I remember when Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" first aired. I was 11, it aired Sundays on PBS, and there was nothing like it. Nothing. Computer animation. Science. An awesome personality with Dr. Sagan. And wrapping it all up was the music of Vangelis. It was mind-blowing, and every episode was ground-breaking. There was one episode where Dr Sagan imagined what living on a world circling a star in a globular cluster would be like. Instead of a sunrise, the entire Milky Way galaxy would rise, a billion billion stars rising as one. On the screen was a real beautiful beach at night, and a gentle, lapping ocean; and somehow they superimposed a spiral galaxy, slowly rising from the ocean. And the theme music was Vangelis' "Heaven and Hell". I will never forget that. To this day, it is one of the most beautiful moments I've ever experienced, in no small part because of Vangelis. Cosmos introduced a life-long love of Vangelis' incredible, timeless music.
Thank you for that genuinely enjoyable anecdote. I've always loved his Blade Runner soundtack, it would appear there's a lot from him to explore. All of his music has this ethereal, dreamlike atmosphere to it that I've never heard replicated (no pun intended) by any other composer.
