To measure any object, you can open window>document info and in the hamburger menu select "object" and it will show you the length of the object. Make sure "selection only" is checked and you're good to go. Exact measurements in one click.

It also shows the lenght of curved elements, and no need to close the window, any time you make a change it is directly updated. Thank you!
That's awesome for showing the lengths of paths! Unfortunately, it doesn't work for shapes as it shows the length of the path around the shape and not the width/length of the shape itself.

Thanks! In later edition of Illustrator, also the very same Line tool draws a popup over the cursor showing "D:" (length) and angle. I'm also in the queue of finding a method to calculate exact measurement of curve lines, but more in detail, bezier's curves anchor "angle" direction or something like that. With that precision we can re-do complex shapes! Thank you from Chile!
