You’re not alone about Julien’s voice over. It really took me out of the moment. It was supposed to be this big dramatic thing and it sounded almost like a parody the way she was reading it.
As a person who grew up with the OG Gossip Girl, the voiceover is the same in both the old and new series. And Kristen Bell does the voice in both series. I agree that it doesn't sound great.
lowkey i always thought that -clear psychological issues and toxicity aside - that was kind of what motivated (maybe not motivated, but, explained) characters like dan and jenny and chuck (and even his father and uncle) in the original GG like how the new money vibes just makes you feel outsider and constantly prove yourself versus the old moneys who just do not even realise how everything is handed and perfect in their lives.
seeing someone like Monet, a black mean girl who is just living her life in high school is so refreshing because we never get to see black mean girls only girls like Regina George or Channel from Scream queens
trust me, there have been plenty of “mean black girls” but they were never written in the way that regina or chanel was bc racial stereotypes played a huge role for the black girls but not the white ones. black girls have always been the “mean girls” to some extent but it was always done in cinema to where they weren’t portrayed as mean or influential or “i want to be like them” but they’ve been portrayed as angry, aggressive, and ghetto. and that kind of ties in to gg too because monet so far has only been used as the mean girl, her character really has no depth. but i get what you mean, we’ve never seen a character like monet. she’s mean without necessarily being painted as an angry black woman or as ghetto and aggressive. her rich privilege and the need to change her chosen path for her are some of the reasons for her being the way she is. plus she’s in a position of power to where she’s feared yes but still a girl that everyone looks at and looks up to because of her social and economic status. but still, for gg’s sake, in season 2, they’d better start to give an actual storyline for her or they’d might get blow back (like they did for the first season) for having the only dark-skinned character only existing in the plot to be a bully and to just further her own career.
The reason the teachers being GG doesn’t work is because they don’t have access to the group in the same way Dan Humphrey had, since he was a student. The teachers can’t follow them to beach houses or know what goes on in their inner circles so GG becomes obsolete and unreliable once school is out.
Obie was very infuriating. Especially when Julien was going through that stuff with her dad and obies like “what about meee :(((“ bruh why can’t you just be there for her in the hardest time of her life and not expect something back? I disliked him even more after that.

I really love Monet but i hope she is utilized more in season 2 and given more depth to her. It’s cool we get a mean girl but at the same time, I’d like to know more about her. I think she can be confident and have some underlying issues as to why she is the way she is, sort of like how despite Blair being calculated and popular she still battled low self esteem and bulimia. I’m just wondering what’s underneath the surface for Monet. I’m also hoping to see less of the teachers because i think much of their screentime could’ve been used to add more depth to Monet and Luna, who’ve been developed as characters the least so far in my opinion and much of their screentime being used to develop Julien.
@@sana3843 I feel like she could be more than just a bully and that the writers just haven’t developed her properly yet though. I think she’s an interesting character to work with, and just like Blair, she could be smart, vulnerable, and insecure just as she is mean. I like her character because I feel there’s potential for her to be more than a bully. Luna has a little more development to her storyline though-like the boyfriend storyline which is really important to Luna as a trans character.
as an OG fan, this was a step down, but had redeeming qualities that I do appreciate What I didn't like: 1. teachers being GG/the big focus on them- the secret of GG made the show super fun and the fact that its these teachers is beyond gross to me and I hate how much they show them! like they show them ALOT, I kept wanting them to go back to the teens and people we care about NOT them! 2. less focus on the rich aspect - the original always had lavish balls and gowns and so much that was escapism that made it fun to watch and I loved living vicariously through but this one didn't feel as glamorous 3. the drama overall - it's not spicy enough, like serena straight up killed someone and the build up to the reveal was amazing, blair was messing with her bf's best friend in secret, like there was soooo much tea but this one lacked that a lot, they kind of had that with obi-julien-zoya love triangle but then that was revealed like right away so there was like no tension to that either, we need more drama!! What I DID like: 1. more diversity - the og was definitely super white washed and hetero, this was suuuuuper refreshing to see them incorporate more diversity with race and sexuality 2. being up to day to modern times - with both having GG be on insta and some of the topics they covered like being "cancelled", I really liked how they made it feel like it was really happening in todays time 3. audrey-aki-max poly relationship - no explanation needed, they're iconic
Also Gossip Girl needs to blast other people. In the OG series, "she" would go after everyone...Nate, Chuck, Blair, Vanessa, Jenny, even the parents weren't safe! With the reboot the focus is too much on Julien and Zoya.
Obie irks my soul like he gives me "I don't date black girls but you're not like them" tease (if that makes sense). I watch the previous OG GG so I'll try not to be bias.
The biggest downfall is that the characters lack genuine motivation to their behaviors, and that Julien is the HBIC. I think once that role is handed to Monet, who has no shame and resentment in being a mean girl, that the show will improve.
personally I hated the way GG handled the student teacher relationship. There are so many shows that normalize/romanticize this toxic dynamic. *cough cough* PLL. I was hoping the show would handle the topic with more care and nuance, unlike its predecessors. Instead it felt as though they were victim blaming Max when Rafa is the one who took advantage of him when he was in a vulnerable position. Also the way Max’s parents reacted was weird to me. Through out the series we’re shown that, despite their issues with each other, Max’s dads love him. Brushing off Max’s relationship isn’t aligned with their character development at all. Parents who genuinely care about their children’s well being wouldn’t brush off a predatory relationship, even if they’re technically the age of consent. In terms of the rest of the show, I thought it was alright. There were a lot of cringey moments that had me dying of second hand embarrassment.
Completely agree and I’m glad you brought this up. It really felt as though they just decided to end that storyline with Max apologizing for pursuing the relationship with Rafa when that was a GROWN MAN able to shut down a child. They even try and rationalize the relationship by throwing a line in that ‘technically Max is 17 so they aren’t doing anything illegal’ like???
100% and correct me if I wrong (it's been a while since I've seen the show) But when it was revealed rafa had a relationship with a 17 year old at his previous school??? Like what?? There were absolutely no répercussions for Rafa, just a brief réaction from max' close friends and his parents, really dissapointing. Even the teachers who are "heros" (in reality just creepy behaviour) didn't do anything to ensure rafa saw conséquences for his actions.
I did not ever buy that just because you are raised by your parents "to live your best authentic self" they look away when their son says he was in a relationship with a teacher. It doesn't matter if it's legal, when you are a parent you shut that shit down
it’s definitely problematic because why are grown adults trying to embarrass and ruin the reputations of teenagers? it’s giving “i didn’t peak in high school” and now that they are in a position of “power” they think it’s their turn to be on top as they never got to do when they were teens. not to mention the time that the main teacher followed the youngest character and her romantic interest and took pictures of them while they were taking their shirts off.. she should have been arrested on the spot. also, the reason they started gg, isn’t even relevant considering it’s not doing anything they thought it was going to do lol
As someone whose seen the OG I wish they had saved who the new gossip girl was at the end of this season. For me it left out what could have been a big mystery within the show. Yeah the characters don’t know who gossip girl is but the fun of the OG was playing the guessing game. I get not wanting to do that for season after season again but the pilot episode is way too soon. I mean if they did scenes with the teachers and their dynamic within working at the school, leading up to the reveal I would understand them a little bit better. I wouldn’t have liked still but they maybe wouldn’t have seem so creepy. I thought it was an okay show I just think there’s a lot that needs build on. The dialogue is really cringe at times but maybe they can smooth it out by next season and maybe not drop plot points so soon in the season.
I really had no interest in all of the characters that much except for Max, Aki and Aubrey. Their storyline I really enjoyed because it was different and I like Max as a character. everything else I found myself skipping through. Most of the characters I did not like. I know a lot of people love Monet but I hate the mean girl vibe she was giving because I was like "do you have anything else to offer?".

I get that they add some sort of comedic aura in the show but I too can't understand why being mean is portrayed as a girl boss or yass girl moment. Monet is mean for literally no reason and she adds nothing to the show. She is like a copy and paste of Blair but Blair had so much more depth.
Kate and the rest of the teachers need to get a life! I was talking to a friend the other day about their weird obsession with the power dynamic over the Instagram page. It’d make so much more sense if they were making money off of the page; accepting brand deals, turning into some sort of shade room sort of page, making gossip girl into a lucrative brand that will allow them to make a living. But they’re not even making any money so I’m like what is really the point
I have never watched the OG GG so idk if my opinion is valid but the reboot on its own is really good. Does it have flaws, yeah cause what show doesn't. The cast is diverse and has overall pretty good representation. My only complaint would probably have the main cast's storyline be fleshed out a bit more.

I don't find it that diverse. They cast three light skin black women but not a single dark skin? As if you can't be rich and dark. Also there are a lot of rich middle easterns living in New York which again like any teen show there isn't any in this show. The show isn't that diverse or special compared to how other shows are casting currently. Dark skinned people and middle eastern will never be cast, that's too diverse for Hollywood.
The second part of the season was definitely the highlight of the series. Literally everything went straight downhill, the drama was increased tenfold and I think the characters were given more reflection and stuff on their actions and things. I do agree that it is an actual good show and I can't wait for season 2 😊

As someone who watched the original, this was a wonderful step up from the original version, I just wish that they kept who gossip girl was a secret till the end like they did with the original version. Also the way gossip girl enunciates mimics the original perfectly, the puns, the witty remarks all fit extremely well while staying current with certain aspects of their wordplay.

Yeah, ruining the element of surprise of who gossip girl is puts them in a tight position of how they’ll end the series later on. Like the OG ended on revealing the identity so how do they expect to end this one: with the teachers getting caught and arrested? Like I just don’t understand how they’ll deal with that yet

monet’s mom and kate’s conversation took me out. like everything the mom said was classist and completely unprovoked but she was also extremely spot on about kate.
i have never fully watched og gg, only the reboot and as a standalone its decent but i definitely wish there was less focus on the adults (teachers nd parents) and that we knew more about all of the main characters like luna…no one feels properly characterized and its hard to pin down character motivations
it feels like both luna and monet are very two dimensional characters. all they are there to do is to support jc which would’ve made sense if we didn’t see them much but they’re on screen enough to the point where i think they deserve to have more thought out motivations and character attributes.
I watched the original and couldn't get past the first episode of the new GG just cause it really didn't do the original any justice in the storyline or how suspense was built up ... I guess watching them as different shows is easier but the OG was 1000 times better in my opinion.
I feel like the reboot, especially the second part captured the pure MESSINESS that was gossip girl. Because whew chile… og gg was MESSYYYYYYYY. The reboot stands out on its own and anyone who didn’t see the original can still watch it but it still has Easter eggs for the og fans.
I agree, I loved the second part of the reboot as an origianl show fan tho I didn't think it was necceserry to take what 6-7 episodes to get juicy because the original show was (full drama & MESSY AS FUCK!! first of all!) but the 10 minutes of the first episode was probably the best 10 minutes in tv history because it was DRAMA, IT WAS MESSY, IT WAS CRAZY!!
Regarding the weird way they talked: the puns, "announcing" what they say, the almost cringe-worthy metaphors, all with dramaticism... i feel like OG Gossip Girl had that same style of dialogue, particulary for the most liked characters (Blair, Dan, the GG narrator, Georgina, etc) . At the time i feel like those where remnants of the original producers work in the OC (which was filled with that, especially from seth cohen, again, one of its most beloved characters), but now i think they decided "oh people liked it so we'll just make everyone talk like that"
Okay this show really bothers me… like every problems is resolved within the same episode, the characters act like they’re in their late 20s/30s rather than teens, and why does Zoya act like she’s a victim when she started dating her sisters boyfriend of many years right after they broke up… she’s not the victim in this. Also, Obie is an an asshole for sister hopping so screw him. Disappointed cuz hbo has such great shows but everything about this is show is predictable

the fact that we already know the identity of gossip girl is a big turn off. I understand that maybe they wanted to do things different, but no. plus, the people behind gossip girl suck. I mean, grown up adults bullying and exposing kids just like that. dang, if the kids annoy you that much be a teacher and educate them. and the new media doesn't sit well for me, maybe Twitter would be more appropriate choice.

(idk if this has already been said) however two notes: 1) I believe that the reason they chose to make Gossip Girl the teachers on this iteration is due to fan conspiracy and dissatisfaction with the reveal of gossip girl from the original version. As someone who also watched the (OG) show all the way through, I was quite disappointed with who they chose in the end and it seemed rushed and nonsensical. And if I remember correctly, during and after the show lots of fans speculated better options for who Gossip Girl could actually be based on things that made sense for the plot of the series at that time. 2) the manner of speaking and little "Spotted" or Gossip Girl's overdramatic way of speaking is a nod to the original show and its concept. I understand it's corny though lol In neither sense am I trying to justify these choices. I have lots of opinions, however I haven't watched the new version really so I will refrain for now haha
i like the new gg miles better than the original. each season of the original there was SO much going on it felt like a chore watching it. I'm all here for mess but it was always too much unnecessary drama going on. plus i hated damn near each character this new one, I've grown to like every character by the end and i like how things are paced. and i feel like im the only person who actually likes the teacher as gg? mainly, i like seeing kate take charge in order to keep herself from being fired and then letting power get to her head.

I like how gossip girl is revealed in the first episode because it the point it’s making is that it doesn’t matter who gossip girl “is” since everyone feeds into and invests in the drama. Even in the original the main consensus was that Dan started the blog but everyone else kept GG going But at the same time it kinda does matter? GG is given more complexity in the reboot. GG as a “character” is fleshed out more when the gym teacher takes over. And when he starts writing the GG posts the dialogue of GG changes and sounds a lot less clever than when Kate writes it (example, when GG says “etcetera ect”) and the “face palm in the morning scene” which is why Kate is so adamant on getting GG back to maintain GG’s credibility

I'm a fan of the original show and I find you definitely have to suspend your expectations to enjoy this show. OG GG was very much a parody and the rich and visual spectacle that you don't get that much of until the end of the new show. The new version starts off so serious that I had way too much time to complain that half the students looked older than the teachers. I think when they saw the mixed rating they began to pivot. The first half was really weak in my opinion, I almost didn't come back to watch. But the second half is a bit more enjoyable. I personally did enjoy the guest star episodes, like Georgina's son at Zoya's birthday episode and Blair's parents and Dorota during the holidays. But they shouldn't have to lean on cameos for the whole series to keep old fans interested. I'll be honest I want to see more of the lavishness moving forward. I feel there needs to be more of a show of exactly why these kids are spoiled and entitled, instead of just teachers complaining that they're spoiled and entitled and we don't actually see that much of it. We actually see Julien working to be an influencer, Audrey dealing with her mother's illness and money troubles, and Max's whole life. If you ask me the only ones who actually appear rich are Obie and Monet, lol.
as a big fan of the og gossip girl, this show is just so boring to me. I loved the chaotic drama, and if you wanna talk about characters pissing you off but it’s entertaining… meet Serena and the fact she’s always gotta go somewhere LMAO I was actually rooting for the reboot, I was invested in the trailers and thought “this should be interesting” but I was flat out bored until like the third to last episode. I can’t tell you a characters name off the top of my head besides Aki because he’s the only one I liked. He was pretty neutral and I was interested in where his character was going but even then like… it was so boring to me. I feel like the og was aware it was trash and embraced it, and this one is trying to hard to be politically correct and updated with modern technology. I would rate it like a 4/10. I think you should definitely watch the og if you like drama, because it was WILD and so much happened just within the first season.
I’d love to see your take on Hollywood on Netflix, now getting into it it’s kinda bad 😭 but once you get into it it’s pretty good and it was much more than I expected
You needed to watch the first one to understand most of this. The dialogue is 100% apart of the original show. & if the teachers stopped or got caught there wouldn’t be a show. That is the entire plot line.
The end scene with Julian had so much potential but something was just off 😂😂I couldn’t understand some parts “maybe I’m just slow” but I replayed increased volume Googled what she said and still 😫😫The drama was there in the background but ahhhh
I feel like if they had made a group of students gossip girl and then somehow some teachers found out but turned a blind eye to it or even fed some information to the students because they were fed up with the rest of the students, that could make sense and be really interesting because then it would be a discussion on ethics, morals, teacher responsibility, etc. But as it is, I feel like its incredibly unbelievable that more than one teacher would do this willing and without reservations.

I think a lot of people who like the original more are probably the same people who are depicted in it. I love how diverse this Gossip Girl is, and I may not be rich but I feel like I can relate to the characters more because they are POC and Queer. When I watched the original GG I just called it WP ish.
this is one of the only shows where i was glad that they were played by 20-30 year olds bcuz i let all those scenes and all that dialogue slide bcuz it's painfully easy to forget that theyre supposed to be in high school 😭

I honestly disliked the show so much. It gave absolutely no impact. compared to other shows in the same genre this was so boring. Every ep built up to the most anticlimactic ending , like where is the real drama and tension. it felt like the writers were confused about their own characters. The stakes need to be pushed up. Some of the acting was very off an didn't give petty friends. it felt corny and hollow esp compared to old GG. I watched 4 seasons of OG and the entire of this one and the difference is crazy. The new one had such high hopes and fell flat. Also they need to be dressed to the 10sssss as wealthy modern kids in NY. All the inspiration and designer fits we have on insta and Tiktok ...the GG girls did not eat. euphoria is right there for how to do drama and insanity so they need to take some notes. id give it a 3/10. pointless
OG obsessed here and i read the most of the books too,! HBO should have made the OG i reckon, i love this for how similar the set up is AND that they reference the orignal characters - Max Wolfe is the Chuck Bass we needed - they have done a great job of bringing it into the now i think...i feel like im just too old tho and the teachers 🤢 I will always hold the OG dear to my heart, i hope this reboot can give its generation the same joy
I was about to stop watching the show before seing this. I mean Gossip girl's identity being teachers feels so unrealistic to me in so many way not to mention how wrong it sounds. I don't particularily like any character but the overall was good, cringe but since I didn't have any expectations of the reboot I wasn't let down by them haha. First of all, the diverse cast would make me watch any show really, so good move. Obie and K were the worst for me, K is just overral super annoying and I couldn't stand her. Obie is just and entiteled white kid that expect people to be his way and that's about it. Not to mention dating sister .. gives me the white guy in shining armor wanna be but there is no armor and no charm.

As a fan of the OG GG, I actually enjoyed the reboot a lot. ofc, there is a lot that needs to improve (and I hope it does for the next season) but generally they managed to include iconic things from the original and make it modern really well to me.
As another OG fan i tried to go in watching it as its own entity and doing that really helped my watching experience because nothing is going to replace the Serena Blair rivalry in my eyes. I think it was very entertaining and it gave the same vibe as the original series but with its own identity. I don’t consider it a reboot but as it’s own show because it has the same qualities but not the same feeling as watching the old series. I love both but nothing will replace the original series
You can just tell how miserable there teachers are by the way they obsess and push their way into these students lives. They gotta permanently get off the screen
the voice over in the background of the show was a staple of the original show, which is why it is featured in the new version. usually the voiceover was whatever the post on the gossip girl website was. also it’s voiced by kristen bell not the girl who plays kate lol edit: will say jc’s voiceover during the final scene was not it😭🥲
I like the show, i even waited for the 2nd half, The only problem i had is they are lacking of glamor, I mean its new york! Wheres the elite billionare rich shit they are describing?? I dnt feel it. Emily in the paris can have the glamor of paris but why cant they?? FR the show looks like the squatter of new york.
I just think the acting was really bad. Thomas played Max well and did what he could with the content they gave him. But, personally, I think the best piece of acting was during Santacon when Zoya, Julien, and Obie are in Obie’s car and that dude smushes his stomach against their window. Zoya let’s out the most outrageous scream and it had my sisters and I laughing for 10 minutes straight.
honestly i didn't like the original all that much...i stopped by like season 2. the "gossip girl voice" is actually the same actress (kristen bell) who narrated the original. it was the same sort of thing where you'd hear gossip girl narrating the posts. as for this reboot.....hm....i found it to be worse lmaoo. i probably should have expected that feeling but yeahhh. somehow it took me forever to get through the first 6 episodes, i really didn't like the pacing. it felt so rushed to me. they actually referenced the original a lot, i thought it was cute at first but then they started to overdo it...imo lastly, i found these characters to be baseless...like wherrrre was the development?? literally all of them are the same exact people as they started out as.... all in all, i still went back and watched the second half. still thought it was kinda bad but i'm sure i'll end up watching season 2 anyway haha. something about it keeps me going back i guess..
Yeah but we only get 12 episodes to establish EVERYONE. So I could cut these characters slack until season 2 to see if they’re better fleshed out. I thought the chuck character was an improvement. 🤷🏼♀️ but yeah original GG s1 is royalty imo afterwards discardable
As someone who originally liked the show I was very disappointed. The fact we know who gossip girl is and on top of that it’s the FLIPPING TEACHERS. Honestly that those two things ruined it for me. Like...it sucks like I wish I could enjoy this show. I wanted to like is so bad but I just can’t. Also the original soooo much better like seriously.
The narration is honestly the most iconic part of the show. It is annoying to a certain degree BUT in the original, because we never know who gossip girl is in the series finale it makes the narration funny. Like something crazy will happen in the episode and then gossip girl sends out a text and you're left wondering which one of you are gossip girl. The reboot showing who GG is from the start is where they messed up.
I didn't hate it, but I felt like it took too long to get to any point. Like, more than half of the episodes seemed to be just introducing the characters and their lives while nothing happened. You have Audrey and Aki, and their relationship just takes so long to get to the point of them realizing they want Max to join the relationship, they stall so much with no build-up, no tension, they just keep avoiding each other a lot of times. You have this fight going on between Julien and Zoya that makes no sense because they like each other and it's other people that keep creating drama, and they repeat this for the majority of the episodes. Zoya's relationship with Obie also makes no sense to me, because you see them actually talking once or twice and then they just also avoid each other or get mad at each other for no apparent reason. It just seems like an obvious way to keep the tension between the sisters but none of them seemed to actually like Obie. I think they could have fast-paced a lot of plot points to get to some actual plot lines.
you should do a video on the original gossip girl !! its one of my guilty pleasure shows, and you said you haven't seen it so you should at least watch an episode or two !
Interesting why this series gets a lot of hate for the sexualisation of highschool students. Just recapped Euphoria and it is sooo much worse. GG is a disney show in comparison!
I loved the original Gossip Girl and it's one of my favorite shows, but this new Gossip Girl is not bad. It is not as good as the original and in the beginning, I felt like it was kinda slow, but it grew on me. I wished the characters were more likable. At the end of the season, it was hard for me to find anyone to root for because I just felt like everyone was terrible and selfish. Like in the original they weren't the best of people either, but they had some likable qualities that made me root for them, but this new Gossip Girl does not have that. Also, I thought it was interesting having the teachers be Gossip Girl, but I hope it does not last for the entire show because it's just creepy. There for sure needs to be some changes and improvements moving forward with this show, but overall it's not bad and I did enjoy it. Thanks for your reaction and your commentary!
thomas is the only good actor there. The rest of them delivering their lines are so cringe. As an OG fan, I could see certain moments that were trying to recreate the old show but came across very half done and cheesy. I don't feel these rich people brokenness on the reboot, I just hate them. Luna and Monae are superior than the old show's minions (or julian dare I say), they are actual individuals with their own lives and unique set of characteristics, they deserve more on the show!

The original is deff. better than the new one. the original gave us DRAMA. like juicy, malicious, heartbreaking, drama. I LOVED to watch that mess and drama lol. the downfall of the old one was that it was an all white cast....lol. BUT this reboot is great because its so inclusive. but i will say that I wish that maybe they didn't introduce all of the inclusivity in season 1. like we got to see as the show went on. because then it just reminded me of how political and politically correct the world has gotten, it felt super influenced by the news, and politics. The new kids are beautiful but just kinda mean. I also dont like how obsessed the teachers are with the students.... i just....ugh. I kinda feel like it throws things off. Overall though i love it. i recommend watching the old one though. it really is THAT good. and it will help understand where the gossip girl voice comes from lol. PLUS they were using sidekick cell phones and flexing it like it was the greatest invention of all time just a VIBE lmao
i’m so mixed with the political side of things for the show. like i think it’s good that shows with younger casts include politics when it makes SENSE with the storyline. however with this one it just felt very unrealistic that all of these ultra rich people were “politically correct”. it came across as being preachy at points, which again made sense for oboe and zoyas characters but tbh i can’t see the other characters being (for lack of a better term) as progressive or compassionate as they were at points if that makes sense? also i deff agree with you that the og is better. i much preferred the campiness to this more serious take. definitely had its issues though with diversity, and honestly chucks character as a whole💀

I like this Gossip Girl as a stand alone it's great but I do gotta say I LOVED!! The og Gossip Girl too like it was just MESSY & you understood that these people were terrible people & they were all toxic for eachother (cuz the shit they all did to eachother👀) & the first 10 minutes of the first episode is probably one of the best 10 minutes of a first episode in TV history like so much drama was going on it was crazy! which is why I don't understand why the new one took so long to get messy if that makes sense but it was good!
As an OG fan, I HATE IT...I was so excited thou when I heard about this project but omfg what a disappointment. I try to find a character that I would root for but I can't!!! they're all stupid and boring. THE ONLY GOOD THING IS FASHION on this show I love seeing their looks and that's it.
I have not watched this because a) loved the original series so much I did not want it to get ruined and b) the backlash that it got. While the original was far from perfect, I was invested in the characters. Blaire is still a favorite. I have a love/hate relationship with Dan. I still like Nate and Eric even if they weren’t my favorite characters. I liked the character growth some of the characters had that allowed me to remain invested. From what I keep hearing with the new series, the writing does not touch on what made the original series lovable.
Ahhhh I actually like this more than the original, we have an actual plot, not just drama that rich people can understand that sounds pretty and stupid, we have representation, I loved the actors and the story so far is going great
I agree that the old GG and reboot are two distinct shows (even though the new one does contain a few nods to the OG: like the teacher mentioning Nate, Nelly Yuki's reappearance and Milo getting into trouble (just like his mama Georgina predicted...totally here for it!). I love the OG for the escapism and feeling like I'm a fly in the wall of this rich upper east side new york. There was also more drama and the overarching love story between Blair and Chuck was the true gem of the series. I feel like the whole Aki and Audrey thing tries to recreate that by gen z'ing it up to make it more relevant to today's sexually fluid world. I don't love it to wanna watch it every year like I do the old GG, but maybe season 2 will change that. Until then, XOXO. lol :D

As a person who grew up with the OG Gossip Girl, the voiceover is the same in both the old and new series. And Kristen Bell does the voice in both series. I agree that it doesn't sound great.

lowkey i always thought that -clear psychological issues and toxicity aside - that was kind of what motivated (maybe not motivated, but, explained) characters like dan and jenny and chuck (and even his father and uncle) in the original GG like how the new money vibes just makes you feel outsider and constantly prove yourself versus the old moneys who just do not even realise how everything is handed and perfect in their lives.

trust me, there have been plenty of “mean black girls” but they were never written in the way that regina or chanel was bc racial stereotypes played a huge role for the black girls but not the white ones. black girls have always been the “mean girls” to some extent but it was always done in cinema to where they weren’t portrayed as mean or influential or “i want to be like them” but they’ve been portrayed as angry, aggressive, and ghetto. and that kind of ties in to gg too because monet so far has only been used as the mean girl, her character really has no depth. but i get what you mean, we’ve never seen a character like monet. she’s mean without necessarily being painted as an angry black woman or as ghetto and aggressive. her rich privilege and the need to change her chosen path for her are some of the reasons for her being the way she is. plus she’s in a position of power to where she’s feared yes but still a girl that everyone looks at and looks up to because of her social and economic status. but still, for gg’s sake, in season 2, they’d better start to give an actual storyline for her or they’d might get blow back (like they did for the first season) for having the only dark-skinned character only existing in the plot to be a bully and to just further her own career.

The reason the teachers being GG doesn’t work is because they don’t have access to the group in the same way Dan Humphrey had, since he was a student. The teachers can’t follow them to beach houses or know what goes on in their inner circles so GG becomes obsolete and unreliable once school is out.

I really love Monet but i hope she is utilized more in season 2 and given more depth to her. It’s cool we get a mean girl but at the same time, I’d like to know more about her. I think she can be confident and have some underlying issues as to why she is the way she is, sort of like how despite Blair being calculated and popular she still battled low self esteem and bulimia. I’m just wondering what’s underneath the surface for Monet. I’m also hoping to see less of the teachers because i think much of their screentime could’ve been used to add more depth to Monet and Luna, who’ve been developed as characters the least so far in my opinion and much of their screentime being used to develop Julien.

I think she’s an interesting character to work with, and just like Blair, she could be smart, vulnerable, and insecure just as she is mean. I like her character because I feel there’s potential for her to be more than a bully. Luna has a little more development to her storyline though-like the boyfriend storyline which is really important to Luna as a trans character.
as an OG fan, this was a step down, but had redeeming qualities that I do appreciate
What I didn't like:
1. teachers being GG/the big focus on them- the secret of GG made the show super fun and the fact that its these teachers is beyond gross to me and I hate how much they show them! like they show them ALOT, I kept wanting them to go back to the teens and people we care about NOT them!
2. less focus on the rich aspect - the original always had lavish balls and gowns and so much that was escapism that made it fun to watch and I loved living vicariously through but this one didn't feel as glamorous
3. the drama overall - it's not spicy enough, like serena straight up killed someone and the build up to the reveal was amazing, blair was messing with her bf's best friend in secret, like there was soooo much tea but this one lacked that a lot, they kind of had that with obi-julien-zoya love triangle but then that was revealed like right away so there was like no tension to that either, we need more drama!!
What I DID like:
1. more diversity - the og was definitely super white washed and hetero, this was suuuuuper refreshing to see them incorporate more diversity with race and sexuality
2. being up to day to modern times - with both having GG be on insta and some of the topics they covered like being "cancelled", I really liked how they made it feel like it was really happening in todays time
3. audrey-aki-max poly relationship - no explanation needed, they're iconic

The biggest downfall is that the characters lack genuine motivation to their behaviors, and that Julien is the HBIC. I think once that role is handed to Monet, who has no shame and resentment in being a mean girl, that the show will improve.
personally I hated the way GG handled the student teacher relationship. There are so many shows that normalize/romanticize this toxic dynamic. *cough cough* PLL. I was hoping the show would handle the topic with more care and nuance, unlike its predecessors. Instead it felt as though they were victim blaming Max when Rafa is the one who took advantage of him when he was in a vulnerable position. Also the way Max’s parents reacted was weird to me. Through out the series we’re shown that, despite their issues with each other, Max’s dads love him. Brushing off Max’s relationship isn’t aligned with their character development at all. Parents who genuinely care about their children’s well being wouldn’t brush off a predatory relationship, even if they’re technically the age of consent. In terms of the rest of the show, I thought it was alright. There were a lot of cringey moments that had me dying of second hand embarrassment.
Completely agree and I’m glad you brought this up. It really felt as though they just decided to end that storyline with Max apologizing for pursuing the relationship with Rafa when that was a GROWN MAN able to shut down a child. They even try and rationalize the relationship by throwing a line in that ‘technically Max is 17 so they aren’t doing anything illegal’ like???

100% and correct me if I wrong (it's been a while since I've seen the show) But when it was revealed rafa had a relationship with a 17 year old at his previous school??? Like what?? There were absolutely no répercussions for Rafa, just a brief réaction from max' close friends and his parents, really dissapointing. Even the teachers who are "heros" (in reality just creepy behaviour) didn't do anything to ensure rafa saw conséquences for his actions.
I did not ever buy that just because you are raised by your parents "to live your best authentic self" they look away when their son says he was in a relationship with a teacher. It doesn't matter if it's legal, when you are a parent you shut that shit down

it’s definitely problematic because why are grown adults trying to embarrass and ruin the reputations of teenagers? it’s giving “i didn’t peak in high school” and now that they are in a position of “power” they think it’s their turn to be on top as they never got to do when they were teens. not to mention the time that the main teacher followed the youngest character and her romantic interest and took pictures of them while they were taking their shirts off.. she should have been arrested on the spot. also, the reason they started gg, isn’t even relevant considering it’s not doing anything they thought it was going to do lol

As someone whose seen the OG I wish they had saved who the new gossip girl was at the end of this season. For me it left out what could have been a big mystery within the show. Yeah the characters don’t know who gossip girl is but the fun of the OG was playing the guessing game. I get not wanting to do that for season after season again but the pilot episode is way too soon.
I mean if they did scenes with the teachers and their dynamic within working at the school, leading up to the reveal I would understand them a little bit better. I wouldn’t have liked still but they maybe wouldn’t have seem so creepy.
I thought it was an okay show I just think there’s a lot that needs build on. The dialogue is really cringe at times but maybe they can smooth it out by next season and maybe not drop plot points so soon in the season.

I really had no interest in all of the characters that much except for Max, Aki and Aubrey. Their storyline I really enjoyed because it was different and I like Max as a character. everything else I found myself skipping through. Most of the characters I did not like. I know a lot of people love Monet but I hate the mean girl vibe she was giving because I was like "do you have anything else to offer?".

Monet is mean for literally no reason and she adds nothing to the show. She is like a copy and paste of Blair but Blair had so much more depth.

Kate and the rest of the teachers need to get a life! I was talking to a friend the other day about their weird obsession with the power dynamic over the Instagram page. It’d make so much more sense if they were making money off of the page; accepting brand deals, turning into some sort of shade room sort of page, making gossip girl into a lucrative brand that will allow them to make a living. But they’re not even making any money so I’m like what is really the point

I have never watched the OG GG so idk if my opinion is valid but the reboot on its own is really good. Does it have flaws, yeah cause what show doesn't. The cast is diverse and has overall pretty good representation. My only complaint would probably have the main cast's storyline be fleshed out a bit more.

I don't find it that diverse. They cast three light skin black women but not a single dark skin? As if you can't be rich and dark. Also there are a lot of rich middle easterns living in New York which again like any teen show there isn't any in this show. The show isn't that diverse or special compared to how other shows are casting currently. Dark skinned people and middle eastern will never be cast, that's too diverse for Hollywood.

The second part of the season was definitely the highlight of the series. Literally everything went straight downhill, the drama was increased tenfold and I think the characters were given more reflection and stuff on their actions and things. I do agree that it is an actual good show and I can't wait for season 2 😊

As someone who watched the original, this was a wonderful step up from the original version, I just wish that they kept who gossip girl was a secret till the end like they did with the original version. Also the way gossip girl enunciates mimics the original perfectly, the puns, the witty remarks all fit extremely well while staying current with certain aspects of their wordplay.

Like the OG ended on revealing the identity so how do they expect to end this one: with the teachers getting caught and arrested? Like I just don’t understand how they’ll deal with that yet
I think they believe that they will get their climatic reveal through everyone finding out its been the teachers this entire time 😣😣but thats more dramatic for the characters and not the audience

monet’s mom and kate’s conversation took me out. like everything the mom said was classist and completely unprovoked but she was also extremely spot on about kate.
i have never fully watched og gg, only the reboot and as a standalone its decent but i definitely wish there was less focus on the adults (teachers nd parents) and that we knew more about all of the main characters like luna…no one feels properly characterized and its hard to pin down character motivations
it feels like both luna and monet are very two dimensional characters. all they are there to do is to support jc which would’ve made sense if we didn’t see them much but they’re on screen enough to the point where i think they deserve to have more thought out motivations and character attributes.

I watched the original and couldn't get past the first episode of the new GG just cause it really didn't do the original any justice in the storyline or how suspense was built up ... I guess watching them as different shows is easier but the OG was 1000 times better in my opinion.

I feel like the reboot, especially the second part captured the pure MESSINESS that was gossip girl. Because whew chile… og gg was MESSYYYYYYYY. The reboot stands out on its own and anyone who didn’t see the original can still watch it but it still has Easter eggs for the og fans.

Regarding the weird way they talked: the puns, "announcing" what they say, the almost cringe-worthy metaphors, all with dramaticism... i feel like OG Gossip Girl had that same style of dialogue, particulary for the most liked characters (Blair, Dan, the GG narrator, Georgina, etc) . At the time i feel like those where remnants of the original producers work in the OC (which was filled with that, especially from seth cohen, again, one of its most beloved characters), but now i think they decided "oh people liked it so we'll just make everyone talk like that"
Okay this show really bothers me… like every problems is resolved within the same episode, the characters act like they’re in their late 20s/30s rather than teens, and why does Zoya act like she’s a victim when she started dating her sisters boyfriend of many years right after they broke up… she’s not the victim in this. Also, Obie is an an asshole for sister hopping so screw him. Disappointed cuz hbo has such great shows but everything about this is show is predictable

(idk if this has already been said) however two notes: 1) I believe that the reason they chose to make Gossip Girl the teachers on this iteration is due to fan conspiracy and dissatisfaction with the reveal of gossip girl from the original version. As someone who also watched the (OG) show all the way through, I was quite disappointed with who they chose in the end and it seemed rushed and nonsensical. And if I remember correctly, during and after the show lots of fans speculated better options for who Gossip Girl could actually be based on things that made sense for the plot of the series at that time. 2) the manner of speaking and little "Spotted" or Gossip Girl's overdramatic way of speaking is a nod to the original show and its concept. I understand it's corny though lol In neither sense am I trying to justify these choices. I have lots of opinions, however I haven't watched the new version really so I will refrain for now haha
i like the new gg miles better than the original. each season of the original there was SO much going on it felt like a chore watching it. I'm all here for mess but it was always too much unnecessary drama going on. plus i hated damn near each character
this new one, I've grown to like every character by the end and i like how things are paced. and i feel like im the only person who actually likes the teacher as gg? mainly, i like seeing kate take charge in order to keep herself from being fired and then letting power get to her head.

Like season 2 when Dan starts dating a girl 👧 Amanda who gets bullied and disappears but turns out not for the bullying but because she was an actress paid by chuck! WTF
I like how gossip girl is revealed in the first episode because it the point it’s making is that it doesn’t matter who gossip girl “is” since everyone feeds into and invests in the drama. Even in the original the main consensus was that Dan started the blog but everyone else kept GG going
But at the same time it kinda does matter? GG is given more complexity in the reboot. GG as a “character” is fleshed out more when the gym teacher takes over. And when he starts writing the GG posts the dialogue of GG changes and sounds a lot less clever than when Kate writes it (example, when GG says “etcetera ect”) and the “face palm in the morning scene” which is why Kate is so adamant on getting GG back to maintain GG’s credibility

I'm also gald they did it but I wish they would have taken a less of a sexual aproach to it meaning it seemed from me it was majority from a sexual place & not an emotional one if that makes sense.
I'm a fan of the original show and I find you definitely have to suspend your expectations to enjoy this show. OG GG was very much a parody and the rich and visual spectacle that you don't get that much of until the end of the new show.
The new version starts off so serious that I had way too much time to complain that half the students looked older than the teachers. I think when they saw the mixed rating they began to pivot. The first half was really weak in my opinion, I almost didn't come back to watch. But the second half is a bit more enjoyable.
I personally did enjoy the guest star episodes, like Georgina's son at Zoya's birthday episode and Blair's parents and Dorota during the holidays. But they shouldn't have to lean on cameos for the whole series to keep old fans interested.
I'll be honest I want to see more of the lavishness moving forward. I feel there needs to be more of a show of exactly why these kids are spoiled and entitled, instead of just teachers complaining that they're spoiled and entitled and we don't actually see that much of it. We actually see Julien working to be an influencer, Audrey dealing with her mother's illness and money troubles, and Max's whole life.
If you ask me the only ones who actually appear rich are Obie and Monet, lol.
as a big fan of the og gossip girl, this show is just so boring to me. I loved the chaotic drama, and if you wanna talk about characters pissing you off but it’s entertaining… meet Serena and the fact she’s always gotta go somewhere LMAO I was actually rooting for the reboot, I was invested in the trailers and thought “this should be interesting” but I was flat out bored until like the third to last episode. I can’t tell you a characters name off the top of my head besides Aki because he’s the only one I liked. He was pretty neutral and I was interested in where his character was going but even then like… it was so boring to me. I feel like the og was aware it was trash and embraced it, and this one is trying to hard to be politically correct and updated with modern technology. I would rate it like a 4/10. I think you should definitely watch the og if you like drama, because it was WILD and so much happened just within the first season.

You needed to watch the first one to understand most of this. The dialogue is 100% apart of the original show. & if the teachers stopped or got caught there wouldn’t be a show. That is the entire plot line.
This is why I’m upset they switched it from a student to the teachers. Such a weird dynamic.

I didn't watch the reboot but from what I've seen is identical to how gossip girl talked in the original.
I feel like if they had made a group of students gossip girl and then somehow some teachers found out but turned a blind eye to it or even fed some information to the students because they were fed up with the rest of the students, that could make sense and be really interesting because then it would be a discussion on ethics, morals, teacher responsibility, etc. But as it is, I feel like its incredibly unbelievable that more than one teacher would do this willing and without reservations.
The identity of GG should have remained a secret for at least a season or two, showing these teachers all the time is hella boring

I think a lot of people who like the original more are probably the same people who are depicted in it. I love how diverse this Gossip Girl is, and I may not be rich but I feel like I can relate to the characters more because they are POC and Queer. When I watched the original GG I just called it WP ish.
I stopped watching after 8 episodes because I didn't care about any character and there are better shows to watch

I honestly disliked the show so much. It gave absolutely no impact. compared to other shows in the same genre this was so boring. Every ep built up to the most anticlimactic ending , like where is the real drama and tension. it felt like the writers were confused about their own characters. The stakes need to be pushed up. Some of the acting was very off an didn't give petty friends. it felt corny and hollow esp compared to old GG. I watched 4 seasons of OG and the entire of this one and the difference is crazy. The new one had such high hopes and fell flat. Also they need to be dressed to the 10sssss as wealthy modern kids in NY. All the inspiration and designer fits we have on insta and Tiktok ...the GG girls did not eat. euphoria is right there for how to do drama and insanity so they need to take some notes. id give it a 3/10. pointless

I was about to stop watching the show before seing this. I mean Gossip girl's identity being teachers feels so unrealistic to me in so many way not to mention how wrong it sounds. I don't particularily like any character but the overall was good, cringe but since I didn't have any expectations of the reboot I wasn't let down by them haha. First of all, the diverse cast would make me watch any show really, so good move. Obie and K were the worst for me, K is just overral super annoying and I couldn't stand her. Obie is just and entiteled white kid that expect people to be his way and that's about it. Not to mention dating sister .. gives me the white guy in shining armor wanna be but there is no armor and no charm.

As a fan of the OG GG, I actually enjoyed the reboot a lot. ofc, there is a lot that needs to improve (and I hope it does for the next season) but generally they managed to include iconic things from the original and make it modern really well to me.

As another OG fan i tried to go in watching it as its own entity and doing that really helped my watching experience because nothing is going to replace the Serena Blair rivalry in my eyes. I think it was very entertaining and it gave the same vibe as the original series but with its own identity. I don’t consider it a reboot but as it’s own show because it has the same qualities but not the same feeling as watching the old series. I love both but nothing will replace the original series
You can just tell how miserable there teachers are by the way they obsess and push their way into these students lives. They gotta permanently get off the screen
the voice over in the background of the show was a staple of the original show, which is why it is featured in the new version. usually the voiceover was whatever the post on the gossip girl website was. also it’s voiced by kristen bell not the girl who plays kate lol

I like the show, i even waited for the 2nd half, The only problem i had is they are lacking of glamor, I mean its new york! Wheres the elite billionare rich shit they are describing?? I dnt feel it. Emily in the paris can have the glamor of paris but why cant they?? FR the show looks like the squatter of new york.
I just think the acting was really bad. Thomas played Max well and did what he could with the content they gave him. But, personally, I think the best piece of acting was during Santacon when Zoya, Julien, and Obie are in Obie’s car and that dude smushes his stomach against their window. Zoya let’s out the most outrageous scream and it had my sisters and I laughing for 10 minutes straight.
I don’t care enough to those characters to care enough…after watching 1st ep…I’m done with the series and back watching the original Gosship girl.
honestly i didn't like the original all that much...i stopped by like season 2. the "gossip girl voice" is actually the same actress (kristen bell) who narrated the original. it was the same sort of thing where you'd hear gossip girl narrating the posts.
as for this reboot.....hm....i found it to be worse lmaoo. i probably should have expected that feeling but yeahhh. somehow it took me forever to get through the first 6 episodes, i really didn't like the pacing. it felt so rushed to me.

lastly, i found these characters to be baseless...like wherrrre was the development?? literally all of them are the same exact people as they started out as....

Yeah but we only get 12 episodes to establish EVERYONE. So I could cut these characters slack until season 2 to see if they’re better fleshed out. I thought the chuck character was an improvement. 🤷🏼♀️ but yeah original GG s1 is royalty imo afterwards discardable

As someone who originally liked the show I was very disappointed. The fact we know who gossip girl is and on top of that it’s the FLIPPING TEACHERS. Honestly that those two things ruined it for me. Like...it sucks like I wish I could enjoy this show. I wanted to like is so bad but I just can’t. Also the original soooo much better like seriously.
I tried watching the original gg so many times and could never make it past season 1 but I kinda like the new gg even though it’s kind of ridiculous.
The narration is honestly the most iconic part of the show. It is annoying to a certain degree BUT in the original, because we never know who gossip girl is in the series finale it makes the narration funny. Like something crazy will happen in the episode and then gossip girl sends out a text and you're left wondering which one of you are gossip girl. The reboot showing who GG is from the start is where they messed up.
I didn't hate it, but I felt like it took too long to get to any point. Like, more than half of the episodes seemed to be just introducing the characters and their lives while nothing happened.
You have Audrey and Aki, and their relationship just takes so long to get to the point of them realizing they want Max to join the relationship, they stall so much with no build-up, no tension, they just keep avoiding each other a lot of times.
You have this fight going on between Julien and Zoya that makes no sense because they like each other and it's other people that keep creating drama, and they repeat this for the majority of the episodes.
Zoya's relationship with Obie also makes no sense to me, because you see them actually talking once or twice and then they just also avoid each other or get mad at each other for no apparent reason. It just seems like an obvious way to keep the tension between the sisters but none of them seemed to actually like Obie.
I think they could have fast-paced a lot of plot points to get to some actual plot lines.

I loved the original Gossip Girl and it's one of my favorite shows, but this new Gossip Girl is not bad. It is not as good as the original and in the beginning, I felt like it was kinda slow, but it grew on me. I wished the characters were more likable. At the end of the season, it was hard for me to find anyone to root for because I just felt like everyone was terrible and selfish. Like in the original they weren't the best of people either, but they had some likable qualities that made me root for them, but this new Gossip Girl does not have that. Also, I thought it was interesting having the teachers be Gossip Girl, but I hope it does not last for the entire show because it's just creepy. There for sure needs to be some changes and improvements moving forward with this show, but overall it's not bad and I did enjoy it. Thanks for your reaction and your commentary!

thomas is the only good actor there. The rest of them delivering their lines are so cringe. As an OG fan, I could see certain moments that were trying to recreate the old show but came across very half done and cheesy. I don't feel these rich people brokenness on the reboot, I just hate them. Luna and Monae are superior than the old show's minions (or julian dare I say), they are actual individuals with their own lives and unique set of characteristics, they deserve more on the show!
This is an entirely different show from the original. However, PLEASE watch the original because the drama is worth the commitment.

The original is deff. better than the new one. the original gave us DRAMA. like juicy, malicious, heartbreaking, drama. I LOVED to watch that mess and drama lol. the downfall of the old one was that it was an all white cast....lol. BUT this reboot is great because its so inclusive. but i will say that I wish that maybe they didn't introduce all of the inclusivity in season 1. like we got to see as the show went on. because then it just reminded me of how political and politically correct the world has gotten, it felt super influenced by the news, and politics. The new kids are beautiful but just kinda mean. I also dont like how obsessed the teachers are with the students.... i just....ugh. I kinda feel like it throws things off. Overall though i love it. i recommend watching the old one though. it really is THAT good. and it will help understand where the gossip girl voice comes from lol. PLUS they were using sidekick cell phones and flexing it like it was the greatest invention of all time just a VIBE lmao
i’m so mixed with the political side of things for the show. like i think it’s good that shows with younger casts include politics when it makes SENSE with the storyline. however with this one it just felt very unrealistic that all of these ultra rich people were “politically correct”. it came across as being preachy at points, which again made sense for oboe and zoyas characters but tbh i can’t see the other characters being (for lack of a better term) as progressive or compassionate as they were at points if that makes sense? also i deff agree with you that the og is better. i much preferred the campiness to this more serious take. definitely had its issues though with diversity, and honestly chucks character as a whole💀

I like this Gossip Girl as a stand alone it's great but I do gotta say I LOVED!! The og Gossip Girl too like it was just MESSY & you understood that these people were terrible people & they were all toxic for eachother (cuz the shit they all did to eachother👀) & the first 10 minutes of the first episode is probably one of the best 10 minutes of a first episode in TV history like so much drama was going on it was crazy! which is why I don't understand why the new one took so long to get messy if that makes sense but it was good!

I have not watched this because a) loved the original series so much I did not want it to get ruined and b) the backlash that it got.
While the original was far from perfect, I was invested in the characters. Blaire is still a favorite. I have a love/hate relationship with Dan. I still like Nate and Eric even if they weren’t my favorite characters.
I liked the character growth some of the characters had that allowed me to remain invested.

I agree that the old GG and reboot are two distinct shows (even though the new one does contain a few nods to the OG: like the teacher mentioning Nate, Nelly Yuki's reappearance and Milo getting into trouble (just like his mama Georgina predicted...totally here for it!). I love the OG for the escapism and feeling like I'm a fly in the wall of this rich upper east side new york. There was also more drama and the overarching love story between Blair and Chuck was the true gem of the series. I feel like the whole Aki and Audrey thing tries to recreate that by gen z'ing it up to make it more relevant to today's sexually fluid world. I don't love it to wanna watch it every year like I do the old GG, but maybe season 2 will change that. Until then, XOXO. lol :D
