Love, love your sweet smile and I laugh when I read all the wants for a sweet Miah in their life. I'm 83 and it's probably best I stick with a small garden. Cloning an 80ish Miah is a fantasy for me. I would be looking for a G Grandpa. Keep up you sweet spirit and I must say I love seeing your children helping you.
I'm going to add the Garden Claw Gold (the blue version with gold bottom and curved handles, its adjustable in height). This tool has been invaluable to me for over 22 years (I've had the same one all that time and have not been nice to it as far as care or use). All of my ground gardens, and gardens for many many others, have been prepped with this tool! It is super easy to use and will cultivate a spot as good, and in some cases BETTER than, a gas rototiller. I kid you not. I'm a small female (5'1) and its easier on my body than fighting a piece of machinery!
I also love my claw .. over 22 yrs as well ... not well looked after but still going strong. My other favourite is the Hori Hori too. Before I had it I used a butcher knife lol
We got a black light after watching your video last year. Found about 15-20 small horn worms last year, saved us a lot of heart ache compared to previous years

We just bought calltle panels online from Lowes and they deliver. I'm in Tennessee. They were the only place we found that did and they are coming today... I am so excited!!! Thank you so much for everything you are doing! You guys have taught so many gardeners so much!

My new favorite tool are the large rectangular plastic cake tops from big Costco cakes. We have slugs and snails, and I have taken to growing flats of tender lettuces in them. I am probably going to use them to start seedlings now (maybe with those grow bags you mentioned), because somehow the snails stay out. At the moment I am working on a kind of combo outdoor kitchen/potting area so I can wash the earwigs off the leeks and chop off the dead parts and roots of whatever before they make it into the house. It's going near the bbq so it can do double duty. Gotta get one of those Hori-Hori knives!
The hori hori is an excellent tool! As soon as I got one I also thought "why doesn't everyone have this? Why isn't this in those basic garden tool kits!?!" it's extremely versatile and digs better than any garden shovel. :)
I have been using another version of your hori hori tool for over 10 years. I stopped using all other garden hand tools once I got that thing. no mater which one you get, you can not beat that tool! it is a must in any garden!
Sooooo, that means "Patent NOT Pending" it has been applied, granted and filed! One of a kind and won't be found on an assembly line! Lol. Great vlog Jess. Don't tell anyone because of "copyright infringement", but I made my own "H-basket" and my own harvesting apron that I call "A Leg Up" because it's a pair of denim jeans cut off at the knees, sewn to a belt, with a rope ran through the belt loops to pull and tie and untie to release the harvest! Lol. Great "conversation piece" and a good laugh. Repurposed and reused. Much Love and God bless.
Did you know that you can go to Walmart and ask the bakery for their left over 5 gallon frosting buckets and they will give them to you.. Thats what we use.. They work great around the house and garden....
I have narrow paths in my garden because I am greedy and want more room to plant. lol I use a lot of 5 gallon buckets great for carrying dirt, mulch, harvest, tools, etc. I also use 3 gallon buckets, they might have them at Wal-mart in the deli department. 3 gallons are great for hanging spray bottles on the side and still have some room to carry things.
Just a tidbit, Be aware that diatomaceous earth will also harm pollinators so be careful where its applied, avoiding blossoms and the top of the plant. It also needs to be reapplied after a rain or heavy dew. Great video jess, I'm going to order that hori hori hand tool for sure!
Had unexpected good luck curing my white-fly problem, with homemade flypaper, from yellow paper strips dipped in equal parts sugar, honey and water melted together. Now I can give my Brussels sprouts another try, and hopefully they won't get infested :)
Thanks for the black light flashlight idea! I use Dawn concentrated dish liquid in a hose end mixer/sprayer bottle and spray my small garden with soapy water once a week. I use it to knock down fleas in the yard too.
Jess, thanks for all the tool tips! Love the Hand tools! Here’s a quick tip for all gardeners that use the t-posts for vertical gardening and fences. I recently bought a few spray cans of gray paint and painted all my t-posts so they blend in with the cattle panels. Love the look of not having all the white tips and different colored post everywhere, just brings it all together 😊
I had a sweet Mike we were together 32 years he did everything for me, then cancer took him from me last September, so when you get the Miah clone send him my way, I could use a handy guy like him. Love your videos!
One of my favorite hand spades is a toy, LOL It's small and sturdy! I too have a Hori Hori and it is a great/verstile tool, I became a REAL gardener when I got my Hori Hori! TY Jess!
I have the same design of dibber, and love using it. Having damaged hands it makes my life so much easier! Another thing that I love are my ratchet anvil pruners for the same reason. Jed takes care of the big stuff, but I can prune my fruit trees with this with no issues at all :)
I have both carts, you have the red, but mine is yellow. I have had that cart for over 15 years. Tires are still good as new, but cart has started rusting. I use it for planting and watering my flowers and veggies. I have had my black dump cart for about 7 years, mostly use it to carry my groceries from truck to the house. Only takes one trip...lol. I love both my carts and use them all the time at 62 years old. Now I have started using my golf cart for these things as well, The carts get kinda heavy when full and trying to pull somewhere. My hori hori knife and Lehman's heirloom hand fork (it was a gift, they are expensive but really well made) are my favorites. I also love my gorilla cart, they can hold a lot of weight. You have convinced me to add cattle panels to my garden this year. I am sadly missing my own Sweet Miah tho.
Those Bootstrap 1020 trays came in handy when I only could use one arm. I am particular about my tools as well. I love tools that have multipurpose so that way I don't have to purchase more tools. I feel in love with the harvesting baskets when I seen you use it last year. Then saw the price and fell out of love with it. lol I going to purchase a blacklight now. I don't think we have a hornworm problem however, better be safe than sorry.
I just got the largest Gorilla cart and fully loaded I can easily pull and dump its contents. I’m 65 and we cultivate and garden on 3 of our 25 acres. When I’m far from the house, I can load up my tools, Kleenex box, 2 thermos bottles, a lawn chair and attachable umbrella for frequent breaks PLUS the materials needed(compost, soil, gravel, and whatever else. I love it and I read over 200 reviews before buying it. Two things to note: Do not damage the box because a few people got one where the bolt holes didn’t line up and they said customer service is “horrible “ so you’re ahead to return it rather than try to get missing pcs. Second, turn the loaded cart in a wide radius so the handles’s axel (?) doesn’t break!
I am currently using my kids little red wagon for my outdoor garden projects. The sides aren't very high so I use free 5 gallon buckets from the local bakery. They are $5-6 to buy around here, plus the lid if you want one. I would really like the gorilla dump cart though. On my Amazon wishlist now ✔
I got those bags off amazon after you spoke about them in a previous video. I love them! I use an empty dog food can to fill each larger one up. I fold it down over the side and fill up. Very easy. I also re use k-cups and place the smaller ones inside of the k-cup for seed starting. this seems to work nice with the small ones, since they seem to keep them from getting too wet. The larger ones i use for up potting and also I use the trays like you or lasagna foil pans. Of course they are all still on my porch, since it is still too cold here. waiting and waiting some more.
Thanks for sharing your experience with tool quality. Typically, you get what you pay for, but I have found a few decent goodies at Big Lots and Dollar Stores. Auctions are a GREAT source for the old, heavy "real steel" that can withstand repeated sharpening and stress.I love the hori hori. I would likely use the blade notch to open "liquid refreshment" for the garden(er). For the compost pile, of course :-)Many thanks for the vid!
Luckily, I saw this video and immediately clicked on the grow bags. One Amazon reviewer mentioned that she can even write on the bag......nice. Another reviewer turns her bags inside out for better stability. Seriously looking at the Hori-Hori; will it make me a Samurai gardener?
Love this! Another idea: periodic videos featuring your “empties”, I.e. seed packets you’ve used all the way up recently. Would you buy them again? Were they empty because they were your favorite? etc.
What you have is a dibbler (with the R). A dibble tool is a long-handled tool used in forestry. Knowing this may make it easier for your viewers to find one for themselves. I have several after I went on a hunt for one some years ago and found them to be entirely unknown in the U.S. Rrrg. In the end, my family kept their eyes open and by then end, I had one from an antique store (my favorite), two wooden ones from a vendor at a Baker Creek festival and another from whoknowswhere. Great video. I have got to get a hoi hoi knife. I have put getting on off way too long. I have my father-in-laws dibbler And I absolutely love my metal cart. I lay a tarp in it to keep soil in it. I may buy a yard bag to use in it as an insert. Hubby is always using the wheel barrow.
Hi Jess, one of my favorite garden tools is a bulb planter. I use this to take out plugs of soil for planting seedlings to potatoes. It’s the perfect diameter and allows you to control the depth precisely.
I have a weed picker from CutCo that I LOVE. it has a surgical steel blade and after being left out in the elements for years and years it's still razor sharp. My only objection is the color of it blends in and I lose it all the time. I may paint it an obnoxious color so I can find it easier
I watch Robbie and Gary gardening too on my list of gardening videos. She has bird baths sitting all through her gardens. Robbie tells how it draws a lot of birds to them they take care of the pests like horn worms. I have just bought 6 solar ones and I'm going to try them this year. I hope they work.

I got the sprayer this year Because of My disability and am looking forward to not having to spray the neem oil on with the bottle sprayer this year plus you go thru spray bottles fast too!! I get my Neem Oil @ Lowe’s I didn’t know there was a difference either I’ll look that up on Amazon and get it for next year as I still have Neem oil from last year.. The Hori Hori looks like a must-have. I have DE but will get some Neem oil and a black light. I only had a few tomatoes this year and they did not get any worms or pests, but planning on many more tomatoes so want to be prepared. I will take a Miah once the cloning has been perfected lol

We have a wire cart like yours. We put a tarp in it to carry soil sometimes. We use 5 gallon buckets a lot. A local restaurant sells the buckets their pickles come in for $1. A cheap way to get 5 gal buckets. Thanks for the video. I got a few items for my wish list.
I bought all of my 3 and 5 gallon buckets from a local bakery for really cheap! If you call local bakeries they may have them available, you just need to clean the frosting out

I saw the Hori Hori video and bought one that day! Love it, and stays in my garden rolling seat. Broke it in planting 50 strawberry plants! I also got the blacklight last year. Chickens and Muscovy thank you for the big green hornworm treats.
You can go to the bakery department in Walmart and get large food grade buckets for super cheap ($1 at my store) with lids. These are super good buckets and I use them all the time in the garden.

Insect netting is a must for me. I use it to protect my cabbage and broccoli crops against worms from the flying moths. I have a question for you. When applying neem oil do you add an emulsifier to the spray? Like a few drops of soap. When I used it it stopped up my sprayer. Love your videos.

I have had mixed feelings about those little grow bags. They are very convenient to use, however I have noticed in past years my plants in the pouches seemed more root bound than plants grown in the plastic pots. Also, while they are degradable, you will be seeing them in your compost bin for at least 2 winters. That gorilla cart has saved me some backache however, 100% recommend.
I love repurposing things too! Although that hori hori tool looks pretty awesome. It's funny, the roo apron reminds me of a gardening apron I made years ago! Came in so handy

When I’m far from the house, I can load up my tools, Kleenex box, 2 thermos bottles, a lawn chair and attachable umbrella for frequent breaks PLUS the materials needed(compost, soil, gravel, and whatever else. I love it and I read over 200 reviews before buying it. Two things to note: Do not damage the box because a few people got one where the bolt holes didn’t line up and they said customer service is “horrible “ so you’re ahead to return it rather than try to get missing pcs. Second, turn the loaded cart in a wide radius so the handles’s axel (?) doesn’t break!
I am currently using my kids little red wagon for my outdoor garden projects. The sides aren't very high so I use free 5 gallon buckets from the local bakery. They are $5-6 to buy around here, plus the lid if you want one. I would really like the gorilla dump cart though. On my Amazon wishlist now ✔

I got those bags off amazon after you spoke about them in a previous video. I love them! I use an empty dog food can to fill each larger one up. I fold it down over the side and fill up. Very easy. I also re use k-cups and place the smaller ones inside of the k-cup for seed starting. this seems to work nice with the small ones, since they seem to keep them from getting too wet. The larger ones i use for up potting and also I use the trays like you or lasagna foil pans. Of course they are all still on my porch, since it is still too cold here. waiting and waiting some more.

Thanks for sharing your experience with tool quality. Typically, you get what you pay for, but I have found a few decent goodies at Big Lots and Dollar Stores. Auctions are a GREAT source for the old, heavy "real steel" that can withstand repeated sharpening and stress.I love the hori hori. I would likely use the blade notch to open "liquid refreshment" for the garden(er). For the compost pile, of course :-)Many thanks for the vid!
Luckily, I saw this video and immediately clicked on the grow bags. One Amazon reviewer mentioned that she can even write on the bag......nice. Another reviewer turns her bags inside out for better stability. Seriously looking at the Hori-Hori; will it make me a Samurai gardener?
Love this! Another idea: periodic videos featuring your “empties”, I.e. seed packets you’ve used all the way up recently. Would you buy them again? Were they empty because they were your favorite? etc.
You could do the seasonally, in other words, packets you used up this spring, or packets you used up over the summer.
What you have is a dibbler (with the R). A dibble tool is a long-handled tool used in forestry. Knowing this may make it easier for your viewers to find one for themselves. I have several after I went on a hunt for one some years ago and found them to be entirely unknown in the U.S. Rrrg. In the end, my family kept their eyes open and by then end, I had one from an antique store (my favorite), two wooden ones from a vendor at a Baker Creek festival and another from whoknowswhere. Great video. I have got to get a hoi hoi knife. I have put getting on off way too long. I have my father-in-laws dibbler And I absolutely love my metal cart. I lay a tarp in it to keep soil in it. I may buy a yard bag to use in it as an insert. Hubby is always using the wheel barrow.
Hi Jess, one of my favorite garden tools is a bulb planter. I use this to take out plugs of soil for planting seedlings to potatoes. It’s the perfect diameter and allows you to control the depth precisely.
I have a weed picker from CutCo that I LOVE. it has a surgical steel blade and after being left out in the elements for years and years it's still razor sharp.
My only objection is the color of it blends in and I lose it all the time. I may paint it an obnoxious color so I can find it easier

I watch Robbie and Gary gardening too on my list of gardening videos. She has bird baths sitting all through her gardens. Robbie tells how it draws a lot of birds to them they take care of the pests like horn worms. I have just bought 6 solar ones and I'm going to try them this year. I hope they work.

For trays I use thrift store cookie sheets and cake pans. Way more sturdy than plastic and cheap!

I get my Neem Oil @ Lowe’s I didn’t know there was a difference either I’ll look that up on Amazon and get it for next year as I still have Neem oil from last year.. The Hori Hori looks like a must-have. I have DE but will get some Neem oil and a black light. I only had a few tomatoes this year and they did not get any worms or pests, but planning on many more tomatoes so want to be prepared. I will take a Miah once the cloning has been perfected lol

I was so excited to see when I bought my roo apron that it comes from the same city I live in! I bought 4 when they were on sale around Christmas can't wait to break them in
We have a wire cart like yours. We put a tarp in it to carry soil sometimes. We use 5 gallon buckets a lot. A local restaurant sells the buckets their pickles come in for $1. A cheap way to get 5 gal buckets. Thanks for the video. I got a few items for my wish list.

I bought all of my 3 and 5 gallon buckets from a local bakery for really cheap! If you call local bakeries they may have them available, you just need to clean the frosting out

I saw the Hori Hori video and bought one that day! Love it, and stays in my garden rolling seat. Broke it in planting 50 strawberry plants! I also got the blacklight last year. Chickens and Muscovy thank you for the big green hornworm treats.

You can go to the bakery department in Walmart and get large food grade buckets for super cheap ($1 at my store) with lids. These are super good buckets and I use them all the time in the garden.

Insect netting is a must for me. I use it to protect my cabbage and broccoli crops against worms from the flying moths. I have a question for you. When applying neem oil do you add an emulsifier to the spray? Like a few drops of soap. When I used it it stopped up my sprayer. Love your videos.

This is absolutely great information. You gotta let the tools work for you. I already bought that little hand shovel tool(barebones) from your previous link, and i love it!!!! I really like the garden cart , just the thought that it lifts up and you can dump the dirt on site is awesome. Also, i like that cobra weeder- I'll be getting that as well. I have had mixed feelings about those little grow bags. They are very convenient to use, however I have noticed in past years my plants in the pouches seemed more root bound than plants grown in the plastic pots. Also, while they are degradable, you will be seeing them in your compost bin for at least 2 winters. That gorilla cart has saved me some backache however, 100% recommend.

When I was young (and had no money) my gardening tool was a long serrated kitchen knife, I used it for everything.
