One of the greatest drummers on the planet. And an incredible vocalist as well. He sounds extremely healthy and grounded and I wish him every bit of success.
Thanks for posting this Mitch! I met Dino back in 2012 before the Journey show in Norfolk, VA. He is amazing, friendly and down to earth. Glad that I had a chance to take a photo with him. He is a class act. Nobody on this earth is perfect and it's good to see that Dino is putting god and his family first!
Deeno, keep on drumming bud, I love seeing Steve back with journey but miss seeing you in there just as much. good luck to you and most importantly, God bless!!
Mitch, Deen Castronovo is not "damaged goods". Considering all of the musicians that have been down and out and are still down and out, if they can keep a gig job, Deen will be back, no problem! Deen's back on the right path! Anybody would love to have Deen Castronovo as their drummer!!! Best to you, Deen! See you soon...somewhere!
Deen is an excellent musician. He has been blessed with an incredible talent for music! I am glad he is clean now. We loose too many musicians to drugs!
Hi Deen, nothing more than the best of luck to you mate. I was fortunate enough to play a short tour opening up for Journey in Germany, 2007 and seeing you at work ( I remember your road mananger being confused when i asked him if you could sign my Cacaphony CD ;) Well anyway, wishing you all that you wish for. cheers
God has blessed you and I am thankful that you have acknowledged it. You are such a gifted and talented human. I had the pleasure of meeting you once ( I repaired some plumbing at your place ). You were so open and personable and I enjoyed our brief encounter. God will continue to bless you because of your love for Him.
Deen, you are an extremely talented musician & amazing person. God will bring you through this - keep the faith and stay true to him and yourself. I was so glad to find this interview and hear how strong and healthy you are. I hope I'll get to see you out there again, someday soon but not before you're ready. Take care & God bless!
I've been a fan since The Bad English days. Deen seems to be such a down to earth humble guy. Is just so sad what happened and In not making no excuses for him but it seems not to be him to do what he did. I'm still a fan and always will be. I wish all the best to Deen.
Deen Many years ago I was a kid then I came across an album by the Wild Dogs Reign Of Terror and the drumming totally blew my mind never forget it for it's time it was unreal I followed you're career ever since Good Luck to you on You're sobriety quest you're a great drummer
We are proud of you Dean. No question, you are our home boy. The greatest quality in a man is when he can admit his mistakes. Greetings from the Flats Gang. Go in peace brother
Great interview Mitch! Deen, you sound great and happy! So proud of you. Keep up the good work - I'm so looking forward to seeing what comes next for you! Love ya mucho - Lisa
Deen If there's anything thing I take way from your courageous confessions in this interview, it is a sense of gratitude. Anytime Ive gone down that spiral of destructive behaviour it was always tied to my own lack of gratitude. Your love for, and gratefulness to your friends, family and the music community are obvious and genuine. Be well, and continued success in all you undertake. OD
I am amazed with you Deen, thank you for pulling together, I was trying to tell you from the last time I seen you at the moda center when I was ushered out of the arena because your security guy was protecting you from your past.. At that time I was clean and sober for 8 years I wanted to share that with you. Cause your worth it as a friend and a fellow drummer. That yes you can do it and stick to it.. It's easy after your done with it. Hopefully we can always remain friends .I love ya man always.
I remember when he once said, journey is a brotherhood not just about who gets more money. Now that he mentioned the band took care of him (financially ) that's really a brotherhood
Hi Deen you are the best drummer and singer I have ever heard!! Keep your head up and take 1 day at a time. If you are ever near South Central Va, look me up
Mr. Castronovo. God Bless you, I wish you the best of luck in your battle and come back. You are a gifted musician and a great person. I had the opportunity to see you play at Pechanga years ago. I was lucky enough to watch from the stage in front of Mr Schon beside your sister and other guests in the audience. We were all so proud of your performance. She is an awesome person too. You are blessed with the energy of those who surround you, never ever forget that. The show that I saw and the great time that I had I will never forget. You can do it. I look forward to the chance to see you perform again. It will always be a tough challenge, but you can do it. I salute you for your bravery and for having the courage to come out and talk about your struggle and share it with the world.
Good luck and God Bless Deen. Wish you all the best! Hope this one year turns into ten, then into twenty, onto twenty-five, which will turn into thirty years. Know that all you have to do is to look up for your Strength.
All the best to you, Deen. Although this interviewer tried to pull you down, you stayed strong to your principles!! Bless you and your wonderful future, Mr. Deen!!!
Deen I wish you the best for your future, stay strong you are a great musician and I hope you will rise like a phoenix. I send all good wishes to you my friend. Greetings from Dortmund Germany 😊
Deen is involved in quite a few projects since leaving Journey. He allowed himself one year to recover with his family after his arrest in 2015. He picked up the sticks some time the Fall in 2016. He is now the LEAD singer of a band called Revolutions Saints with Jack Blades from Night Ranger and Doug Aldrich of the Dead Daises (ex-Whitesnake). Their Debut Self Titled Album was released in February, 2015. If you all love Deen's voice as much as I do, go buy the CD from Amazon or in iTunes. It is FANTASTIC!! Deen also stepped in and drummed for Kelly Keagy of Night Ranger while Keagy was recovering from Heart Surgery (May 2017) He also played drums and backing vocals for Jonathan Cain's Christian Rock Album called 'What God Wants to Hear' which was released in October 2016. There is a new Revolution Saints album coming this Fall, 2017. You can follow Deen and his shenanigans.....lol......on Twitter @DeenTheDrummer I’M SO PROUD OF YOU DEENO!!! ~Robbie
Deen is one of the best drummers I've seen...Truly talented..but a human being which means that has the right to make mistakes like we all do..but that doesn't changes the heart inside the Man..Go Deen!..You can do it!!!
Wow i salute you JOURNEY BAND that all the while although Deen was not in your band you're still helping him. GOD BLESS you guys hope Deen will be back in your band
Deen, so very proud of ypu. I, 1 week ago checked myself into a alcohol treatment centerl for alcoholism. I know it is time. 30 years of being so selfish and self destruction is way too much. Goodluck, God takes care of those with your brand of talent, and Love. God bless, you are so very unique. David Tabler.
Look where is this great guy now back to Journey ( his family ). i like his perception in life... he is right when the universe conspire with you... you cannot do anything about it. I so love how Deen sees life.. hats off to you..Great FAITH in GOD who changes your life 😍
I have 2 sons Kris 22 and Brett 20. Divorced as soon as they were out of highschool and am a bassist that plays lead , keys and most brass horns and such a huge fan of Journey and like you I love to sing and no better coach than putting on Perry. I love and respect your candor as a Christian and how honest and humble you are. Wonderful to hear your inspiration and you are now in my prayers brother. Peace and blessings to you and your sons
From your insane drumming with Tony MacAlpine to Bad English and Journey. Love you man. I still crack up when i hear you sing, you are so freakin' great, we had no idea you could sing like that and we all were so blessed to hear it. Still They Ride is my favorite of your vocal tribute to SP.. Peace out my bro.. Yours in Christ
Deen sounds great! I have high hopes for a return to the top for him.. My bassist has struggled in the past with similar things. I've know him since we were teenagers in the 90's.
Yeah Deen Castronovo without this things happens he is one best drummer in the planet talenwise hes a big contribution on journey band i think hes a good man but sometimes we tend to go in wrong way of life but i thinks he can go straight just pray deen and have faith
So happy to know that bandmembers Neal and Jonathan are good friends took care of you. I'm happy that i was not wrong to admire Journey good musicians, good friends. Christians in action. Thank you.
Deen, saw U with Journey 2014 & then NO Deen with Journey in 2016 & missed U so much. I have your new album with the new band (Excellent). I’ve been an abused wife in every way & he took his life😢 Thank GOD your here & took care of yourself & thought of your kids. Love ❤️ U & wish the best to U & your loved ones. U still will be missed in Journey‼️🙏
Deen, my man! this is so inspiring, you have the right atttitude of a man and his peace within hisself. Thank God daily where He's leading you wherever it si. be discerning and fight the good fight of faith! man has always had the sin problem and we wrestle with it everyday. ,but Jesus is always there to help pick us up! have a continued realationship with Him and he will bless you amen. We do miss you playing with my favorite band since I first heard that Infinity album lay on that turntable. miss when you sang too! great voice bro! keep on rejoicing in victory and dont stop believing amen!
We all have made mistakes. You have lived it. God is amazing. Im glad to here your story thank you for being honest. Deen you've helped my life's out look.my life has changed a lot sense i met you. I have 5 kids and had to change and your story has been inspiring. I think that this is a blessing for the bands and a lot of people. Keep your head up you helped a lot of people keep being strong.
Deen you belong back with journey not the same without you. can't even hear the drums at live shows. vocals are missed, and drums big time! won't see journey again without you. Good luck love
Let's dispense with pretentious formalities, Dean is a class act! He's on a short list of drummers that could fill Steve Smith shoes. Drummers are a different breed and most of us have been playing since childhood. It has nothing to do with being famous but has everything to do with being a successful musician and being able to continue playing in a band. Dean has done that and has played with some awesome bands. I wish him the best and I look forward to seeing and hearing him with the "The Dead Daisies".
I really aprechiate the honesty and repentant heart D. shows. My question (without being judgmental). Did D. drop his beliefs or took some sort of break from them, being bored with church? I went the same way. I did no drugs nor alchohol, but I found myself "locked in church" and had no life outside. Starting to play with other musichians in the world didn't really help, although I was musically stimulated, my spirit did get what it needed. I thank God (Yahweh) today that he gave me a second chance. As christians we need to live in the world and not of the world. Thank you.
First off, Deen is a super nice guy! Very generous person. Also, very human! Come off the road...spoke to another pretty big drummer from a guy mentioned in this interview who said the same. When the spot light is off is when the darkness comes in. Bored. Life too slow. Hips and Journey not a good combo! lol He has "addict energy" for sure...I hear and feel it with him, did back in the late 80's as well. He needs accountability and will be fine! On the road, must have someone with him...and he is teachable. Hot Cheri is AMAZING!
that would be nice if that would happen but I'm not sure about Steve coming back ever, but Steve moves as his life moves, moment by moment...so we shall see. That would be awesome!
....Rusty chops??????? LMFAO!!!! so he says!! I could have lived better as a drummer if I had his "rusty chops" LOL...if you have no heard Dean playing, listen then imagine what a rusty chop from that would sounds like! -- Dean Castronovo has a Lion's heart, literally, (no, I do not know him personally but he is genuine and open, it shows, it overflows out of him in his playing and the way he talks and thinks better now he has reclaimed his head back!) strenght will never be an issue for guys like him, which helps to be reborn from the ashes, just like a Fenix! I love it when he says if he will not play again it is not the end of the world; take life as it comes at you, nothing can be forced; I can not even compare to Mr. Castronovo in drumming levels but I too used to play in bands for years, all covers, more than 30 years, then pay started to get lousy, less than $100 per street gigs, then $75.00, then one night I was told there were gigs lined up with this place but the "share" was only about $55.00 per night! AND a 4 set night. I had it then, I could have paid $55.00 just for someone to move and set them drums! but that was not the worst either; another time back in 2010 in Las Vegas I was offered $35.00 per night for 2 sets! so it was the end of the road for me in the street clubs venues, it was 2002 when all started to fall appart, then I had my family, no more nights out, slowly the night and glamours of small clubs stages which I was so used to since I was 16 faded away and I dedicated myself to learn new things, computers, picked up in carpentry work which I did since I was really young too and love doing and you know what? it all filled that hole not being able to drums for whatever reasons left in me, it was not like playing them drums but it is not the end of the world at all. Now my kids are older, I am back drumming at home. I do not play with anyone, I do not care about making money playing, now I do enjoy it, even when it cost me a small fortune that thankfully my non musician job can affords me, then I play all them covers I did again, I play with any "band" virtually that I would like and I am happy doing so; could I be happier if I was playing live and making a living out of it? Absolutely, but like Dean says; it is not the end of the world; I think it all opens a new world that we all can equally enjoy! I am happy he can recover and that he is doing well. Lots of people, more than you can even count or be aware of, are rooting for you Mr. Castronovo. May God always guide you and reenforce your natural strenghts! Rock on! The best to you in your life and future endeavors from Las Vegas!
I wish everyone thought jail was scary and learned to stay out once they went in. I have a son and brother who think being there is a stay at a damn hotel.
Dante Salazar I agree with you...the narrative there is Smith plays with more dynamics...as Cain said “we have our orchestra back..” But I kind of love Deens playing style for Journey...
One of the greatest drummers on the planet. And an incredible vocalist as well. He sounds extremely healthy and grounded and I wish him every bit of success.
Journey isnt the same without you, your brothers miss you... i miss you, love you and all the best to you. God bless you!
Deen is an inspiration as a drummer and as a person. May his recovery go well for the rest of his life. We love ya bro.
This is awesome- thank you🤘🤘🤘

@@justinjay2005 So cool he's now back in Journey, and clean and sober for 7 years. Praying for him to stay on that road.
Hopefully back with journey
I do hope Deen gets back with Journey if Steve decides to go back to playing his Jazz music. We miss you Deen....
Glad you are doing so well.
Deeno, keep on drumming bud, I love seeing Steve back with journey but miss seeing you in there just as much. good luck to you and most importantly, God bless!!
Tremendous testimony. God has empowered Deen to recover and follow Him to this day 6 years later!
He's a drummer. I lead singer yes, a guitar player/songwriter yes, but everyone tends to piss on drummers.
.......but I am rooting for him
Deen is an excellent musician. He has been blessed with an incredible talent for music! I am glad he is clean now. We loose too many musicians to drugs!
I didn’t like that line either...it was overly insensitive 🥵
Hi Deen, nothing more than the best of luck to you mate. Everybody needs somebody sometime!
Best drummer
....Rusty chops??????? LMFAO!!!! so he says!!
Wild Dogs was the best band Deen was ever in. from 1982-'85, nobody could touch them live.
Those are fun, happy memories @ Starry Night/Roseland in Portland, Oregon♥

Hardline - DOUBLE ECLIPSE 1992 Rocks!!!
I wish everyone thought jail was scary and learned to stay out once they went in. I have a son and brother who think being there is a stay at a damn hotel.

Rev Saints 2 is going to be great!!!
Deen and Arnel should start their own band.... Just say'n
Didn't know Deen is a person who speaks that much.Hope this life-up was not the reason that he MAY still uses as he often, too often use "you know".
we all make bad choices in life everybody can do the wrong thing and end up in jail nobody amune
🥁
deen castronovo is a better drummer and vocals for journey, steve smith has no energy playing drums and not doing vocals
Dante Salazar I agree with you...the narrative there is Smith plays with more dynamics...as Cain said “we have our orchestra back..” But I kind of love Deens playing style for Journey...
Money and fame aren't anything without your health and spirit
