And now 2023 it gets cut off from sheer congestion of traffic due to housing developments

Ahaaaaa. I'm to blame because I designed the box culvert under the road and the gabion transition from the monsoon drain to it. That was a genuien design 'fault', for want of a better word, because the discharge it needed to cope with was based on scant historical evidence of flows through the beach and design estimations flows through the beach post construction of the scheme.
    What gaules me is:
    1. Why was a flood bund built to protect what was HMS Osprey, where the sailing accamady etc now is, instead of elevating the road, which would have protected the new devevelopment on Osprey AND provided dry road access to Portland when the monsoon drain was running. This could have been paid for by the development. As it is the bund protecting the development on Osprey holds back water flowing over the road, which may well have increased the flooding on the road.
    2. Why has no-one learnt from the 2014 event and incresased the capacity of the box culverts under the road AND done what you suggest.
Very informative video, where did you get it?
It's about time we had that pint Stuart.... all the best Tony

Hi Tony, really good to hear from you. I'm pleased that you stumbled across this little video that I filmed in 2014.
You have no reason to apologise about your culverts under the road! As I tried to convey, the monsoon ditch and your culverts discharge the floodwater from the south very effectively, and although you'd like to have seen them enlarged, my own view is that they're doing a good job. Raising the road further would clearly help, but serious flooding being so infrequent, I don't think the expense could be justified.
I was trying to convey the point that the floodwater to the north, beyond your culverts, was trapped with inadequate outlets to the harbour. Consequently, the road remained closed for too long after the southern part had cleared.
I take your points about the frontage of what is now Osprey Quay. I still have our chat notes about the scheme from 2019, and you saw my earlier RUclips video on the subject.
I hope you’re keeping well. Very best wishes, Stuart
