The end title of TL was a Roland 303 or something similar… the way it morphs into a score from an electronic beat is awesome and shows how the combination of Daft Punk and a Score writer composer blends perfectly.
Tron Legacy and Oblivion have more in common than than Joseph Trapanese. Both have incredible soundtracks, are very underrated movies, as well as their director (photography, design, vfx…). The evolution of the film score industry and the implementation of computers and DAWS, made it possible for people with no classical background (who cannot read music) to become “composers”, which is great. Problem is, once they become famous (Zimmer mostly), and begin to hire assistants for EVERYTHING, it becomes very difficult for them to make a breakthrough and make a name for themselves (Badelt, Gregson-William brothers, Rabin, Mazzaro, etc). Trapanese surely deserves it.
Some very good points there. I think that the decreasing in the barrier of entry for composers and producers has changed the industry in many ways both for good and for bad. An now we have AI… time will tell. Thanks for watching!

I'd add a formant shifter and change the formant (not the pitch) to something like an octave lower to get it more powerful and electronic-sounding. I think Daft Punk and M83 created the synths and the melody, and Joseph Trapanese took the melody and adapt it to play it on orchestra and blend it with the synths.
ruclips.net/video/lzBmAEIe9o0/видео.html my take is, though he probably didn't get his due credit as a collaborator, that's more because of his insistence. He expresses that he helped them translate their ideas for the orchestration heavy stuff. Daft Punk directed it and it was their vision, according to all parties involved. But take into account that this was also Joseph's big break into the industry so I think he might have just gone along with letting them take credit for some of his composition ideas, though again, he says this is not the case.
For sure. I also read a few interviews where he says that. It definitely doesn’t seem that Joseph has any issues with the way things were credited. This is just my personal take but I’m just a peasant and I don’t have any inside knowledge of what actually happened.

This is incredible. Tron Legacy, Oblivion (especially the main song during the credits ending with a super piano ambient arrangement). Some of my favourite movie soundtracks of all time! Also, the Netflix movie with Jamie Foxx titled Power (has the theme song for Jamie's super power - highly recommend listening to it - Flashback / Power). All these arranged or co-composed by Joseph Trapanese. It all makes sense to me now. This video has opened my eyes. Thnx
very interesting video! I've liked Trapanese's work for quite some time, also due to Tron Legacy. I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing him! :D he also part of the project called Archis (check out the song Blood) and did the trailer music for the first Iron Man 3 trailer, that one was pretty iconic to me! :)
Doesn't an orchestrator have a different role in creating the score as the composer? So when the orchestrator becomes the composer of the same IP for antoher show similarities arise. For example Williams Jurassic Park score vs Giacchino Jurassic World. On another note. Joseph Trapanese also scored Kosinki's 3rd film 'Only the Brave'. This could mean that Trapanese and Kosinki have a shared aesthetic feel for the music like ie. Nolan and Zimmer
I thought this too. Also the Uprising rendition of the motif goes in different harmonic directions than Daft Punk tend to. I always assumed they made their synth compositions, then asked Trapanese as the arranger to, well, arrange. Assign the arpeggios and motifs to the strings, brass, etc as Trapanese felt appropriate. Daft Punk have always been collaborative in one way or another, be it with disco records in their first albums or recording with their disco idols in their final album. Given the way Trapanese said it was their vision and he was just along for the ride, I figure they had input in various orchestration arrangements as well. Certainly he has tendencies to arrange synth basslines in certain ways, similar with Oblivion, but compositionally the latter did sound like M83 to me. Just, again, one where demos got intercepted by a classical arranger and mixed-in.
Great analysis & video. Always thought DP got too much credit for T:L. I still get chills when I hear the track “recogniser” from when Sam first enters The Grid.
