- Hey guys, our India has so many cities which are ancient and are historically, culturally and socially very very important. One such ancient city is Nashik.
Here is how we spent our two days here:
Day 1:
We started our day very early by visiting Ram Kund. This is the most important place in Nashik, basically this is the identity of the city. It is known to be as holy as Ganga ghat in Varanasi. People come here from all over the world.
Timing: Open 24 hours and on all days
Nashik is known to be the city of Ram and your trip is incomplete without visiting Kala Ram Temple. It’s a very huge beautifully designed Ram Mandir and a must visit.
Timing: 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Open on all days.
After taking blessings from Prabhu Ram we visited Panchvati and Sita Gufa. This is the place from where Ravaan abuducted Sita Maa. Hence a most important place for Pilgrims. You can visit Sita Gufa which is a very narrow and very small cave.
Timing: 6:15 AM to 8:30 PM, Open on all days.
Then we had a very scrumptious and delicious staple breakfast of Nashik - Misal at Ambika Restaurant. They are serving misal in Nashik from past 50 years and their secret to this yummy misal is their homemade Kala Masala. Would highly recommend this place. It is in walkable distance from Panchvati.
Timing: From Monday to Saturday - 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Sunday - 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
From there we took a walk in Saraf Bazaar. It’s an old jewellery market and has small lanes surrounded with old wooden homes. It’s a very different experience, the place has this old world charm.Market is usually closed on Mondays.
After defeating Mughals, peshwas were ruling the city of Nashik and during that period they built this huge wada, famously known as Sarkarwada. This place has great historical importance. After British colonisation in 1818, Britishers did excavation and found 38 lakhs worth of jewellery from this wada. During our freedom struggle this wada also served as jail for freedom fighters like Anant Kanhere.
Timing: 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Closed on SundaysEntry Fees: INR 10 per person
After walking around the old city, we got refereshed by having favourite drink of Nashik - Pineapple Sharbat at Samarth Juice Centre. It has 4 branch in Nashik but their main branch is in Ravivar Karanja, famously known as RK. It’s in walkable distance from Saraf Bazaar.
Timing: 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Our last stop in Old Nashik was a halwai shop located in Bhadrakali. People of Nashik are hardcore foodie, you will get to eat variety of food in this city. Our family’s personal favourite for sweets is Budha Halwai. They serve world’s best Jalebi and they are also famous for their Khurchan Vadi. Timing: 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM
Nashik is the Napa valley of India because 50% of the wine in India is produced here. There are more than 300 wineries in this region and it is also known as Grape City. You can visit different wineries and take winery tours to understand the process of wine production and take wine tasting session. Our personal favourite winery is Sula Vineyards. Whenver we are in Nashik, we visit this place atleast once.
Timing: 10:30 AM to 11:00 PM
Entry Fees: INR 600 for weekdays and INR 1000 for weekends.
We ended our day 1 with watching a beautiful sunset at MTDC Boat Club which is located in the backwaters of Gangapur Dam. A very beautiful & serene place. You can even do boating here during non monsoon months.
Timing: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Entry Fees: INR 70
Day 2:
Yesterday we had Misal in one of the old restaurants in old Nashik, but today we went to have Misal to a modern & fancy place which serves delicious Misal under the grape plantation - Grape Embassy.
Timing: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
After having a yummy breakfast we drove for one hour to reach Sinner. When people come to Nashik they only think about going to Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga but there is one ancient Shiva Temple in Sinner which is an architectural master piece and is more than 1000 years old.
Name of this temple is Gondeshwar Mahadev temple, built in Panchayatan style during the Yadava period.
Timing: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
From Gondeshwar temple we went to spend some time at Windmills farm, it is 15-20 mins away from the temple and very peaceful and beautiful location. If you have time then You can visit during sunset.
Open 24 hours.
It was lunch time, so we went to eat some authentic khandeshi food at Jai Malhar Khanawal. It is primarily known for their Mutton curry but we had ordered one Mutton Thali and one Bhaji Aamti.
Timing: 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM, 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM
There is a very unique musuem which has collection of Minerals & Rocks from all over the world and even from Moon & Mars. Name of the musuem is Gargoti Musuem and it is just 5 mins away from Jai Malhar Khanawal.
Timing: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Entry Fees: INR 100
Lastly, We ended our day by attending Godavari Aarti at Ramkund.
