I was very fortunate to test ride the ‘all new upgraded 2021’ Triumph Bonneville 1200 Speedmaster and give my honest first ride opinion.
(Thanks Triumph) would highly recommend a test ride!

Bought a 2022 a week ago today. I've got only 50 miles on it (80 kilometers for you blokes). It's my first bike since 1972. It took all of 5 minutes to get a decent feel for what I hadn't done in about 48 years. Since finding you on the Tube, I'm able to ride vicariously during office hours. 😄
Nice one Phil you’ve got yourself a cracking machine there! Enjoy 👍
One year on, how are you finding it?
I believe Triumph Speedmaster is the most beautifully designed / best cruiser out there :)
Lovely to ride too! 👍
I've ridden the Speedmaster twice and if I was going to change anything it would be the foot controls from forward to the mid controls, same as the Bobber. The beach bars are lovely and perfect for the cruiser style. You get used to them very quickly and once tried, I doubt you will want to change them. Not only is it one of the best looking bikes made today, it also rides beautifully too...
Hi Graham yes an absolute beauty to ride isn’t it! I actually quite like the foot forward riding tbh I’m still yet to test the bobber. Take care Jake.
@@RiderReviews It certainly is a beauty to ride. The Bobber is more of a focused ride. It's more taught, immediate and direct. Its good fun but I would take the Speedmaster if I had to choose. I am also waiting to try out the new Harley Davidson Sportster S when it becomes available to ride at dealers.
After 30 yrs foot forward worried me a lot. Within 5 minutes it’s fine except pulling away. I still find myself looking for the mid pegs if I’m not concentrating. It’s really comfortable.
@@paulprice107 hey its been a year since your imput but gotta ask about the forward controls how tall are you? I'm concerned about being stretched out
.
i's like to have more forward like a cruzer
It’s such a beautiful bike. My eyes are just drawn to it. I feel like a boy with a crush.
It certainly is!
Took one for a test ride yesterday...very impressed and I'm gunna be pulling the trigger on one ver soon. Great torque and slow speed stability is just effortless.
Great choice Barry!
Just bought mine 2 weeks ago, waiting for delivery at the end of the week, meanwhile I watch all the vids on RUclips❤️
Exciting times!
Just bought my local dealership’s ex-demo saving a fair bit on the rrp. Pick it up middle of January and can’t wait. Your video review pushed me into action after swithering for a couple of months. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Nice one Alexander superb machine! And it’s good to hear you grabbed a saving too. Cheers Jake.
Sir pls do ride in city conditions too,as m abt to book here in bombay/India
Picked one of these up in April 2018. Never looked back 13,000 miles+
Excellent choice Trevor! Great machine.
Very good review, lots of information included👍
The Speedmaster is on my shortlist for my next bike, but so is the Harley Standard……both great looking bikes.
Thanks glad you enjoyed the review! 👍
Bought mine yesterday. Smooth as glass after coming off a Harley Low Rider.
Nice one great bike!
I’ve got one on order. Got to wait nearly 3 months so must be a popular bike. Can’t wait to get out on the road
Nice one Arthur, exciting times!
It’s worth the wait sound alone is awesome.
I saw one of these at the Triumph dealership. They look beautiful.
Lovely aren’t they Rachel.
I’m test riding one back-to-back with a T120 on Wednesday. Looking forward to it. Good review.
Nice one you’ll love it ! Cheers Jake.
I used to own an America, 850cc's. This is only 15kg heavier at 1200cc's!
I WANT one!
Hello really enjoy the review and the scenery for the ride. The Speed Master is in my top three for another bike as I live 4 miles from Space Coast Harley Davidson Dealership here in Florida and the nearest Triumph Dealer is sadly 80 miles from me. I believe a solid day trip is in store me as I definitely enjoy the style of the SM.
Hi and thanks! Glad you enjoyed the review. Get yourself a test ride you’ll love it.
Yes, my problem also, Triumph dealership not close by. Triumph is making potential dealerships jump through hoops for the " privilege " of being a Triumph dealer, losing sales and allowing Royal Enfield to take their customers. I know this from speaking to former Triumph dealerships in Albany N.Y. area.
But I want a Speedmaster !
@@britbiker9 That Sucks! I hope you can manage a test ride at some point, they really are great machines.
Triumph dealer in Daytona
Awesome looking bike just standing still, love the twin sound I’m off on extendid test ride Monday can’t wait.. great review biker buddy from Birmingham. Jimbo
Nice one enjoy ! 👍
This bike has a lot going for it. It should be a long line of these in the future. Hope it doesn't get ruined by style or technology, which can either be a blessing or a curse.
I currently have a 2016 Bonneville America, and I love it. I have my eye on the new Speedmaster and the new Indian Chief Dark Horse. The Chief is about $4,000 more, but both are absolutely gorgeous bikes.
They certainly are! Grab a test ride you’ll love it. Cheers Jake.
Same situation. 😔😔 it's really hard to select the right one
Great review my friend. Got my 2022 just before winter here in Canada. Looking forward to drive it outside of the garage!
Thanks Stephane! it will definitely be worth the wait. Ride safe Jake.
I had a Speed Twin but it killed my wrists so I changed to the Speedmaster and its the best thing ive done, its fantastic, I had the mid foot control kit fitted which I prefer, its just a great bike.
I do love the speedmaster it’s a cracking bike that one! I’m surprised the speed twin hurt you wrists tbh, I found it a very comfortable all round ride, Cheers Jake.
@@RiderReviews To be fair to the Speed Twin I think its a younger persons bike, in short I was just tovold for it
@@colindebourg9012 There’s just so many great bikes out there atm. It’s just a matter of finding the right one that suites you.
@@RiderReviews Agreed, really enjoyed your review, thanks for posting.
@@robertnutt5285 glad you enjoyed it!
A shame that Triumph couldn't give it nice brushed aluminium twin clocks like their Speed Twin or Thruxton RS. Also Brembo M50s front callipers and a Brembo rear would have been nice. An extra 20 bhp of power like the Speed Twin or Thruxton RS would have been nice too. The engine can easily give it whilst keeping torque high. But still a very beautiful bike indeed. Top marks 10/10 for how it looks.
Totally agree Alex! An absolutely lovely looking machine.
Love this bike awesome burble and great review 👍👌
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Bought one Saturday. Getting used to the forward controls. It’s quite the thing. I’m very happy with it. Very.
That’s great to hear!
It is interesting visual taste is so subjective. I have had my eye on the Bobber for a while now. The Speedmaster doesn’t have that same appeal visually for me. Although the functionality of the pillion and the comfort seat plus the rear shock adjustment is certainly things that have much appeal. Thanks for the video….. living vicariously through videos like this for a while……..🥴😷🥴🙏
Hi I’m still yet to ride the Bobber but loved the speedmaster and it’s comfort. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks Jake.
I pick up my 2021 Speedmaster next week!
Exciting times! Nice one. 👍
Thanks for the review. I think you've pretty much confirmed it... I want one!!
You’re welcome! That’s good to hear.
Have one of these 2016 model had two Americans and thunderbird but this is the best to handle
So many extras 👍
Absolute quality machines and great to ride aren’t they.
@@RiderReviews I am in wa Australia I wish we had them roads twists turns
@@desmcleod2604 Great roads aren’t they with a bit of everything tbh. Cheers Jake.
Absolutely Awesome bike, I've always been a Triumph motorcycles fan, truly love this Amazing Machine, Thanks for sharing!!!
I agree…Your welcome!
Sold my Ducati Monster 821 last weekend to start generating funds for one of these - my other bike's a Yamaha Drag Star 850, so I'm used to cruisers too. The SM looks amazing, can't wait for a test ride. Quick question (maybe silly): how do you lube the chain? Do you need to jack it up and isn't it a bit heavy for that? My Drag Star is shaft-driven, so don't have that problem...
Nice one you’ll love it! I think it has a centre stand but can’t remember so you could oil the chain on the stand. If not maybe roll the bike oiling a section at a time.
Great review, waiting on mine , I’m 6 ft 3 and bought 20 mm riser spacers so bars don’t hit my knees on tight turns, if that doesn’t work I’ll put the t120 bars on , did you have any trouble with that? ✌️
Thanks glad you enjoyed it! I didn’t seem to have a problem with hitting the bars but I’m a shortie at 5 ft 7. Cheers Jake.
I was worried about that too. I’m 6’1 and 115kg and it’s plenty roomy enough and not had bars anywhere knees. One reviewer ha s bas angled down and that caused his problem. I must say the torque is awesome crack the throttle too harshly and it can give you a fright.
Blimey! That’s a bit of a sticky wicket.
Trying to decide which model to order dealer to supply one with.
Like the R E Supermeteor 650 too..👍
Thanks!!!
nice to have dual dispays like the speed twin. Need rpm on the analog; digital is unreadable in sun or with sunglasses on .
Yes I’d agree.
I wish bike manufacturers would not put their name and / or logo all over the bike. Once on each side of the tank is enough for me. I think of the Sportster. There are so many parts on it that say Harley because they have changed so little over the decades. I wish more bike manufacturers would catch on.
I'm looking at one tomorrow, same color scheme too and can't wait! Question though...do you know if those tank decals are removable ? Cheers!
You’ll love it! Not to sure on the decals.
@@RiderReviews cool thanks!
I would say it has some "cruiser-esque" qualities, but it's by no means a cruiser.
A very comfortable Motorcycle! I could ride all day on this one.
Enjoyed watching your test ride. I've got an '02 Bonneville 790cc America that I'm thinking of trading in for this one.
Glad you enjoyed the video Gerry.. I would highly recommend a test ride.
@@RiderReviews Just got mine 2day. Same color as your test bike. Traded in my '02 Bonnie America, enjoying all the new features that my '02 didn't have. Your test ride was an influence on me. Thanks.
That’s brilliant Gerry! Glad the video helped on your decision. Take care Jake.
i would love this bike i think i am in love 😅
It’s a beauty Danny!
@@RiderReviews it sure is a beauty, do you reckon its a good bike for longer rides ?
I’m sure it would be Danny! Very comfortable ride.
Thanks for the responses, i think this is my dream now
@@2770danny1 Treat yourself!grab yourself a test ride.
how about the ground clearance for bumps? looks like it will get hit everytime.
Like most cruises ground clearance is slightly on the low side so it pays to be careful when going over speed bumps.
So far only time I’ve hit it so far was a speed bump in a car park. Suspension is on soft side.
Im currently riding a bandit 1250 but ive been looking for a cruiser/tourer for some time. This could be it.
Would definitely recommend a test ride it’s a great machine,
Hi ! Have you ridden the 2022 T120 Bonneville as of yet. I am ordering one. At the moment I own a 2019 model.
NZ
Hi John it’s on my list to ride, I’ve ridden and reviewed the T100.
The handle bars dont cramp the hands?
I had no issues with cramp at all. Very comfortable and enjoyable ride.
No cramp but big torque and odd grip still catches me out every now and then. It’s all about relaxing ride.
Great bike with plenty of torque! I found it a very relaxing and enjoyable ride.
Very nice bike I would struggle to choose between the Speed twin 1200 and the Speed master 1200 I think I would have to change those bars on the Speed master though nice one . : )
Hi Malcolm I was very impressed with this one tbh an absolute pleasure to ride! I’m still yet to ride the Speed twin but hopefully soon. Take care Jake.
I thought the same in regard to the bars when I first got my 2018 Speedmaster. I'm quite happy with them now. So relaxed, no weight on your arms or shoulders, no reaching. Coincides perfectly with the peg position for someone 5'11'', just need to adapt to it.
Are the tires tubed or tubeless on the speedmaster?
Sorry I’m not to sure tbh.
Love mine since 2.000 kms… :-))))))))
Great bikes Enjoy!
Just brought a new 2024 model. I love it, but I do find my coccyx hurts. Am I sitting wrong
Very nice! I found it very comfortable but maybe try sitting further back in the seat for more support.
@RiderReviews thanks I'll try that. See how I go, well tried it but no better, I should point out I have a collapsed spine, so I think it may not be the seat but my back, so I'm looking for a replacement seat
finding its most difficult to get accesssories; for a 2022 if not impossible; simple like back rack; , crash bars, pannier bars, sissy bar. Buy from Triumph is way pricy. here. When the dealer has no mirrors, no boltsl; how can i expect service when i crash it ?? he says many orderedd from UK
Interesting I’m surprised.
🤙🏼
Harley could learn a lot of things about how to "modernize" his bikes from Triumph...
Fairly decent review , just wondering if you're supposed to be parked in a fire station
Thanks was a perfect place for a walk around, I had permission!
wish they kept the t120 dials?
Would be nice!
Agreed, the single dial is nice and minimalistic, which suits the Bobber very well. But the Speedmaster doesn't have minimalism as a design goal, so the dual dials would have been a good fit on it, I think.
I think so too Patrick.
It looks great in every way but I just don’t think it would be a good bike for someone new to riding. Maybe after some experience.
Yes definitely best to gain some experience first Joe.
