@@ScarletttRebel Oh they're still a scam hun. And so is covid. Yes it exists but not as nearly to the extent as they are leading us to believe.
@@ScarletttRebel EXCUSE ME! IVE BEEN AN RN FOR 20 YEARS AND FOR 20 YEARS I HAVE BEEN DOING MY JOB‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
After a week stay in the hospital I decided I wanted to try to get a job there. Less than a year later I got the job as a patient transporter working the overnight shift. I loved it and a year after working there I decided I wanted to back to school to get a nursing degree. I was never good in school but this time I really put my all in and I just got accepted to the nursing program with a 4.0!! So excited but nervous also. Class starts fall 2021 I hope I do well!

"Lunches" I always had snack food hidden at the nurse's station. One time the kitchen delivered lunch for a patient who had just died. I devoured the lunch in the patient's room in about two minutes. Then I called a CNA to help me do the body bag.
My nursing friends had a “safe word” during clinicals for adults one. Def more random than “catheter”....ours was AVOCADO! and YES, there were times one of us stuck our heads outside our patients room and yelled “AVOCADOOOOOOOO!” 😂🥝

What saved me was working as a CNA through nursing school, I absolutely recommend it! I felt pretty comfortable by the time I became an RN.
So true. Emptying colostomy bags and what not was a breeze for me since I’d done it hundreds of times before
I became a much better nurse because I was a cna first.

I’m looking forward to actually sitting down to a meal and not wonder “is that my patient ringing the call bell?” I can finally rest and not be awaken on my day off by the Charge Nurse looking for overtime😩. Bless you as you journey into this truly amazing profession.
I don’t know you but thank you, Sylvia 😊. It takes a certain kind of person to be a nurse: someone with nerves of steel but a heart of pure gold. 💕. I spent over a year in hospital after my life turned to hell and if it wasn’t for all of the nurses helping me and getting me through the hard times (especially when my parents weren’t able to be there) and gently pushing me to push myself a bit further, I would have lost it completely.
The beyond hard and endless work you as nurses do is just astounding AND outstanding and I really truly hope you know how much 99.9% of us truly appreciate everything you do to help and comfort us.. even when you’ve left your private issues at home, you always put patients first and I just admire how amazing you all are.

I gotta say this is the most wholesome comment section I have ever seen. Thank you guys❤
This is why whenever I'm a patient I always try and be super patient with my nurse because I know they have so much going on. Literally the only time I hit my call button is if I need meds or my i.v is beeping. And even then if they turn my nurse alarm off but never show I be sure to give it about 30 minutes before I try again. I'm always really patient too when I have a student nurse who is struggling. I always tell them it's ok take your time. Can't imagine how overwhelming that first shift is!

*"Catheter. Caspar, catheter."*

On my first job I was putting in a Foley with my preceptor and the patient asked, "are you a starter?" (Wut?) I thought she was asking "are you starting?" So I said "Yes.☺" When she proceeded to freak out, I realized by "starter" she meant "new" or "beginner." The problem is when people are feeling sick and vulnerable the last thing they want to hear is that you haven't already been doing this for a million years. Being a new nurse is hard.
Hehehehehe

Good thing I have like two years to sweat about it before Im expected to even to bedside
Weirdly enough, develop a work personality. You know how Beyoncé had her alter Sasha Fierce? Create your own Sasha Fierce for work. Someone that has the qualities that you want from a nurse and what you want to compensate for. I’m usually very shy and anxious too but at work I put myself in a different mindset to help me work through that and be a better EMT 💓
Me too 🤦🏻♀️
Yes! ALWAYS tell patients you are a new nurse, then watch their face! Hahahaha!!! I’ve been a nurse for 15 years, and I still get patients who ask if it’s my first time starting an IV... I always answer YES! 😂😂
Just started my PGY-1and the first thing my resident said was "make sure you respect the nurses, they'll either make your shift flow like a zen river or make it a living nightmare" taking it to heart 😂😭
I’m in week two of being precepted and this is me spot on 😭😭 Praying it gets easier, sending love to all my fellow new nurses 😭❤️

Freaking out over the patient trying to get up LOL, LTC RN here, I tell my residents, "do you know how much paperwork it is for me if you fall out of bed" lol
🧡 that! Should have used that line when I was a CNA
Also a LTC nurse. I have said the same thing to those that think they are dying. "No dying on my shift, it's too much paperwork". They just roll their eyes and laugh at me. One said "when do you leave?" And then responded "Ok I'll wait til after 10". I love when I get resident's that have the same morbid sense of humor I do.
LTC nurse too. Hilarious I say the same thing but in my head. LOL

I don’t think I have ever announced that I was a “new nurse” to anyone when I started working as an RN 😳🤣... I just didn’t want any of my patients running out the door 😝
I did because the patients always were wondering why I was being followed around by another nurse... XD
We can tell 😂

I especially stressed that when I knew I didn't know what the heck I was doing. Especially when I had to shadow on a ortho trauma floor for a few months, I stressed the "new nurse" with vigour.

My daughter just got her BSN. Love watching Nurse Blake. Hats off for you all for what you do!
For me it was more like *thinking in my head* "please don't ask me how long I've worked here, please don't ask me how long I've been a nurse, please don't ask me when I graduated or how old I am" LOL
and when I'd be asked to do things like "your patient needs to go to MRI" id be thinking "okay......how do I do that? do i have to call somebody? is somebody going to come get them? do I need to fill out paperwork? how do they get from here to MRI?" hahaha
Nicole3900 well? What’s the answer ? I need to know just in case one day I decide to become a nurse
@@Softnsweetbb i wanna know too 😂
What is the anwser?
Leah Henny find out the extensions for the radiology department and call them to order a scan if the pt is inpatient :). Outpatient scans usually go through a scheduling dept!
@@Softnsweetbb the answer to the first part or the second? For an MRI they (the MRI people) will call me and ask if the patient is going to need anxiety meds before going, ask if they're on oxygen, tell me what time the patient will go, etc. Then somebody from transport comes up to get the patient when it's time for the MRI. It's a lot simpler than I originally thought haha. The most annoying part is if a patient does require anxiety meds (like if they're claustrophobic) and they have none ordered and so I have to call the doctors in the middle of the night to get an order. The nightshift hospitalists are nice but the orthopedic and neurospine surgeons who are on call are usually jerks and I hate having to call them!! Some patients are patients of the hospitalist and it's super easy to page them, I just send a text page. Others are patients of ortho or neurospine and it's a much more annoying process. I have to call the call center, ask the operator who's on call, have them tell the provider to call me, wait for the provider to call me, then finally answer the phone when they do call and endure their annoyed attitude that I woke them up in the middle of the night for a non-medical emergency. Good times!
The "catheter" IV bit had me rollingggg

1. Called to order a meal for a patient. Told the food service people my last name instead of the patients last name .. my preceptor laughed so hard
2. Accidentally told the resident I loved him over the ascom instead of ‘thank you bye’ like a normal human being.. I went for the love you bye line 🤦🏽♀️..forever want to die lol
3. Told PT they could get my patient to the chair when he was actually pretty obtunded and couldn’t move at all 🤦🏽♀️
4. On my first day I kept accidentally telling my patients I was their nursing student instead of their nurse 🤦🏽♀️... needless to say my patients were pretty confused

I have been precepting for a decade and I love new nurses! I love how excited tbey are. It keeps my love of the job from withering into nothingness.
I get worried when they aren’t excited, aren’t nervous or don’t low key panic over little things. Something is wrong if you are fresh out of nursing school and not nervous.
I love nurses, they always make me feel so relaxed, especially when I’m in the emergency room and have to get surgery. I think it’s because they remind you that people in medical field are just everyone else.

I couldn’t help noticing the board with the distributions... I will never stop being amazed at the patient distributions nurses have everywhere else in the world. I’m a nurse in Montreal, Quebec and we have 8-9 patients if we’re alone and up to 15 patients if your working with a LPN. Literally dying here 🤯😵 even nurses in other canadian provinces don’t have such insane patient distributions.
You should come to Korea sometime, it's way worse here 🤪🤯
Nurse Olivia, we should get together and create some kind of website advocating for doctors and nurses, and a think tank proposing solutions. I thought Ford was ruining Ontario's healthcare but it seems Quebec is suffering, too. Did you always have 8-9 Patients on a normal day, and 15 Patients if you're alone? Or is this just happening due to staff shortages during the pandemic? I'm assuming you work with a hospital?
