Yeah i hate the whole TV series reboot feel they did with her in 2013. And besides whats up with TV dramas having to throw sploosh of dirt on peoples faces. I know you can get some sweat and stuff on your face but jeezuz christ thats overdoing it. Being in the wild doesnt mean you drop basic hygiene. Even LOST TV series was subtle on what being in the wild was about
But i think Underworld was the last good fun Tomb Raider game. I do hope they return to that rather than the sad dad dramas or whatever people now consider GAMES.
i saw most of those commercials when i was a kid, not the real early one's from 1996. but when i got around 5 or 6 in 1997, that's when saw one. the Angel of Darkness one, i remember those more than the others,
the Last Revelation i remember that one, she was known for appearing in car commercials, but we didn't get those here.
I remember she was so popular that even people who didn't play videogames knew who she was

It's really hard to describe to young people these days just how much of a big deal lara Croft was back in the day, she literally transcended video games, and everyone on earth knew who she was. A celebrity in her own right

Lara Croft was the face of video gaming at her leak. Back then Crash was sort of a semi-icon of the playstation 1 age too. And of course Sonic and Mario was massive. These days though, it seems the only video game icons people jump to when they think of video games is Mario.

This is what modern Tomb Raider is missing. The cheek, the style, the self awareness and ability to have fun. Classic Lara was at her best when she played into all of her defining traits. She's beautiful and sexy, she's classy, she's a socialite and she's a badass who can take whatever she wants whenever she wants. It all came together to make a character who felt larger than life but also down to earth in a way.
Tomb Raider now seems so intent on subverting everything that she stood for and turning her into literally just some woman. She's more vulnerable, she's more emotionally frail, she's designed intentionally to look more average and realistic and her sassy attitude has been scrubbed away to be replaced with...I don't even know, a goody two-shoes nerdiness?
The modern tomb raider is about Lara becoming the tomb raider we all know and love from the classics

Usually, female characters are ruined by writing Generic Girlboss #354478454, but Lara... kind of is like that. Not entirely, but enough that it isn't subversive enough for Woke. So she's just sexless and boring now.

@@macshild the old Lara raided Tombs out of personal desire and because of her rebellious attitude. The new Lara raided them because she is the result of a broken survivor and had her awakening enforced on her. They are two different characters, and I liked the old one better.
when you realize gaming was so different back then, how one video game character managed to crossover into pop culture territory, is nothing short of amazing.
Mario and Sonic were already popular, but gaming as a whole was mainly seen as a kids things and late teens past time. so when Lara hit the scene, she just blew up everywhere.
i know the media today acts weird about sex appeal, but imagine if those commercials were new today, the media might kick up a fuss, but there's no doubt in my mind,
