Coming in on second serve every time. Crazy. Today, you’ve got one first serve to come in on and volley, and that’s rare. Today it’s serve plus one with a put away ground stroke or a third then being the volley.
Interesting. Mind me asking how old you are? These are two of the Giants of the game, that made the sport what it is today. I'd love to know what is more "exciting" in today's tennis? Tennis was waaaay more popular world wide in the 70s, 80s & 90s, into the 2000s. It's dying today. Crowds are thin even at the major tournaments, and the game is dying at the grass-roots level. Not many people play today. You're in the massive minority thinking tennis is better now than it was in decades past. The facts prove otherwise.
Super impressed with strong serves of both these men. Excellent placement and exceptional volleying with those vintage racquets. Tennis should go back to wood. The sport is dying with the advanced technology. Baseball didn’t change the bat. Football still using old time leather.
Almost. No wood.... Graphite.. (tennis elbow) BUT.... Racket heads should be the size of these wooden rackets. Make the game for skilful and not relying on size and power and excessive spin.
True.....they don't do Pretty Prince waving pirouettes around the court after a victory. They don't look up at their boxes desperately seeking emotional support after every point like the players do today. Todays players are a bunch of attention whore losers.
the way the game was played was so graceful, tacticful in those days

I'm glad these days are over. Tennis is so much more exciting these days. Even the WTA matches are better.

I think PBS used to air tennis back in the day
You watch these guys play and you're watching real men play. Not the girly men playing today

Newk was prevented from the chance to win Wimbledon 4 years in a row due to the contract and boycott disputes of 1972/73.
