I have a question about the video you made about a year ago,,how to get instant fuel and oil pressure,,what was the name brand and size of that vacum pump you were using I can't find one anywhere
I have been a fan of your video for about 2 years now and I am at the airport going to navy boot camp right now. Keep up the good work and keep posting videos I might not be able to see them for a about 8 weeks but there is a lot of people that love them.

Sometimes techs don't think much of us because we normally start super green(maybe just my shop) but I love learning what you guys go thru. Crazy going from us countermen looking at diagrams to seeing the true disassembly of the engine/chassis side stuff
Most common fuel dilution. We had a crusher with a C15 that had a fuel/ oil cooler that leaked oil into the fuel. As a truck mechanic it was a head scratcher to diagnose that one. It was like a little radiator in front of the radiator that oil and fuel return ran through. Strange setup.
@@AdeptApe scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage and red/green peppers sprinkled with Cholula sauce. Now keeping in mind I’m basically lazy, I use a product called “Crack an egg” which has all the ingredients, just stir in an egg, then it cooks in the microwave. All that rolled up in a flour tortilla. To be truthful I’m not sure if mine is any better than the frozen ones. 😇
I noticed you are very thorough and it's rare today to find that in a technician. Kudos to you sir and I have officially subscribed. Thank you for the videos.
Great video professor Ape! We had a severe injector O-ring failure on a CAT 3196 that super diluted the oil as well. Right after replacing the injector, the turbo failed. My guess was the poor oil viscosity took out the axial bearings in the turbo running under high load with the diluted oil.
I have been working as a heavy duty mechanic for 37 years and have replace lots of injectors but I have replaced more transfer pumps that leaked into the gear train and into the pan than injectors. I can't believe you have never seen it as it is really common but my area is not on highway it is all off highway, dozers, graders, excavators etc but same engines.
You forgot that BXS engines used a non Cat compression brake. As for the fuel in the oil, we have a five gallon bucket of test fuel with dye added. We remove the lines at the head and hook up to a old fuel transfer pump that we cut the end off. Remove the valve covers and remove any fluid on top of the head and make it as dry as possible. Use a air drill and pump the dyed fuel into the fuel rail back into the bucket. Naturally engine is not running, but the pump is and look for signs of leakage. If needed we can pull the valve train off also. Over time you will get leakage out from the plungers. I also use a variable fitting to ad restriction and use a psi gauge to put psi on the system if needed. Once source of leak is found, drain out any of the dyed fuel back into the bucket for the next one.
When we did top deck inspections on EMD's, we could use a black light and no dye; a fuel leak would show up grey under the light. My guess is that this was a reaction in the aniline dye used in non road tax fuel (we were dealing with marine EMD's). The places to look were the injector, the injector end of the fuel jumper and the manifold end of the jumper. Prior to the black light method, all you really had was looking for lube oil pathways and surface tension puddles that were not there due to thinning.
Glad you found your customer's problem. I wish you would stop making fun of Cummins engines. They're the only folks that are making engines for RVs these days so I have to own one if I want a newer RV. Really just funnin' ya it's kind of the Ford Chevy thing. They both work and they both have their issues. Keep the good stuff coming.
Before watching the video, i made the assumption that it was smt to do with one of the injectors. To my surprise adept talked about that being a common issue 😂. As an equipment guy in manufacturing and not service, it was cool to see this in a real world application. School taught me about it, but i have yet to encounter it in the field or shop.
I had a 3.8 make oil. When it did so it filled the crankcase enough that the evap system sucked fuel and oil into the turbo causing the engine to run away. Found the cause to be that the injector drain line bolts were not tight.
I had a EL 240B cat excavator that had this same problem. I had a 3116 cat engine and I had to have the head replaced to fix it. I also have a L90B Volvo loader and it had a injector cup that cracked and leaked compression into the cooling system.
I always found fuel dilution in Cat C series engine, 15, 18, 27 Most common problem comes from Injector Oring, another from Seal shaft fuel tansfer pump. i dont know why there is no improvement from Cat about that.
About a year ago I had sent you some plans for a home made fuel system tester, you found it interesting. One of the functions it can do is pressurize the fuel system to 65 lbs [Detroit Diesel fuel pressure] by capping off the fuel return line thus allowing observation of source of leak without the engine running. Since then I did a little "service truck tour" on You Tube with one segment going over how to build and operate tester. If any of your subscribers has an interest please look at the video. I enjoy your videos very much!

We just had fuel dilution in our oil on our Volvo with a 3406E. After three trips to CAT, it ended to being the fuel transfer pump. The senior tech said he had only seen that once in his 20+ years.
The early D9L's fitted with 3412's had an issue with the internal injector lines splitting. The dealer I worked for in the 80's delivered 3 new tractors and I got sent to site to sort it out, 3 new D9L's all inoperative with the highest hours on the machines was 27 hours, needless to say the customer was less than impressed. But got them going again
This last Thanksgiving I had a late night/early morning (arrived on site 2am) roadcall request for truck stalled on the highway on ramp and would not start again. The driver thought it was batteries (lol). Truck start gives a "shunk" but doesn't turn motor over. Tested batteries, and voltage drop Tested starter and that all checks out. Pull the dip stick amd the oil level is several inches above the full line. Had to give the driver the good news 3am Thanksgiving day that his motor is likely hydro-locked and engine has been making oil.
I had a friend who had the same problem three months after new injectors where installed. I told him his truck smelled like it was running rich and that was the problem.
