  • Keeping chickens requires more than just feeding and collecting eggs. Cleaning the coop is necessary on occasion. My coop flooded during recent rains so the hay and wood flakes on the ground were pretty nasty. In this video I clean it out, add some more sand, then put out fresh wood shavings. I also feed and collect eggs. Let me know what you think about my coop.

I’m all for finding ways to do coop maintenance quicker and easier. Seems like you’re doing a lot of walking back and forth with one shovel at a time when cleaning the coop floor. Have you considered making a door to the actual coop area. I think it would be easier and a lot quicker to shovel directly out of the coop (and adding clean shavings to it) than having to walk it out through the passageway to the existing door. Just a suggestion. Much luck to you!

Yeah every since I built the coop I've considered adding some type of door on that side. It would make cleaning it a little easier. I just stay busy so I haven't got around to it. I appreciate your comment.

Love the chicken coop build! Whenever I clean out coop, i find filling with a bucket is faster. Quick question, do your chicken fly out of the fences?

Thank you! They usually stay in the fence. I don't normally clip their wings but I did recently because if they do get outside the fence we have predators in the woods.

@labbyoutdoors I like chicken running in my backyard, but recently saw them like to flying over the fence. I thought you might have a solution since your fencing is similar to mine haha.

      You should clip their wings.
