in game without directly overwriting anyone.

    It's just lazy model swap its brawl but use bumblebee model

      Nah I wouldn't sell this that short. It's not just a model swap, it's more like a partial creature swap. (Plain Model swaps are done elsewhere quite often in the 2.0 mod, but it would gloss over too many changes to call this Evil Bee mod one of them) This mod was made within the limitations of the game engine so that both Brawl and Evil Bee could coexist in one game without having to swap files manually between levels like in the Alternative Mod. While Brawls attributes couldn't be replaced in favor of Evil Bee's because of that, I still put a lot of time in during development to give Evil Bee unique stuff that neither Brawl nor the normal bee had so that he *wasn't* just a model swap. (Which I'm going to go over in too many paragraphs below, because I can't help myself. Reader Beware.)
      Evil Bee uses a unique set of unused Bumblebee animations which didn't exist on the PC version previously, that were extracted from the PS2 version. (I was datamining all versions of the game during the mods development, each version had unique unused content. I did my best to port as much of it as possible to the PC version for the 2.0 Mod.) This alternate animation set affects every animation from running, to standing, to fighting. Evil Bee and Brawl also don't share animation abilities, so Evil Bee has a different set of "advanced combos" (that are different from normal 2.0 bee) while Brawl doesn't have advanced combos at all. This causes Evil Bee to have a much more potential in melee combat than Brawl does. (Brawl also has a much slower "knocked down" animation than Evil Bee does, so that means Evil Bee gets up far faster in combat than Brawl does, which also boosts Evil Bee's combat potential.) Evil Bee also has a climbing melee attack that Brawl does not have at all.
      Getting the "new" animations from PS2 to work was more than just animation swaps too, as they had no data on PC whatsoever. This meant that all vfx, sfx and poi's (points of impact on the body that interact with the environment and other characters) had to be manually added and tinkered with to ensure that things like footprints happened when the feet touch the ground, streaks follow the appropriate arms and legs during combos, and ensuring that animations deal damage at the appropriate points of time in the animation. (So you wouldn't get nonsense like Evil Bee hurting enemies with his feet while punching) Essentially the entire animation set was redone to accommodate the new animations.
      There were also minor Texture edits done to Evil Bee to remove Autobot logos and change the lights on the model from Blue to Red. (They were done because Evil Bee was going to be a Decepticon enemy in the mod, so I didn't want him having leftovers from the og Bee model. The reason the original Evil Bee model was like that is because it was just a placeholder enemy model near the start of the games development, so the game devs didn't bother changing such details on the body.) These texture edits were also hex edited into the game to ensure they loaded without external programs like Texmod.
      Where the compromises come in are attributes: movement speed, vehicle physics, vehicle sfx and ranged weapons. The 2.0 Mod can't change attributes in this context, because unlike models, textures and animation abilities, it is physically impossible to load more than one set of attributes while the game is running. This presents a choice, prioritize giving either Evil Bee or Brawl the correct attributes, and I chose Brawl since he's in more levels.
      This will never change for 2.0, as there is no way around this engine limitation currently. I would love to give Evil Bee and Brawl separate attribs for the base mod so they're completely separate from each other internally, but it's just not possible. I did my best within the games limitations to make the two distinct in other ways. (This is one of those things where I was planning on making an Extra Mod for 2.0 that prioritizes Evil Bee over Brawl, for those who don't care about Brawl and want Evil Bee to have his proper attributes. However I can't make it now that my PC is dead.)
      If you read all that, I salute you. If not, that's fine, but either way I hope you can appreciate that there was more done here than just swapping existing models around.
