I love the 3DS! One of the aspects I love from the 3DS are how customizable it felt with themes and just decorating the console itself :). Some of my fave games are the Shin Megami Tensei games, Yo Kai Watch isn’t too challenging but was a fun game, Monster Hunter Stories, the other Monster Hunter games are great too. And I also got play Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask for the first time because of the 3DS, and that was a wonderful experience :)
Yeah I loved the customisation, the badge arcade was cool too being able to decorate the home screen! The switch seems so boring in comparison! I’ve been meaning to try some of the SMT and Yokai Watch games for a while! And wow must have been cool to experience OOT abs Majoras mask for the first time! I absolutely loved my first time through both of them on the N64, but the 3DS games improved a lot of the more frustrating bits!
Love your true blunt thoughts on the games. Thats what reviews are about honesty. Your not sugar coating your views just because your a nintendo fan. A breath of fresh air
It’s a good job it’s an optional feature, often forgotten or hated, but I really love it! Miss the whole 3D craze TBH, kind of wish the switch had a 3D screen too!

The Story of Seasons games are amazing on the 3DS. The two Bravely Default games are also a big recommendation! The Dragon Quest games. The Mario & Luigi games. Fire Emblem games. Spirit Camera was also fun.
@@RetroBreak It's very rewarding. It's like a life sim with plenty of RPG elements thrown in. Namely being plot driven and reliant on experience points/leveling up. The developers, Level-5, always make fantastic titles.
I think your assessment of it is very fair. The system itself was great, especially the New 3DS XL. Streetpass was fantastic and made me and my wife take our systems everywhere with us. I loved the 3D display and like you, played with it on full most of the time. The library was held up by some cool ports (I actually played Xenoblade to completion on mine and loved it) and it had a good selection of virtual console games. In terms of defining games for the system, Monster Hunter 4, Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates, A Link Between Worlds and Resident Evil Revelations stand out for me. I also really enjoyed Codename S.T.E.A.M. I missed out on all of the RPG’s that people rave about though. So yeah, I kind of agree that it had a lot of mediocre/forgettable/disappointing exclusive games.
I forgot to mention it in the video, but yeah, the virtual console was great on the 3DS! Something I wish the Switch had! The switch online games aren’t really the same.. I really need to try code name Steam, I’ve got it, but always had a bad feeling about it because I really wanted a new Advance Wars game and was so sad when they announced it! :(
I absolutely love the 3DS. It became my fave handheld from Nintendo. Incredible library. Planning km doing a 3DS 10 year anniversary video myself soon.
The 3DS was the first handheld console I brought new with my own money. My eyes didn't adjust well to the 3DS effect so I always had it turned off, even so I still love the console and think it's the best looking out of all the DS consoles. Recommended 3DS titles (sorry if you already own and I missed it) 1.Fantasy Life 2.YO-KAI Watch game series 3.Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright 4. Three Professor Layton games (Miracle Mask, Azran Legacy & Layton's Mystery Journey) 5.Castlevania Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate 6. Mario & Luigi series (Bowser's Inside Story, Superstar Saga, Dream Team Bros, Paper Jam Bros) 7.Cave Story
Thanks for the recommendations! I already have most of those, but not all :) I actually ordered cave story from CEX last week but the cancelled the order because someone else bought it just before me and they didn’t have any more in stock!! 😭
Hope you manage to find a copy elsewhere. I paid over £30 second hand for my copy a while back. There is the original classic mode Cave Story available from the nintendo eshop.
I've owned 3DS only for a very short time but I had a good time. This has taken me way back and now I feel like buying it again to find some hidden gems too!
I'm really enjoying the 3DS. I recently 100% completed Metroid: Samus Returns and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've now just started Fire Emblem: Awakening so we'll see how that goes. I also recommend you purchase the 3D versions of Streets of Rage 2, Shinobi and Outrun, the 3D is excellent. I'm like you Nick, the 3D slider is always pushed up to max on every game - love it!
I really need to play Sami’s Returns properly! I got it day one but didn’t like the new control style and melee combat.. I’ll give it another go soon! :D
I'm the opposite. I never liked the DS. The graphics on most games, controls & gameplay were bad to me. They were bad, even for the time. I never understood the hype. But the 3DS was a game changer! I'm actually one of those weird ones who loved using the 3D. I still feel it's amazing. It always gave me such an arcade vibe. The 3DS had such an incredible Library as well. I still collect for it, and own over 170+ games.
I actually prefer the more basic look of the DS games, but then again, I get more impressed and have more fun with a good SNES or NES game than anything on the PS5, so I’m just weird when it comes to graphics haha..
@@RetroBreak I understand what you mean, and I agree 100%. (Basic games) I grew up on regular NES & SNES. SNES is my favorite Nintendo console. But I never was a big fan of early Nintendo 3D games. (64 & Gamecube) When the regular DS came out in the early 2000s t wasn't for me, but I owned one. I only had a handful of games. I did not like using a stylus pen for most games either. It was hard to get into, for me. Funny thing is, I do have a GameCube with a lot of good games. When 3DS came out it was great because there were so many unbelievable first party titles. The full 3D aspect was awesome to me. I actually use it every time I play. I love how the game's look and feel. (I'm always surprised when I hear NOBODY ever used it). And most games didn't require a stylus pen! Lol. I like your vids. Cheers from NY
Ds first party games are worse also imo. Worst zelda games and mediocre kirby games. Nsmb is amazing but sm64 ds is so janky. Metroid hunters and pinballs were also mediocre af. Pokemon games are amazing tho.
Noooo my hair was soooo bad back then 😂 I’m planning some more 3DS videos once I’ve got and played a few more games so keep an eye out for them in the future too :)
I got a cheap used 2DS just in December. I've been playing a less known VN, Petit Novel Harvest December, that I really enjoy. Think I'll also play Corpse Party. That's really good enough for me, justifies buying a used legacy system. Maybe I'll play some Fire Emblem as well.
Totally agree. I enjoy the 3ds games, but I tend to play more DS games on my 3ds. I did enjoy xenoblade on the 3ds, I only managed 10 hours on the wii, but long rpgs are always best played on hand heads for me so it was perfect. Smt 4 apocalypse is a great game, I much prefere that series to persona. Project x zone were great, but I'd imagine you have those. Yup, im finding it hard to think of games that are truly good and unique to the system
I always found the 3DS really good for J-RPGS. Tales of Abyss, Fire Emblem Awakening / Fire Emblem Fates / Fire Emblem Echoes, Bravely Default + Bravely Second, SMT Devil Survivor - probably a lot I can't think of right now. I enjoyed it a lot but I also didn't have the comparisons between it and previous consoles like you had.
I got bored of Bravely Default, the story didn’t interest me much at the time and it all felt kind of generic.. maybe I should try again and play the sequel too as the new ones coming out soon on Switch!
@@RetroBreak I can kinda understand that but I feel like the battle system is really strong and makes up for the story mostly. The last 1/4 of the game's story isn't great if you go for the proper ending so I'm glad Bravely Second didn't have that - the story of that improved IMO.
I had the same experience with the 3DS. I was also an early adopter. But over time, I appreciated the 3DS. I noticed you are missing some of my favorites. I highly recommend: Luigi’s Mansion 2 Dragon Quest 8 Legend of Zelda:A Link Between Worlds All phenomenal games. It’s a shame the 3DS didn’t have the breadth and depth of unique games the DS did but the 3DS still has a great library.
i love the 3ds , been having a blast since pokemon x/y came with a 2ds, in recently years i go back with a new 3ds xl, my favorite games to recommend are; Metroid Samus Returns, Project X Zone 1/2(try this game), A link between worlds.
Having my name on a duck was reward enough. It took me a long time to adapt to the 3D, but once I had, I would always play it with the slider at max. It was a shame that after a while very few games seemed to use it.
Noooo! Triforce Heroes is GREAT! We've played it locally with our kids and it's really exciting! I also like the different style and humor compared to traditional Zelda :) Thank you for this video anyway!
3ds had great games, they just all came out so late into its life cycle that nobody gave a shit. So many of the consoles best titles came out after or just before the switch.
I haven't played my copy yet, but a game I have heard nothing but good things about is Rune Factory 4. I'm excited to play it when I get around to it. It's not insanely expensive (not sure about the PAL price). Great video!
Well, I can tell who you leant your copy of Super Mario 3D Land to! Honestly my thoughts on the 3DS line up with yours for the first year or two, ambassador certificate owner and all, but towards the back end of its life it basically became the second coming of the DS like I wanted it to be. I still play it on holidays and during travel - over the Switch even :P
I was surprised to see their mii’s when I booted the game up! :D for me although it did get a lot better in the 2nd half of the systems life it never quite got as good as the DS... I just think of games like Advance Wars, Cing’s adventure games (Hotel Dusk, Another Code) or the DS Castlevania entries and nothing on the 3DS lives up to those for me..
I had a....love/hate relationship with the 3DS. I waited until OoT3D came out to buy my 3DS with that and Street Fighter. I wasn't overly impressed with the console. I found it too small, as I was used to my DSi XL. I sold it maybe a year later. Then I got the 3DS XL and loved it. Took it to Japan a few times, got so many Street Passes. Played Animal Crossing New Leaf on it (better than the Switch game, agreed!). Then I got the New 3DS but normal one for the face plates. Mistake as I found it way too small for my hands so sold it and got the XL. I still have my XL but it has been neglected a lot. I played Pokémon X on release but it was so easy and it put me off Sun/Moon, which I only picked up a few years later. I'm enjoying playing the console again and funnily enough, I'm playing Kirby Planet Robobot for the first time. Loving it!
I wish the bigger new 3DS had faceplates too! I loved them, but same as you, I went from an XL back to the standard new 2DS and it felt a bit cramped.. also enjoy robobot! It’s awesome!
Ahhh yes... My Animal Crossing & Mario Kart 7 system. I enjoyed some of my time with the 3DS but I feel like overall I was forcing myself to have fun with it. I do recommend you playing A Link Between Worlds though if you haven't already! My biggest gaming regret to this day has been to sell my DS Lite in order to buy the 3DS. As you said DS games don't look as good on it and I can't play GBA games anymore... Unless I wanna play them without a backlight that is. :') I truly felt this video man hahaha...
I’ve played Link Between Worlds, I liked it but found it very easy, especially compared to link to the past! I would say glad you enjoyed the video. But it sounds like it brought back some bad memories haha :) thanks for watching anyway as always :)
A few hidden gems: Hatsune Miku Project Mirai DX Theatherythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call (this, not the first one which only supports touch-screen controls) HarmoKnight Pocket Card Jockey There's a lot for JRPG fans which 3DS can offer: Shin Megami Tensei IV (and Apocalypse sequel), Persona Q (and Q2 sequel), Alliance Alive, 7th Dragon III Code Vfd, Fire Emblem (three games), various remasters from DS (Radiant Historia, Devil Survivor games, ...) Also Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is very good 2D entry to the series.
Hey Nick! Sorry if you've addressed this before on the channel, but, how do you feel about Switch three years in, and did it make up for your disappointment with the 3DS?
One of my favourite games on the 3ds is Pocket Card Jockey. It's a cross between the card game solitaire and horse racing believe it or not lol. Sounds weird but it's so much fun and so addictive. You say Super Mario Land was too easy? Did you unlock and complete the special world's too?
9:34 He's got 5 stars on his save file, that means he's finished all the levels with both Mario and Luigi - including all special levels - as well as gotten all golden flags (hitting the top of the flagpole in each level).
@@starlacUK I should have paid more attention to the video. It's just that I didn't find the special worlds east so I had assumed he hadn't completed them and was missing out. Thanks for that and I hope your day is going well 🙏
Hey guys thanks both for watching :) yeah I 100% completed it, found it all very easy and simple, but then again, I’m pretty good at Mario games, I’ve 100% completed all of them! The hardest challenge in Mario for me is definitely the final challenge in Galaxy 2! That level still gives me nightmares! Haha
The turn based strategy game Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is my favourite 3DS game. I couldn´t care less about the Tom Clancy name, but the game is designed by the guy who made the best strategy game of all time: the original X-Com UFO for PC and Amiga. It´s got superb maps and fun special abilities for the different characters. I also saw the 3DS on a preview event. That time the 3D didn´t work for me, I saw the ghost of a double image. Fortunately the finished hardware works perfect with my eyes, so it was probably just a fault in the prototype.
That’s one I’ve always thought about trying, but was put off by the Tom Clancy name, if you say it’s worth playing anyway I’ll definitely get it soon, it’s pretty cheap too! Thanks :)
@@RetroBreak Yeah, it was totally mismarketed and I got it for cheap. The graphics are kinda grey and the story about a Russian politician trying to overthrow the weak Russian president that gets help from american secret agents is incredibly stupid. The game itself is great though, I recommend playing on one of the higher difficulties since it´s more exciting that way. I´ve been playing on hardest and am very close to finishing the game.
The buzz and excitement around the 3D gimmick was through the roof, wild speculations. No one was able to describe it because you really needed to play the console itself to know what the 3D effect was like, just like VR headsets. The launch however was extremely disappointing because the games had the 3D shoehorned in. Super Mario 3D Land eventually showed off what the 3DS was exactly made for in a technical point of view and I'm quite surprised there wasn't a second one. Did I miss something through this video because majority of the RPGs are missing? The RPG library quite honestly is the only reason why I still play the 3DS now. Great video! 🤙
Yeah I know what you mean, although the 3D was cool, it didn’t really do much to improve the games. The only ones I can think of that really benefit from it are 3D Land and Link Between Worlds, love how the dungeons work in 3D in that game!
My three favorite series -- Dragon Quest, Megami Tensei, and Metroid -- are all well represented on the system, so I enjoy it quite a bit. Also, I think that Link Between Worlds is lowkey the best Zelda ever.
Honestly. Nintendo needs to do some oind of even to get all the "multiplayer" focussed 3DS some attention. Like, I kinda wanna replay Tri Force Heroes but no ones online
I don’t think nintendo will ever do anything with the 3DS any more, they stopped production last year completely I think. Sadly it’s online multiplayer days are over I think :(
I didn't get a 3DS until the XL came out as that was my first 3DS. By this time there was plenty of good games available. As for Kid Icarus, my copy is still sealed and have never gotten around to it. It is a shame Nintendo did not put Virtual Wario Land on the 3DS as it's an amazing game. My daughter put 1000's of hours into happy home designer. They were about 5-7 though. I can't honestly think of a 3DS game that you probably wouldn't already have. Maybe the Sega Archives collections 2 & 3, I think those are Japanese exclusives.
I love the 3DS. My favorite was likely the DS Lite, but the 3DS I have quite fond memories of, especially with Majora's Mask, Pokemon Y, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and a few others.
Wow, I’m really surprised that you weren’t a big fan of the 3ds. I didn’t get my first one until 2016, whenever Pokémon X/Y came out. Instantly fell in love, but yeah, I hardly ever use the 3D feature. I always turn it on think I’m going to use it but just turn it off after a few minutes, lol.
I've recently brought a 3ds at a decent price after completely ignored the system. really enjoying the Zelda games, metroid samus returns and Luigi's mansion games on it, I suppose it's better for me considering I've been away from thoughs Nintendo IPs for a while though. Great little system, especially for the price I payed for it all. Love your channel by the way really helps me find the games to play on it.
Probably helps too that you picked up the system once all the games have already been released, so you get to pick from the entire library, whereas my thoughts about the system come from having to wait for releases and my experiences when they were new. It’s only really recently that I’ve been looking at what I missed out on at the time, I’m finding loads of interesting games I didn’t know about that, and I’m excited to talk about them on the channel! Glad you’ve found some new stuff to play thanks to me! :D there’s more to come! :D
That was a really interesting video mate thanks. Ive had a 3DS for years and Ive picked up many games for it. However, I really couldnt get into the sytem either. I am on teh verge of selling it to be honest as I still have a stack of games Ive never even played on it yet. Shantea games are amazing, so very cool. Do you have the Fire Emblem games? They are worth a play. - Nice video dude!
I have fire emblem awakening as a digital download and have got echoes too, I enjoy them but haven’t put that much time into them. Maybe I should! Also glad you enjoyed the video :) I’m playing shantae on it at the moment and loving it so far!
i enjoy my 3ds. not so much for the 3d but because i got to play chrono trigger again (even though it was a ds title). it had been many years since i had played it. One i'm playing right now is River City Tokyo Rumble.
@@RetroBreak yeah I was definitely late to that party, could never really get behind the design of rayman. The whole no limbs thing has always been weird to me!
You really seem sorry to be pissed with the 3ds! haha. Happens the same to me. Mario and Luigis and The Metal Gear 3 were a super good ports! But still i agree with you.. there are nothing original/unique for the system.
I recommend Fire Emblem (Awakening is the best but they are all good), Bravely Default and Bravely Second, Box Boy and Box Box Boy (a cool puzzle game from the Kirby company), Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros, Metroid 2 Samus Returns, Rayman Origins and Puzzle Dragon Z
@@RetroBreak I really enjoyed all box boy games. Wished there would be a physical copy. Reorganizing my collection (beforehand 3ds and ds games were mixed together) I realized I have only few DS games as I never owned a DS but played those games with the 2DS console. Maybe I should watch some of your videos regarding DS games :)
@@RetroBreak Radiant Historia (if you haven't played the DS version), Dragon Quest VIII, Shin Megami Tensei (all of them), Fire Emblem (all of them), Etrian Odyssey (all of them), Rune Factory IV (if you haven't the Switch version).
Totally agree with hmm 3DS dissapointment when trying to run DS game :) I did this in ... 2022 :) I never had any nintendo handheld and I'm old enough that one day I decided that I want gba or psp or ds or 3ds. I ended up with Nintendo DSi Lite and then DSi XL (which i love). I liked DS games a lot. When I bought 3DS XL, I already knew that it can play DS games. I thought - "ok, the screen is even bigger (than DSi XL) - should be great". How wrong i was xD I mean, on DSi XL everything was crisp, pixel perfect. On 3DS XL it was just ... dissapointing. I would say that even now, in 2022, it's kind of weird because on DSi XL you can play perfectly good looking DS and GBA games, while on 3DS XL you're kind of limited to 3DS games. If somebody would ask me: which device I recommend in 2022, I would say DSi XL. Also, to me DSi XL has ... just better user experience. It turns up almost instantly, in like 1 sec. You turn it on and you can play. On 3DS XL it is more like a smartphone experience. You need to wait, until the OS runs. When you're in game, and you want to go back to the main menu, it also needs some time. I mean, i'm perfectly happy with 3DS, because it has very nice games library, but yea, definitely it's not ultimate 3DS, DS, GBA playing machine. I like the 3d effect though :) It seems kind of ... romantic. I mean, who now can invent - two screens, one with touch screen and, 3d effect ? :) Now, in 2022 you don't do such things ;) (everything is driven by money and it's better to create another remaster rather than coming up with something fresh)
@grzegorz_ I already noted it in a separate comment, but you can play DS games and all Virtual Console games (including the GBA ambassador ones) in native resolution on any 3DS/2DS. Just press and hold Start or Select while booting the game, and only let go once you see gameplay. =)
The metroid 2 remake is fantastic. Also the castlevania mirror of shadows is excellent. Steel diver is great for a cheaper game. Zelda link between worlds is one of my favorite games in the series . Street Fighter 4 has a really good port. Luigi's mansion 2.......I could go on
I really need to play more of the Metroid 2 remake. I got it at launch but didn’t like the new controls and the close combat mechanics.. I’ll give it another go soon and see how I get on!
@@RetroBreak it does feel different in some ways to a traditional 2d metroid. Yeah the melee mechanic is a bit odd. The boss battles are pretty awesome though. Such a fan of the channel!
I got Kirby Battle Royale for £7 so I think its pretty good for that price. My recommendations: Tomodachi Life/Miitopia Disney Magical World 1/2 Story of Seasons Trio of Towns
It’s a good game for £7, but not for £40 that I paid :S thanks for the recommendations too, I played the demo for tomodachi life and thought it was so funny!
@@RetroBreak play Tomodachi life dude ! It's really fun and worth it ! It has a great ambience and I just have so many great memories about it in general
7:50 Maybe you know this by now, but you can actually play DS games (and any of the Virtual Console games) in sharp, native resolution on all 3DS systems, by pressing and holding Start or Select while booting the game, until you see gameplay! =) That way they look way better than on a DS lite! =P Don't know why Nintendo hid it that way, never understood that.
@@RetroBreak yeah I like it too but it was the on foot controls which I couldn't get used to. I remember it had quite a popular online mode when it first came out so there was definitely people who mastered the controls, I wasn't one of them though!
Yeah they really missed an opportunity to use the circle pad with it! Didn’t make any sense why it’s supported, but only to give it a left handed mode...
Why did you buy all the shit games like federation force and chibi robo zip lash and then expect something else instead of Fire emblem Awakening, Luigi’s mansion dark moon or bravely default. Ugh
playing tales of the abyss now! i hated the main character and found him too obnoxious. He grows up in the middle though- a great character progression!
3ds is for sure a low point. I got the 3dsxl for my birthday last year of highschool (2013). I purchased pokemon X shortly after and didnt finish (first pokemon game I never finished) I then purchased Fire Emblem but couldnt get into it either. All in all biggest let down for me aswell
@@RetroBreak yes you are definately the best 3d reviewer on youtube. You put so much passion and excitement into each one of your videos! Please keep it up!
Ouch - wrong Theatrhythm! Curtain Call contains all the content from the first game plus several times more the number of songs. I liked the first one when it came out, but the sequel makes it obsolete.
Heck yeah!! I want to play it again after talking about it in this vid! :D also want to try and get the 3DS version of epic yarn, loved that on the wii
Honestly never played them, but I’m trying to fill in the gaps in my 3DS library and get some of the games I missed out on back then now! Got a 3DS video going live tomorrow actually so check that out and see how I’ve found some games I really enjoy since this video! :D
Seeing this video really highlights how lackluster the 3ds library was. I loved the gb/gbc/gba/and DS . The 3ds never had that system seller, just weak rehashes. It's stark how much better the DS library was than the 3ds. Although i did eventually get into the 3ds, maybe 3 or so years after the 3ds came out i bought a white new 3ds and hacked it and played dozens of decent games, by that point the 3ds had some stuff worth playing, really good indie games, shovel knights, cursed Castilla, Binding of Issac , and Shantae
I love the 3DS! One of the aspects I love from the 3DS are how customizable it felt with themes and just decorating the console itself :). Spirit Camera, in a dark room, headphones in. Quite a freaky game.

What a great channel, glad I found ya!
Love that retro hair on launch day! 3DS is definitely a system I want to explore more so these videos will come in handy!
Noooo my hair was soooo bad back then 😂 I’m planning some more 3DS videos once I’ve got and played a few more games so keep an eye out for them in the future too :)
I still use my 3ds since '11. Its a good emulation device.
Never heard of that VN! I’ll have to check it out :)
I only recently sold my 3DS and games so I could afford a PC. I might buy a 2ds so I can play the games again!
The “New 2DS XL” is a really nice system! Probably my favourite design nintendo has ever done
I had the same experience with the 3DS. I was also an early adopter. But over time, I appreciated the 3DS.
I noticed you are missing some of my favorites. I highly recommend:
Luigi’s Mansion 2
Dragon Quest 8
Legend of Zelda:A Link Between Worlds
All phenomenal games.
It’s a shame the 3DS didn’t have the breadth and depth of unique games the DS did but the 3DS still has a great library.
i love the 3ds , been having a blast since pokemon x/y came with a 2ds,
in recently years i go back with a new 3ds xl,
my favorite games to recommend are;
Metroid Samus Returns, Project X Zone 1/2(try this game), A link between worlds.
I've loved and will continue to love my 3DS. I'm even carrying it today. Playing Mario 3D Land
Monster Hunter 3 and 4 you haven’t touched
I haven't played my copy yet, but a game I have heard nothing but good things about is Rune Factory 4. I'm excited to play it when I get around to it. It's not insanely expensive (not sure about the PAL price). Great video!
I’ve heard good things about my RF4, I’ve only played the first one on the DS.. might get it :)
I truly felt this video man hahaha...
I’ve played Link Between Worlds, I liked it but found it very easy, especially compared to link to the past! I would say glad you enjoyed the video. But it sounds like it brought back some bad memories haha :) thanks for watching anyway as always :)
A few hidden gems:
Hatsune Miku Project Mirai DX
Theatherythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call (this, not the first one which only supports touch-screen controls)
HarmoKnight
Pocket Card Jockey
There's a lot for JRPG fans which 3DS can offer: Shin Megami Tensei IV (and Apocalypse sequel), Persona Q (and Q2 sequel), Alliance Alive, 7th Dragon III Code Vfd, Fire Emblem (three games), various remasters from DS (Radiant Historia, Devil Survivor games, ...)
Also Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is very good 2D entry to the series.
Hey Nick! Sorry if you've addressed this before on the channel, but, how do you feel about Switch three years in, and did it make up for your disappointment with the 3DS?
Haven’t talked about the switch that much, but that could make for an interesting discussion video once it hits its 4th anniversary in March..
Dude! That shirt is so awesome!!!
My three favorite series -- Dragon Quest, Megami Tensei, and Metroid -- are all well represented on the system, so I enjoy it quite a bit. Also, I think that Link Between Worlds is lowkey the best Zelda ever.
Ocarina of Time 3D, best game for sure!
Maybe the Sega Archives collections 2 & 3, I think those are Japanese exclusives.
shakedown hawaii is an incredible game. Would absolutely recommend
I highly recommend the dragon quest 3ds games
358/2 Days is your favorite KH? Now THAT'S the kind of hot take I stick around for. That game sustained me through so many cold bus rides.
Same here! Used to play it every day on the bus home from college! Even missed my stop once because I was too engrossed in it! Haha
Love my 3ds xl to this day best ever still buying games for it now. 😍😍😍
I love the 3DS. My favorite was likely the DS Lite, but the 3DS I have quite fond memories of, especially with Majora's Mask, Pokemon Y, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and a few others.
I can't believe I forgot FE: Awakening.
The DS lite was such a huge improvement over the original system! Loved mine too :D
Awesome video!!
Never had the 3ds, but last year i bought three New 2ds XL consoles. Kind of sorry i missed out first time around. Great console.🇮🇪
@@RetroBreak I shall definitely look forward to more videos from you, keep up the good work as I really do appreciate them 👍
That was a really interesting video mate thanks.
You should try Shifting World's on the 3ds. Incredibly inexpensive puzzler with an interesting mechanic.
Just bought it on eBay for £4.99 thanks for the suggestion! It looks really interesting!
Had a 2DS for a couple of years and luv the little system to be honest.
I unfortunately missed out on the 3DS - your video is kinda making me want to hunt down one on ebay.
Do iiittt ;) they’re probably pretty cheap now, especially the older models
Hello there fellow ambassador! Actually really enjoyed rayman 3d on the 3ds, was the first time I had played it
Rayman 2 is an awesome game! It’s been ported to so many different systems though it’s crazy! I first played it on the Dreamcast
Shin Megami Tensei IV and IV Apocalypse are probably my favorite games on the 3DS but I believe EU didn't get a physical version which is ridiculous
Thanks :) already played some of those, but I’ve never played Box Boy! Want to try it sometime!
I understand your disappointment! I bought one, hated the 3D and just turned it off, then sold it about a month later...
Have you considered picking up a cheap 2ds to play some games you missed out on? There’s definitely some games worth playing on the system!
@@RetroBreak I have! Actually your recent pickups vid got me interested again:)
Ever oasis is one heck of an underratedgem for the 3ds it was made by grezzo the people behind the ocarina of time 3D en majoras mask 3D remakes
The 3ds rpg backlog is pretty rad tbh
Which ones would you recommend? I’ve played Bravely Default, DQ7 and Tales of the Abyss
@@RetroBreak Radiant Historia (if you haven't played the DS version), Dragon Quest VIII, Shin Megami Tensei (all of them), Fire Emblem (all of them), Etrian Odyssey (all of them), Rune Factory IV (if you haven't the Switch version).
Found you from snes drunk... Hail!
looks like staffordshire uni in the photos.
@grzegorz_
I already noted it in a separate comment, but you can play DS games and all Virtual Console games (including the GBA ambassador ones) in native resolution on any 3DS/2DS.
My recommendations:
Tomodachi Life/Miitopia
Disney Magical World 1/2
Story of Seasons Trio of Towns
It’s a good game for £7, but not for £40 that I paid :S thanks for the recommendations too, I played the demo for tomodachi life and thought it was so funny!
@@RetroBreak Yeah I remember asking for Battle Royale for christmas when it came out but my mum didn't think it looked worth the price!
@@RetroBreak play Tomodachi life dude ! It's really fun and worth it ! It has a great ambience and I just have so many great memories about it in general
We love Fantasy Life, both me and my daughter
7:50 Maybe you know this by now, but you can actually play DS games (and any of the Virtual Console games) in sharp, native resolution on all 3DS systems, by pressing and holding Start or Select while booting the game, until you see gameplay! =)
That way they look way better than on a DS lite! =P
Don't know why Nintendo hid it that way, never understood that.
First time I've heard kid Icarus controls called quite natural! :)
I was used to aiming with the touch screen thanks to shooting games on the DS, think it’s a good way of aiming! :D
@@RetroBreak yeah I like it too but it was the on foot controls which I couldn't get used to. I remember it had quite a popular online mode when it first came out so there was definitely people who mastered the controls, I wasn't one of them though!
Kid icarus should of supported the circle pad pro Properly, as in the fact one analog stick to move pit and one to move aim recital.
Yeah they really missed an opportunity to use the circle pad with it! Didn’t make any sense why it’s supported, but only to give it a left handed mode...
@@RetroBreak yep it wasn’t great for me 😭
my favourite game is probably pokemon X and Y and any of the pokemon games. Most of the platformers on there are pretty good too.
Why did you buy all the shit games like federation force and chibi robo zip lash and then expect something else instead of Fire emblem Awakening, Luigi’s mansion dark moon or bravely default. Ugh
I didn't know they would be bad when I boght them! I loved the pervious releases of those series
playing tales of the abyss now! i hated the main character and found him too obnoxious. He grows up in the middle though- a great character progression!
Kirby planet robobot! Amazing game! also luigis mansion 1 and 2!
Great games :) not played the port of Luigis Mansion 1 on the 3DS though, how does it compare tot he gamecube if you've played both?
3ds is for sure a low point. I got the 3dsxl for my birthday last year of highschool (2013). I purchased pokemon X shortly after and didnt finish (first pokemon game I never finished) I then purchased Fire Emblem but couldnt get into it either. All in all biggest let down for me aswell
FANTASY LIFE!
Wasn’t the virtual boy classed as a handheld? :p
Technically it was... imagine taking the virtual boy on a bus or train or something haha.
3ds = best console. Retrobreak = best 3d reviewer.
I love being a 3D reviewer!
@@RetroBreak yes you are definately the best 3d reviewer on youtube. You put so much passion and excitement into each one of your videos! Please keep it up!
Thank you! That means a lot :) I’ll definitely keep going!
@@RetroBreak Thank you!
Get it till you can, these things getting more expensive.
Ouch - wrong Theatrhythm! Curtain Call contains all the content from the first game plus several times more the number of songs. I liked the first one when it came out, but the sequel makes it obsolete.
Ohhh I didn’t realise there were two! Good job it wasn’t too expensive!
I really enjoyed Little Battlers Experience. Give it a go. :-)
Kirby Robobot for the win!
Heck yeah!! I want to play it again after talking about it in this vid! :D also want to try and get the 3DS version of epic yarn, loved that on the wii
Im sorry, i call BS on 100% pilotwings in 2 sittings? Every single jetpak and plane hidden? I havent done it yet, why do i suck so much hahah
I probably mean all missions completed. It’s been a long time since I’ve played it so I don’t remember what collectibles there are

Get spiderman edge of time
Or The Amazing spider-man
It looks like a ps2 game in comparison
Mature story line & it has a Ds counter part
Never played any of the handheld Spider-Man games! I’ll have to check them out, they seem pretty cheap :)
@@RetroBreak they are graphically impressive & arent the usual 1st party games i think Spider-man:Edge of time also had a ps3 version too
What about samus returns. Awesome game.
No Yo Kai or Monster Hunter, Tekken, SF, or Blazblue
Honestly never played them, but I’m trying to fill in the gaps in my 3DS library and get some of the games I missed out on back then now! Got a 3DS video going live tomorrow actually so check that out and see how I’ve found some games I really enjoy since this video! :D
So, did you warm up to the 3DS yet? Lol
Nope, lol. any recommendations?
Disappointed... Boy... You put your hopes too high.. it'll only bring negativity to your life.. calm down and enjoy your life.
I am just sharing my thoughts, I love the GBA, DS, and the Switch, and the 3DS was a dissapointment to me
Seeing this video really highlights how lackluster the 3ds library was.
DS library is so overrated and frustrating
