  • If you want to take your swimming to the next level and swim faster, you need to pay attention to your toes!
Ok so you have heard me say this before, that when you swim, you need to have a plantar flexion, which mean that your toes need to be pointing down like a ballerina. But the toes play another very important role while you swim.
Every time you push off the wall you get a boost of speed. Unfortunately, most of us take it as a mini rest, while others take advantage of that and speed up to win the race. The difference is the mindset of pushing off strong at every wall on every swim practice, even if that means getting more tired. And to do that you need to pay attention to the toes.
See the toes and the upper part of your feet are very strong and quick. That is why sprint runners like Usain Bolt run with their forefeet. When you do a flip turn or an open turn, you need to push with the forefoot and you need to do it quickly and strongly. The easiest way for me to do it is to think that as soon as my feet touch the wall I need to point my toes. That gives me a mental muscle mark to push off strong every time. It also puts my ankles on plantar flexion which is essential for a fast tight streamline.
Before you try doing this I need to tell you that if you are not used to pushing strongly with your toes you can get a cramp trying it. So please watch this video:
    • Leg cramps while swimm...
If you want us to give you these kinds of tips in person and specific to your swimming technique, we still have a few spots available for our two swim camps. One is in San Luis Potosi, Mexico and the other is in Phuket, Thailand. One of the questions we have been getting about the camp is if we have testimonies of people that have gone to the camp before. Honestly, we do not because this is our first time doing a week long camp. This is also the reason we are only accepting 15 people because we know we can schedule time with each one and also in small groups to help them improve their swimming according to their goals.
I know it is far away for some people and not everyone can make it, but if you are truly interested click here to find out more about the camps and reserve your spot. We will get in contact with you for any questions you have before you make a decision. If you can’t make it because of the distance or the dates, please leave a comment below to where and when you would want us to make the camps next year.

This is awesome, thanks for all your videos and tips. My son just got back from YNats and wonders about technique tweaks. A camp closer in the US would be nice too. Like Florida. Thanks.

I think you could add one more exercise here for swimmers. I have been noticing a bit of soreness in my achilles tendon, and calf muscles. This, as near as I can tell is from firing off the wall. So, on dry land, I am now going from feet flat on the ground to standing as high on my toes as I can. I will probably supplement this with having my toes on some thing a bit higher than the floor level, like a 2 by 6 inch board. I haven't done this type of exercising in a long time. Jump rope would help, and vertical jumping as well...

I have been putting a lot more effort into firing off the wall, and a stronger dolphin kick. It has payed off. For a 50 sprint, 25 yard pool, I make it out just past the yellow marker ring, and have taken 2 seconds off of my best time for my side stroke, down to :39... Some of that is from more sprint work, but for sure some is from more power off of the wall. For reasons unknown to me, my freestyle time remains the same...

College swimmers normally go three times a week to the gym plus some dry land work outs. But that depends on your goals and level of fitness

    • @viola4022
      @viola4022 5 лет назад

I agree, it really depends. 1 time a week would be enough for 14 year olds. If you’re older than that 3 or 4 times a week is a decent amount
