      "Its hard to win a argument with a smart person, its impossible to win an argument with a stupid person. " Interesting to entertain that observation against being hypnotizable or not. The quote is from Bill Murray. Smarter people might not be so knee jerk paranoid and defensive as that can be thought of as on a sliding scale and not binary. Consider the mind being distracted and impulsive for less than preferable reasons. Reminds me of a response Christopher Hitchens had to the question, "do we have Free Will?" His reply, "... we have no choice." Ruminate on that a minute.

      While it may be a slight stretch to say “smart people are more easily hypnotised”, it’s scientifically proven via MRI, case studies, and the definition of hypnosis that people who can focus better, i.e. better connection between the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, are more easily hypnotised.
      Besides focus, visual thinking skills, empathy, and imagination also helps the process of being hypnotised. All are often correlated with intelligence.

  • @kingsteele6760
    @kingsteele6760 7 лет назад +402

    He is saying "only intelligent people can be hypnotized" to make you more inclined to want to fall for the hypnosis, because to fail at it you're basically saying you're not intelligent, and most people don't want to admit that, or think they're unintelligent. It is actually quite a clever little trick.

    • @Tabascosause
      @Tabascosause 6 лет назад +5

      That's actually wrong, magicians have been known to use tricks like this that involve muscles in your body. What you're doing is once you close your eyes tighter and relax your eye muscles they want to stay relaxed and when he snaps his fingers you use more of your muscles. Same as if you stand in a door way with your hands to your side and raise them until your hands hit the door frame hold it for 20 to 30 seconds and then move from the door frame, WOW your hands magic float up. It's use many ways on parts of your body. Another one is if you ask someone to lift a glass of water, they do it then set it down. Then you place your hand over theirs and ask them to raise their hand while you keep it in place. Now while doing this you talk to them, say some bs w.e you want then you ask them to pick the glass back up and that it will be heavier and it will be. Because your arm is tired. Makes it very easy if arm is extended.

      I wanna tell that he is not tricking u by telling u can be hypnotised if u r smart .........
      it's just that smart people understand and can imagine the scenario very perfectly compared to dumb people .........
      it's like showing a sad movie to a mentally handicap person ....he can't understand what's going on becoz he is dumb
      and if u show the same movie to the person who is mentally healthy he feels it ,he understands it ......
      thus , like this the old man in the video says it's easy to hypnotise a smart person ......

    It's more about 'willingness' to be hypnotized than intelligence. Not all smart people are willing to be hypnotized, depending on how they perceive being hypnotized. That being said you do require a minimum intelligence to understand what is being said. Maybe 'really' smart people are willing to be hypnotized. They don't equate that to being gullible .

    • @Kearyjb
      @Kearyjb 5 лет назад +5

      Merman Atlantis well said. If you can utilize this method to quit smoking or lose weight which a lot of intelligent people struggle to do all of their lives, that's better than if you can't. The inability to utilize a particular tool is not proof of intelligence.

    I did it and I get how it works. When he was saying to try and open my eyes I couldn’t because my mind kept going back to that image of myself having my eyes closed. I was basically imagining what that feeling of having my eyes closed would look like if I saw myself. So it goes back to the fact that ur mind can’t process two things at once. So when he was saying try and open ur eyes I heard him but I kept imagining my eyes were shut so I couldn’t open em. And we all know if u feel something or do something it’s very easy to imagine urself doing it. Very interesting.

    "The more intelligent the person the more they are susceptible to hypnotism." Evidence please. I am not aware of any peer reviewed scientific study that would support this. But it is convenient to say that in a video where you would like people to be susceptible to hypnotism. Not without irony, that is what we call "leading the subject."

    • @arkaiushs1361
      @arkaiushs1361 6 лет назад +74

      Did you even watch the beginning? It makes logical sense. Deep in thought = state of trance = hypnosis. Those who don't think deeply or daydream, probably wont be hypnotized in general. Therefore, in general deep thinking people are easier to hypnotize.

      Crying at movies is called immersion, not that it would matter what it's called. I have some severe issues with that video due to what I feel are inconsistency and handwaving. At the same time, I don't really see what use they get from convincing anyone. So, why do you care?

    • @BradTrimas
      @BradTrimas 6 лет назад +19

      They all say that...it's the most common entry of any "Hypnotist". Think of it this way, we all want to believe we are smart. So when it comes to opening our eyes we just don't do it, but if someone pinched you while your eyes were shut, they would open.

    • @hanoonakh

    • @SwagmasterG

    • @femkevandewalle2189
      @femkevandewalle2189 8 лет назад +7

      I am gifted with intelligence, and here's my experience with hypnosis so far:
      (keep in mind that I have not watched this video yet.)
      When I want to, I can get hypnotized with little to no effort at all. I know the benefits it can give.
      When I want to resist, I can. I can easily resist hypnosis if I want to. But most of the time, I conciously choose not to, since, when you listen to a hypnotist, most of the time your goal is to get in a trance.
      Some people tell you that you won't remember a thing right before they wake you up. However, this trick has never worked on me and I always remember who I am, what I was doing, and so on.
      In some cases, they tell you the exact opposite: that you will remember every last bit of it. Strangely enough this trick does work.
      Most of the times, when hypnotized, I will instinctively follow commands when told to. However, say, if I need to stay quiet, and I get commanded to say something out loud, I will wisper. This still happens on instinct...

    • @femkevandewalle2189
      @femkevandewalle2189 8 лет назад +6

      +optimistically Sara I think that's the perfect explanation. When you're more intelligent, you hold better control over your brain. So if you choose to let the trance happen... Your brain will follow your command.

      Well ,technically , people are hypnotized because they WANT to be , and that is why it works . Its a bit different then those who arent easily controlled by media ,politics and adverting . I found that being subseptable to hypnosis has mostly to do with getting in touch with your subconcious and someone trying to guide you willingly towards positive thinking patterns . Its just convincing yourself to look past your concious thought . Some people dont think it works on them because they just felt too stressed out or hyper that day . Its really just someone helping you find your center and helping you realize your true will .

    Hypnotism is all about opening yourself up to suggestion, if you go into it with a negative attitude of course it's not going to work. it requires a lot of focus. just because it didnt work for you doesnt mean that it isnt a real thing. stop being immature and blurting out curse words because you have no focus or imagination

      +Thomas Edmonds that's also a good point, thank you for writting that.
      i thought the same.
      well, i am really unsure about that, what i should be believe, i am a open minded guy but i am really unsure and so i think it will never happen if i don't think, yes, it will works :)
      just try hard is not enough, if deep inside of the brain is a clear statement of, no, that "we" will not happen :)
      hm, i don't anyone have to fix that, that is a human right, to have an opinion or just not stick to one side .

    I believe he is only "Suggesting" that SMART people my be hypnotized, only to make you WANT to be hypnotized. Since no one wants to be considered an idiot, the suggestion he makes, makes you want to play along. You cannot be hypnotized unless you sincerely want to be. He is using this suggestion, so that your conscious mind, drops it's ego and guard, therefore rendering you more susceptible to the hypnosis. Someone who is paranoid and skeptical, will not be so easily fooled. So relax people, if this did not work on you it does not mean you are stupid. You are simply skeptical and guarded.

    I could not open my eyes to save my Life and as far I am concerned my Mind is impenetrable. This Man just gave us knowledge as to how the Mind works. Imagination and Pretending allows the Mind to in a way double down on the faculty of power. This was incredibly helpful to experience. Conscious Action and Subconscious Imagination override the first initiative of action. When he said "imagine your eyes shut, locked shut and then try to open them while Imagining then being shut I quickly knew that the Mind is a parliament of Minds. This seriously is extraordinary.

      The best way to think about hypnosis (In my opinion) is to think of it like the placebo effect, you're given a pill that you're told can aid your cold or something similar, and so you take the pill believing that it works, when really it does nothing, so you end up convincing yourself that it's working and you actually start feeling better even though the pill did nothing, this is because you convinced yourself that it does.
      It sort of the works the same way with hypnosis, you can only be hypnotized if you want to be hypnotized, by convincing yourself that your eyes are locked shut, you will find difficulty in opening your eyes. But while in a mindset that it wont work, the hypnosis will have no effect on you.
      This man isn't telling you that you're stupid because you're not being hypnotized, it's just a fact that intelligent people find it easier to be hypnotized, not because they're weak minded but because they're more open minded, this means that they're more open to new ideas or suggestions, the suggestion being that you cannot open your eyes.

      It worked for me too. Freaky, like you I was like "whatever", but I could not open my eyes until he snapped his fingers and I tried the whole time he asked us to try to open them. Smart or not smart, doesn't really matters, what does matter is maybe there is help out there for me to loss weight and keep it off. I have never thought of myself as a smart person, I was average in school. No straight A student for sure. When I opened my eyes I felt good. Not scared like I thought I would be. I am a control freak my family and friends tell me that all the time, so for me to be able to be hypnotized didn't bother me as I thought it would, so if you were not able to be hypnotized wait a few weeks and try it again, maybe you have a lot going on and you could not soak in what was going on when he talked to you and if that still doesn't work for you well it's just how GOD made you and it is no big deal. Everyone is smart in some form or another, and don't let anyone tell you different. I've been know to be a smartass meaning of times and I m proud of it. LOL JK

    I find it so hard to be hypnotised as there's always something that's uncomfortable being asked of me.
    For example in this video he says "close your eyes, now close them a little tighter" and I'm sorry but squeezing my eyelids shut harder then usual for over a minute is like holding my breath.
    There's no way I can focus on anything he says when I'm in such a state of discomfort.
    Same with meditation videos when they ask you to "breathe through your stomach" the fuck? My lungs are in my chest, the thought of air entering my abdomen makes me so uncomfortable.

    • @roanbuma
      @roanbuma 6 лет назад +1

      Chris breathing through your stomach is normal in a state of rest. Breathing through your chest happens when the body is stressed out. There is no air entering your belly, it’s just your lungs pushing your organs down a little because your breathe. Closing your eyes tighter is just done to show that when you focus on closing the eyes while trying to open them, you focus more on closing them so you don’t actually open them.

    I've got PTSD . I also have tried mdma. DMT, amphetamine, weed and it's the only thing that helped was amphetamine. That's because the drugs Im on from the doctor flatten my mood. I'm on Aripripizole, Venlavaxine, Zopiclone, and Pregablin. I'm flat constantly so tried alternatives. I found DMT was exactly the same as a psychotic breakdown. I went to realms etc. I go there when I don't take my tablets. Mdma was quite good. I felt really happy and at ease. but found my body vibrated like horribly down my spine. The sensation wasn't nice . I then tried amphetamine as I read that Adderal was used to help antention deficits. That's something that happened with PTSD.
    I don't drink I have amphetamine once or twice a month just to feel alive. With PTSD it's like as it progresses and you read things on it. Your open to the power of suggestion. I have PTSD and with it comes psychosis, bi polar, a bit of scitzophrenia and definitely the power of suggestion. Its a huge problem when a lot of the videos are negative. I end up having it all be the end of the day lol.
    The thing I felt works for me is meditation... To find a relaxing point not take my medication. And basically breakdown in a nice place in space. That's where I go these days.
    All I can say is I'm open minded and will try anything once. DMT made me very hyper vigilant and sketchy in its after effects. I heard things bigtime. And it's exactly the same after a breakdown. . everything becomes louder.
    The other things that helps me is the sun. I have to have lots of light in my head. I sun haze . I got to another place in my mind. It's like beautiful .
    I'm quite used to.ptsd its become my friend. I've accepted it and it works that way for me...I wouldn't want not to have it basically ..
    Life throws blows at humans. and with the world situation I'd imagine half of us are traumatised from the media etc. I'd like to take the reason for the trauma away. As it's hard to believe such evil people exist. So I do my own hypnosis. It stops aggitaion. Sometimes I feel I was hypnosised a bit by the mental health. As he told me to look at him and asked if the TV wS speaking to me. I said no. Once again the power of suggestion. I got home and it was say things lol.
    I'm a positive person and if I can help anyone to come to terms with PTSD I'd help the anyone. I think the was PTSD is shown on some of these videos actually frightens some to death .
    The best things to help anyone with PTSD.is hope . That's all just hope that theyll get back together and be so called normal again.abd their basically isn't any. All there is is talk no action.
    I decided to open myself to everything that could help me. and basically I found the best of the best is light. Loads of light .. it reaches the soul and connects the head and heart like a normal person should feel . Once this connection is made your soul can recover. I mean light as every form of light. The mind's eye loves light . It loves the sun. Is bounces around lol. Even lighting in the home if you look at it for a while. It's like it holds magic. I've had PTSD for 15 years. And the best natural one is light. . Also there's light in darkness. You cannot wake up a soul based on darkness and fear. Only on.light and good music.;)

    @fatlucy101 7 лет назад +10

    The resistance your eyelids feel is not due to hypnotic suggestions but a physiological effect. He tells you to close your eyes. Then, more importantly, he tells you to close them even tighter. He then talks for a while, your eyelids still all tensed up. This an amount of tension your eyelids do not experience often. Then, he tells you to open your eyes. Most likely, you will use the normal amount of force to try and open your eyes, but that is not enough to offset the tension of your eyelids at that state. So they don't open. Or maybe they just hesitate. It does depend on how tight your eyes were closed. Try doing the eye exercise without the video. Even knowing it takes more force to open your eyes while tightly closed, your eyelids will still hesitate when you open them. It's the same as scrunching a toe tightly for a while and then trying to move it back quickly.

    Ok, my mind was blown. I could NOT open my eyes. When he snapped they popped open and I yelled, "holy crap". I also love this man's voice and attitude, totally checking the website out

      What just happened!!! I couldn't open them too until he snap. I always thought hypnosis is fake and I just can't believe what just happened....

    That was insane omg!!! I just couldn’t open my eyes no matter what, and this comes from a person who struggles to keep his eyes closed when he’s falling asleep!

    Hypnotism is a load of bollocks. I have missed my turning at a junction and cried during movies and i had no problem opening my eyes.

    • @VideoMenu
      @VideoMenu 8 лет назад +1

      Your critical thinking sucks because being able to be hypnotized (missing a turn or crying) never meant you could be hypnotized here with very little effort.

    • @daveyevans2124

      +VideoMenu Missing a turn or crying during a movie is not being hypnotised.

      +Davey Evans so How do you know that?

    • @Peter_1986
      @Peter_1986 7 лет назад

      Hypnosis doesn't mean that you have to be awakened by someone - a lot of people fail to realise this for some reason.
      Hypnosis is simply a state with lower brain activity and where you can be in deeper thought than normal, and this brain activity has actually been recorded with real equipment in one of the MythBusters episodes - you could literally see the subject's brain activity sink to an usually low level.

      Davey Evans well part of the reason you can't be hypnotised is because you don't want to be. No matter how much you say you want to, here you are being a jerk and leaving this comment. This worked for me, truly, because I wanted it to happen (mainly just to prove you wrong)
