Having a poncho on your person or in your car is in our top "don't get caught away from home without it" list. It's one of those items that has a laundry list of uses, making it a gem of lightweight backpacking piece of kit as well.
I use the hood as a pocket to keep my poncho into, and the adjusting string to hang it off my belt [or gear] I cut sticks on the spot for pegs and whatever... but a poncho really is the most versatile piece of gear... I always keep a mylar poncho with my wallet in one of my back pockets [even when I carry my good poncho with me...] Mylar is magic!

Idk how I got along without a poncho this long.
