    @commandersem Yes it is waterbased clay being careful not to let it rest on the helmet too much and covering the helmet with plastic wrap but you need to make sure the paint or clear coat is completely set or cured first.

    @katkarot Hi, thanks for the interest. The average starting price for me to make a two piece silicone matrix mold with a fiberglass jacket is $1,200.00 You can find cheaper mold makers I am sure.The silicone is evacuated so there is little to no bubbles more on the no bubble side. If you or anyone else is interested in having a mold made please leave a message at 951-943-1217 or Email me (Ken) at finegore@aol.com
    Thanks

    The materials are not cheap. This is easily a few hundred dollars in materials that he is using in this video. On top of that, it can be a labor-intensive, and very detail-oriented process that takes a level of expertise most hobbyists don't possess. Long story short: Matrix molds especially are extremely complex and take a skilled hand to make.

    @animalgang13 U absolutely do not have to have a mold realese agent! It is optional, some people use it for an easier pull. :)

    nice Ken. So how did you pressurize the blue silicone rubber down the paper tube? How did you get it to cover the model without any surface bubbles?

    • @eyesmadeeasy
      @eyesmadeeasy  7 лет назад

      Thank you! I I de-gass all my silicone in a vacuum chamber and the tube is always at least 10'' above the mold and I usually have at least 500 grams in the tube for pressure.

  • @sm870621345
    @sm870621345 11 лет назад

    It looks to me like it is what people refer to as a "rondo" mix. It's a mixture of bondo and polyester fiberglass resin.

    • @eyesmadeeasy
      @eyesmadeeasy  7 лет назад

      In the movie business we call it Bondoresin

  • @eyesmadeeasy
    @eyesmadeeasy  13 лет назад

    @coldin71201 I use a pressure pot I purchased on Ebay. When you DeAir the silicone you don't have to worry about bubbles. I also place the tube in a spot where the silicone flows down to the low spots and then rises to fill any cracks and crevices. If you have any questions email me at finegore@aol.com

    Amazing work Ken and thanks for sharing your incredible workflow. Could i ask you, at 3:05, what is that on top of the clay? Is that just a first layer of resin acting as a gelcoat for the mother mold or is that a release agent of some sort between the clay and fiberglass jacket?
    Thanks again!

    • @eyesmadeeasy
      @eyesmadeeasy  3 года назад

      It is a mixture of resin and Bondo car filler as a gelcoat. You can use this as your surface coat against a moist surface and it will still set up otherwise you need to seal the heck out of it as you probably know fiberglass and polyester resin do not do well against moist surfaces

    Hey, I´d like to make a mold from my Ep III Clone Helmet but I´m not quite sure how I could do this. I read some instructions, of course but I don´t know how if I need to put a mold release agent onto the helmet that it won´t stuck in the silicon.

    • @eyesmadeeasy
      @eyesmadeeasy  2 года назад

      It’s always safer to use a mold release when in doubt.

      Depending on the complexity of the mold no less than $500.00 and the client would have to buy all the materials. If it was going to take me more than a few days I wouldn't do it

    what happened from 2:50 to 3:00 ? what did you do with the clay

    • @eyesmadeeasy
      @eyesmadeeasy  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Biene3.1, The clay was covered with bondo resin a mixture of bondo and fiberglass resin. This is used as a surface coat instead of gel coat since it is just a jacket and not a sculpture. A few reasons we do this is the clay used is water based and fiberglass will remain tacky. Bondo resin will cure quickly against the water based clay. Sorry it took so long to respond.
