Really well done video and enjoyable to watch. Even though I haven't played every one of these it was great hearing your take on them and what makes them special. Much more interesting than most rehashes of wiki I can't find time to watch on other channels. Also wish I had your accent, as it would likely make my rants more interesting to watch as well haha.

Climax made the 360/PS3 Rocket Knight, I remember being really let down how disapointing it was compared to the originals, just a bog standard platformer. and the guy in charge was a huge Sparkster fan too bizarrely.
Yeah I remember reading the designer was a fan, I think Konami must have been making bad decisions that hurt the final game. It really feels like a very "safe" 2.5D platform without the soul of the originals. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to it at the time!
@@RetroBreak Indeed, well the team who went on to become Treasure created the original concept, who were great for implementing novel concepts into games. But it shows you can be a fan of something and still not get what makes it so great.

I really appreciate how you shared your memories and feelings towards these games. Very well done, and your list was so interesting. I will definitely check out allusion of time. I have never heard of it! I’m going to think about my own top 10 now. The only games I can say for SURE that are in the list are Shenmue and Diablo 2….but maybe I’m forgetting something big.

After 35 years of gaming, there's two games that had a huge psychological impact on me.
Super Metroid on Snes and ICO on PS2.
For me these two masterpieces were and still mesmerizing.
From your list I loved rocket knight adventures, Megaman 4 and Nights into dreams.
That was a really interesting list. No obvious titles here or Super Mario games. And I don't even know if I could break it down to a top 10 myself haha.
But I gotta play Xenoblade and Nights sometime soon, that's for sure.

Just found your channel through your Saturn collectoin, love your enthusiasm and after seeing your list youve got a fantastic taste in games. I call Clannad a bit a of a religious experience. So happy you enjoyed it. Ive yet to play Mana Khemia but Ive played and have every Atelier becides them so I really do need to pick them up. Im a big fan of the pixelart of the older games. Great list! Kirby Super Star is also in my personal top 10 of all time! My cart must have had a bad battery or something because my save files constantly got deleted....which in retrospect maybe ended up being a good thing...we played through that game soooo many times!

What games were really close to making the list but didn't quite make the cut? I know there must have been some difficult cuts that barely missed the 10 slot!

Great list! Mega Man 4 is probably the most underrated Mega Man classic series game because the music changed quite a bit from 3. But going back to play it now, I think it's fantastic. I love seeing your love for Kirby Super Star! Definitely one of my favorite games of all time as well!
Megaman 4 is definitely under rated, it has some amazing music. My favourite is Dust man, I prefer the more experimental sound compared to 3. Also the composer from MM4 made the best song in MM10, Solar Man! :D I love Kirby Super Star so much that unfortunately it’s made me enjoy all later Kirby games less, they just don’t feel as polished or unique.

Oh man, I haven't played Illusion of Time (Gaia, as I know it) since I was a kid. I'm right in the middle of setting up my OLED Steam Deck with all the emulators, so I'm definitely adding this and playing it once again. Great top 10!

In no particular order my top 10 are: Silent hill 2, Elite Beat Agents, Halo 2, Super Mario 64, Dark Souls, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie, Danganronpa , Gnosia, and Tetris Effect VR

When I saw your #1 I was surprised I have never heard of Illusion of Time then I relazie thats the PAL name for Illusion of Gaia. That is great underrated game, also their Terranigma game is amazing as well.

Honestly I don’t think I could even narrow down my top 10 favorite games but This list was extremely interesting mostly because some of the games on it I never heard of before
My personal top :
+ Dead Rising 1 : Darksouls, Zelda Majora's Mask and Romero's Dawn of the Dead... nothing less.
+ Far Cry 2 : Tough fights and introspective trekking in a hostile and bewitching environment. Suffering and war make you think.
+ Resident Evil 2 (1998 - N64) : 4 scenarios on a single cartridge, fixed camera and improved 1st opus.
- Assasin's Creed 2 : 1st personal gaming purchase, History and Architecture, my entire childhood.
- Resident Evil 4 (2005) : Arena diversity, dynamic positional combat, Tetris briefcase.
- Pubg Mobile : Anticipatory hiking, napping in the grass, and deadly surprise attacks.
- Kirby's Adventure (NES) : The most beautiful NES game and chill gameplay for relaxing.
- Donkey Kong "94" (GB) : Remake of the real father of platform, 100 puzzle levels, with precise acrobatics, later brought into 3D by SM64.
- Wario's Woods (NES) : Tetris-like, more technical, more satisfying to master.
- Tetris (GB) "Rosy Retrospection DX Romhack" with hard drop, colors, and saving features.... and much, much more !

Great video, even if my tastes are so very, deeply different! My top 10: 10: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (Xbox), 9: Castle Crashers (XBLA), 8: Borderlands (360), 7: Super Punch-Out! (SNES), 6:Kingdom Rush (PC, Switch), 5: Golden Axe (series, Genesis / Arcade), 4: Street Fighter II (series), 3: Streets of Rage (series, Genesis / Switch / PC), 2: Robotron 2084 (Arcade), 1: Plants Vs Zombies (PC, Tablet, Xbox 360, Phone).
I enjoyed hearing about your list of favourite ever games, some of which I've actually been meaning to play myself. My favourite game of all time is probably Smash Ultimate, because I love playing it with other people and it just feels like a celebration of gaming 😊
It's pretty mind blowing just how many different games and franchises are represented in smash now! Definitely one of the most important games of all time!
I would not necessarily ban nostalgia for lists like these, but I would just do two lists, one affected by nostalgia and one not.
At least half of my Top 10 games as of now are mostly from when I was in my late teens or adulthood (Elden Ring, Fallout New Vegas, Yakuza Like A Dragon, Metal Gear Solid V, Dead Space, Bloodborne etc...)with only a few games older than that, and though nostalgia plays a part, it's mostly because they are just as good as those new games (Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun 2, Suikoden 2, etc)
Sure I love me some Pokemon Silver, or Megaman 2, or Mario World, or even Prince of Persia, but I can't put them at the same level as the others.
Since you asked, this is probably my list:
10-Resident Evil 4 (remake is probably even better, but I haven't played it)
9-Golden Sun 2 (unless we want to consider 1 and 2 one big game which was the intention I believe, in which case then that)
8- Final Fantasy 6 (It's that or 9, to hell with 7)
7-Dark Souls 2 (yeah suck it fans)
6-Sekiro (best combat in any game ever, even Godhand memes)
5-Chrono Trigger (nuff said)
4-Fallout New Vegas
3- Castlevania Symphony of the Night
2-Elden Ring (technically a bigger better Bloodborne, objectively I would put this at 1)
1-Bloodborne (I just prefer this)

I’d like to, but when I’ve done videos about soundtracks in the past they always get demonetised or blocked by RUclips :( that’s why I use fan remixes for bgm in my videos most of the time

Also if anyone new to 3D platformers likes Banjo Kazooie, the sequel, Banjo Tooie is just as good and just as fun.
I grabbed Xenoblade Chronicles for the Switch and I look forward to playing it as soon as I finish Ys Origin (an awesome, short game, btw!) and Far East of Eden IV on the Saturn - both of which I'm nearly finished :)

Interesting choice for top game! We got it as Illusion of Gaia - def an excellent game, fantastic music, story is lacklustre but the dungeon design is fantastic. Larai Cliffs music is one of my absolute favourite.
I like hearing about people's favourite game of all time as opposed to the 'best' games of all time.
My personal favourite game of all time is easily FF IV. The high fantasy story, the graphics, the battle mechanics, the characters are all things I love but my god the MUSIC. THE MUSIC!!!! There is no video game soundtrack singularly as epic as FFIV. Secret of mana and the original Suikoden would be my 2nd and 3rd favourite

Wow, Mega Man 4 didn't come out in the UK till 1993. And Kirby's Fun Pack came out in 1998. You were a bit of a latecomer if they were some of your first games on each console! :) Great choices all round.
Yeah I guess I didn’t think much of it at the time as the U.K. always seemed to get games and consoles later than everywhere else. I’m sure we must have got the N64 in 99 then because Kirby was one of the first games I can remember getting when it came out and we didn’t have an N64 at the time. We did have the snes for a few years before that, I remember we had the Mario All Stars bundle probably when that went on sale a year or two after, so maybe 95 or 96.

Not sure I’d ever be able to pick a top ten, but for sheer impact at the time I’d have to go for Ocarina of Time as my favourite game ever. No other game before or since has ever given me the awe and wonder I had when first playing that game. I don’t think anything will ever top it, which is a shame, really
I was so silly back when we got the N64 it came with the gold version of Ocarina of Time but because the only Zelda game I’d played before then was Zelda 2 I thought it would be boring so we sold it before I even played it! It wasn’t until a few years later when reading magazines and seeing the perfect scores that I realised what a big mistake that had been! XD
RetroBreak was that gold cart version the Australian PAL version? As I wasn’t aware there was a gold European version.
I used to have the AUS Gold version, as well as other gems like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger on the SNES back when you could get them for sub £100 but ended up selling them. I needed the money at the time so no true regrets but I always wish I would have kept them.
Yeah I think it was, we used to have a small import shop in the mall which sold Australian games as they came out there before the U.K. it’s how I got games like Banjo Tooie and DK64 early thanks to them :D

Have you tried Banjo Kazooee HD remaster on XBOX? It's the Rare remake... Also comes with the Nuts and Bolts trashy reboot, but worth a try.
Yes I played it on Rare Replay but didn’t like the controls compared to the N64 one, it messed up my muscle memory of pressing Z and one of the C buttons to do kazooie’s different moves!

Yes I’ve played them, another code is a lot more focused on exploration than puzzles like in Layton. Think of it more as a classic resident evil without zombies or something like Myst :)

Have you played xenoblade chronicles on the 3ds? What's it like.
Yeah I’ve played it, it’s not great. Basically the same as the Wii game with worse graphics, frame rate, sound and resolution. Not worth playing unless you don’t have any other option.

Have you tried Terranigma? Is even better than Illusion of Gaia. Unfortunately it only has been released in Europe and Japan (Trilogy with Soul Blazer)

Of course! Haven’t finished it though, from what I’ve played though I still prefer IOT, the story is a lot more engaging for me personally

So funny. I've not played a single game on this list 😂 but I wasnt a Nintendo kid so not surprising.
Do you include all modern games when you are considering this list? Just the ones from your childhood hold dearer?
There Deffinitely something about a time when you were heavily reliant on your parents to buy you new games that made the games you did have all the more special. Unkike as an adult where you can buy a game play for 40mins and never play again because you have so many more to try!
