Wow. Beautiful. I am proud to have been your (online) student for 3 years and counting. You are an inspiring and trusted teacher. Thank you for these performances.
I want to take a moment to let you know how much I enjoy your channel. These last videos you've done are the best classical guitar videos on the Internet. I've watched your channel for several years and followed your development as a guitarist. Good work.
Just so beautiful.....! had Preludio de Sonata IX en Do Mayor replaying...the entire family loved it! As we say in México and here in the USA in Spanish...¡Bravissimo!
Thank you so much for posting this. It's been now 12 years since I have played Weiss minuet 1 from this suite and a bit here and there.... It is so nice to listen it, they all sound so nice and smooth, but It is quite a challenge to play them. You did an excellent work here. And your educational videos are really first class... ( and I am not a person to say/think write that easily.) Keep up with the good work, and all the best friend!!!
Thanks so much! The minuets from this suite are really awkward, maybe harder than the rest of the entire suite! They just don't sit on the guitar very nicely, but with a few omitted notes they can be easy. For live performance I'd just edit it to make it easier.
@@Thisisclassicalguitar you ve played this live Bradford have nt you ? recording in a way is tougher i suppose as any mishap is there forever if not re done , sounds really nice tho
If you happen to take lesson requests, could you possibly cover a Grade 6 RCM pieces called "After the Rain" by Mikhail Sytchev. Second part is really difficult to figure out the fingerings. Would definitely but the Tab version is you transcribed it. There isn't one on the internet.
What is your arranging/transcription process for Weiss's music? Do you read the lute tablature, or work from a 'facsimile' notation edition such as the Intavolatura di Liuto by Chiesa? Thanks, great playing !
Fairly straight forward, I write out a very basic one voice transcription of the lute music with the full range. Then it's just the process of deciding on how many voices and stem directions as well as finding a key and making the bass lines work on the guitar. I try to start from this process and then compare to other editions if they are available but only after so I at least feel like I have worked through the piece. Weiss is tough though due to the range and the quality of the manuscripts.
Is it possible to arrange some of Weiss' late sonatas for guitar (something like Sonata 39 or 46)? From what I've read about this piece, Weiss purposely made it simpler because it was meant for one of his students but it still looks difficult when condensed for a guitar. I can only imagine how good his large-scale works would sound if played as well as this!
I've never heard that about this work, where did you learn that? And yes, I do plan to arrange more Weiss but it's soooooo time consuming due to the tuning and number of strings on Weiss' lute..
@@Thisisclassicalguitar I believe I read it in one of Tim Crawford's articles about Weiss' music. And yeah I fully understand that his works are really hard to satisfactorily arrange for guitar, but this video is a great rendition. Thanks!
Does anyone know in which book the Chaconne in F sharp minor from Weiss is included ? I have searched the whole web and even asked the munich conservatorium if they had any idea. Nobody could help me. It would be much much much appreciated. It is one of my favorite pieces of all time. Look it up on spotify ;D
Well, if you're for a modern edition I believe it's in the Ruggero Chiesa edition "Intavolatura Di Liuto" published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni. It's expensive though. You might find it online at Forest Guitar Ensembles but I can't verify how accurate the scores are yet as I haven't gone over them.
@@Thisisclassicalguitar Thank you so much I will order it tomorrow. And thanks for all your great lessons and resources. I've bought your technique book and in conjunction with your youtube lessons I am really starting to see some progress. And on a sidenote, I hope this is not too personal, you and the classical guitar really saved me. I was in a dark mental spot for years, but since I have started to take musicianship more seriously something changed fundamentally. I go to sleep and actually look forward to the next day and the next practice. So once again thank you many times over that you provide this much knowledge for free. Best of luck to you and your dear ones ! Regards Ceus
Glad the site and channel have been helpful. I try to encourage people to learn to enjoy practicing itself because in the end, that is where the majority of music time is spent.
It almost full size. It's a 630mm scale length with a slightly smaller body as well. More info: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/2018-douglass-scott-classical-guitar/
