Diesel ducks are a great design, there are a lot of different boat builds on Utube, Sail, Motor, Wood, Steel, Glass, and even a kid in England with a concrete boat build. I like to watch them all they all are interesting and someone like me stuck in a wheelchair can live vicariously through them all. Great work Scott.

@@darrindedman8165 there are many ferro cement boats...they get stronger with age. They are better with low aspect rigs because the material is denser than the equivalent required amount of steel. Some concrete barges made before WWII are still functioning well

Really nice to watch someone building their dream boat. Its a shame you have to sand out the bruising the clamps make, If you were to make up some pads from scrap wood you wouldn't need to sand the board afterwards. Also the Japanese pull saw you used to cut your dowels with, the cutting stroke starts with a pull stroke to start it off as opposed to pushing to start the cut like a regular hand saw. The blades are set to cut when you pull the saw towards you. Good luck with the rest of the build.

Just wondering if you’ve looked at using PL Premium. It works in the cold and is very strong. I’ve used it to attach my plywood to the frames and on my scarf joints. I still use epoxy to laminate the plywood simple because it’s cheaper.

Do you have an idea of the displacement of this boat. Compared to Fiberglass I'm guessing it's heavier and maybe slightly less then if built with steel. The picture resembles a Diesel Duck or Sea Horse. Both of which if yours turned out half as good in it's sea going ability you can be proud. That's a heck of a project and finishing details are almost overwhelming but you got a dam fine start.

I am finally caught up on the year and a halves worth of videos that I missed. I want to talk about the flex seal vs tar thing back in August. I am a bit on the fence with one or the other. on one hand Tar (I am assuming pine tar) is tried and true, we know it works, and it works well while lasting you quite a long time. on the other hand the specs for the Flex Seal seem comparable and in some areas will perform better then tar. however the long term conditions that it will be subjected to for its exclusive use in this application is not very well documented and you would be testing the waters (pun unintended) on how well it stands up to the forces of the sea.

I'm curious and not sure if you've ever mentioned it in another video. Is there going to be a point where you'll have to expand the size of your building? Seems to be getting pretty tight in there. Another great video.

That damn boat shed is my biggest regret of the whole project! I intended it to be 18” taller but didn’t take into account the full depth of the post holes for the knee walls. Even with that, had I known then what I know now, I would have built it 10’ longer and 5’ wider. So the answer is no, I won’t be raising the building. I never intended to build the pilot house here to ease in transport when we go to water. Right now everything should just fit but it’s going to be very, very tight.

Hey Scott - First Time Viewer (BlueWater Sailor - 40k.OceanMiles). Love your project !! And you should put a sign on your shed that says "Nothing pays off like Persistence." ;-) . Brief observation: Strongly suggest you consider placing the portside "Only Shower" in the aft cabin, where the "desk" shows in the plans. The first time your wife has to journey thru the main salon, up thru the pilot.house, and then down into the aft owners cabin (after taking a shower) ... you'll regret having that shower so far forward. Leave the head where it is in the forepeak; just don't forget to add a "seatbelt" on the throne for heavy weather. And PS: You really need more ventilation & an Organic Mask when doing so much epoxy resin work ... the outgassing will give you cancer, destroy your lungs, etc. (Pulmonary Fibrosis). Spent over 30yrs. in the Marine Industry...and would hate to see you gasping and wheezing on your first voyage. Cheers! and keep up the good work.

Mike there are some things in life that are done for different reasons . I believe that there are things in life that are worth doing even if the cost is high. I for myself cant put a monetary value on everything in life. we cant let every thing we do be judged by money. If I want to do something like this project or another I do have to weigh how much it will cost and decide from there if I can afford to do it. And it don't matter then what anyone else has to say about it. at the end of it the day If I'm going to do it it will be because I want to .
