This airport is on it's last legs -- So many former investors have opted out, airlines moving back to Frankfurt despite the increase in operations cost and a Russian Ogliarch who also owns the Nurburgring Property, plans to purchase it, if he already hasn't . The airport would have been far more successful had they marketed it as an International Airport for the Rheinland Pfalz with easy access to Tri-Country areas of Germany/Belgium/Netherlands via Aachen and to France by way of the Saarland to the south. Although blessed with excellent autobahn connections, the area failed to invest in rail linkage which would have provided more mobile avenues to/from the airport. The main drawback was that airport marketing opted to hitch the airport's name on to Frankfurt giving a false impression that Frankfurt was a short distance away, when in fact, Luxemburg City is closer to Hahn airport than Frankfurt actually is. Officially, the airport was supposed to relieve Frankfurt International of overload, but it failed to do so due to it's remote location.
