Hello, thank you for your helpful videos. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to make a video about possessive pronouns preceding gerunds? I’m not sure in which situations is acceptable to use an object pronoun instead of a possessive and does it really matter if it’s one form or another? If you could shed some light on this subject I’d be very thankful.
hi it is very helpful ...thanks a ton but I think that there is one mistake with the example which you have given about yours which is second person plural
Claro Neves Hi and thanks for your comment. "My neck is short but the giraffe's one is long / longer" is grammatically correct but it still isn't very natural. It is better to repeat the noun. Best wishes Andrew
Hellow Andrew. I'm Zacarias Linhares, I'm from Brazil. Yours explications was very importants for me. Usually I can't undertand what the people says, but you was very clean to me. Thanks a lot. Sorry for my errors of writing.
I cannot understand the concept of "its", I've found some places stating that there is a possibility of using "its" as a possessive pronouns, and in the same time, I found places telling me that there's no possibility of using "its" as a possessive pronouns
Really good ! I have been learning new things that I did not know. I did not know that there was not a possesive pronoun for It, I thought It was Its but that is wrong.
Hello. Thanks for your comment. I am happy that you like my lessons. Here is the full list: ruclips.net/user/CrownAcademyEnglishvideos Best wishes, Andrew
I found it really helpful !! But when we got to the end I got a bit stuck !! However,I'm doing says this year and your video helped me find out what's a pronoun !!
Possessive Pronouns replace *Possessive adjectives* and *nouns* For eg - That is my(possessive adjective) ball(noun) That is mine(possessive pronoun) or That ball is mine(possessive pronoun) That ball is my (possessive adjective) ball(noun) Now my question is : In the sentence , A friend of mine -- What does this mean ? I mean why doesn't it mean A friend of my friend ? Andrew tells that possessive pronouns are used to show who owns something so we can say a friend of mine to tell that I own that friend , but isn't it weird that how the possessive adj and noun is are replaced For eg -- A friend of mine(possessive pronoun ) changes to A friend of my(possessive adj) friend(noun) ?? plz answer my question !!
So tell me that which possessive adjective or noun does mine is replacing in the above sentence : A friend of mine Or Possessive pronouns not only replace but also tell who owns something that's why we say : A friend of mine . Am I right ?
Hello teacher, firstly, thank you very much for your precious lessons. Please, I have question. In the example of giraffe's neck, can we say: My neck is short but giraffe's one is long, to avoid repeating the name neck? Is that true or false?
Houria Sadou Hi and thanks for your comment. "My neck is short but *the* giraffe's one is long." is grammatically correct but it still isn't very natural. It is better to repeat the noun. Best wishes Andrew

Is it wrong if I say: My neck is short but the giraffe's ONE is LONG/LONGER.

TY for this useful lesson!!
"Friend of mine" is it right and why......
Thank you so much
Since her to hers
So how about his?
Possessive Pronouns replace *Possessive adjectives* and *nouns*
For eg - That is my(possessive adjective) ball(noun)
That is mine(possessive pronoun) or
That ball is mine(possessive pronoun)
That ball is my (possessive adjective) ball(noun)
Now my question is : In the sentence , A friend of mine -- What does this mean ?
I mean why doesn't it mean A friend of my friend ?
Andrew tells that possessive pronouns are used to show who owns something so we can say a friend of mine to tell that I own that friend , but isn't it weird that how the possessive adj and noun is are replaced For eg -- A friend of mine(possessive pronoun ) changes to
A friend of my(possessive adj) friend(noun) ?? plz answer my question !!
"A friend of mine" is simply another way of saying "One of my friends."
So tell me that which possessive adjective or noun does mine is replacing in the above sentence : A friend of mine
Or Possessive pronouns not only replace but also tell who owns something that's why we say : A friend of mine . Am I right ?
