You don’t need all that expensive outboard gear. If you don’t wrote amazing songs it doesn’t matter what gear you use. Some of the greatest albums of all time were recorded on basic 4 track analog machines. Some of Elliott Smith’s early albums were literally recorded with an sm57 plugged straight into a tascam cassette 8 track tape recorder.
To Small artists here who wanna start, a Good mic under for 400 like Lewitt pared with The Heritage 73 640$ eats her 14k setup in terms of price performance and is nearly as good in terms of sound Quality . And remember the Skills are what makes you a good musician not a 14k setup. Even Though nice to have not gonna lie.

Not many people will hear enough of a difference to drop a lot of money on higher quality equipment. Buy what you can and upgrade over time. The best equipment won’t matter if you don’t know how to use it. If you can’t make a focusrite and a Rode-NT1A sound decent, then you have no business buying more expensive products imo.
I used to have a nice analog studio set up in the nineties that cost a lot of money. Today, with advanced technology and software, you don't have to spend a ton of money to get great vocal or instrument sounds. 🤷🏾♂️

this whole setup is 20k easy. sheesh I wish lol. I'm trying to get some hardware now to pair with my Manley and my Apollo. The sound you get from hardware is just so good, and allows you to use little to no plugins

@@bigstevedzn2353 your wrong coming from and engineer u can make a computer and mic with decent interface sound like it was perfected in the studio and still get that sound a lot of our hits now from new artist are recorded in home studios plus all they do when they done recording is send it to a good engineer for example the engineer for young thug (Alex tummy) mixed bestfriend one of his biggest hit in a car and laptop not only that he recorded savage mode with metro boomin(part one) in a basement with a cheap muffled mic and guess what it won a whole Grammy beating other artist who recorded in pro studios with gear but because he was the engineer and his skill it don’t sound like it was in a basement and u forget engineer s can manipulate to get them sounds alot of pro engineer said this THE ONYL REASON WHY GEAR IS IMPORTANT IS LIKE SHE SAID WITH THE C800 mic “it brings out great sound without any mixies”. @@SamiDaComposer I came from an mxl 990 into a focusrite 2i2, to a u87 into a BAE 1073 and Apollo x8. There is a HUGE difference. Ultimately the mix is greater than the sum of its parts. I am NOT saying that great sounding mixes cannot be made from amateur gear in NON suitable environments, I’m saying that the sonic detail of the vocals in particular will never be the same as your favorite artists BECAUSE of the gear. No matter if you’re using a slate VMS emulation or UAD mic pre emulation, it lacks specific magic of gear. probably should have been more specific in hindsight, but considering it’s a vocal chain video I figured I already was. And in terms of the actual MIX itself, matching the top mixers sonic signature is not achievable without gear. It is impossible to mix like Mike dean without his specific outboard gear. Alex tumay is a clean mixer who only recently (last 5 years or so) started using outboard gear (culture vulture, unfair child etc…). Great mixes are always possible from any equipment

Warm Audio is the route to go for us poor folks lol. I personally do not like the sound of Sony mics. But thats just my ear and respect other people's choices that sound better for and to them. I have a Warm Audio WA-CX12, Warm Audio WA-73 EQ and a Warm Audio WA-1B going into an Audient ID-44 MKii and connected to a RME ADI-2 DAC FS via ADAT, so Im getting the great functionality of the Audient interface but bypassing it's AD/DA converter. The RME converters are so much better than Apollo's. It sounds golden!!!

The demos from an upcoming artist I produce sounds way better, she is using a RODE NT1 straight into an Audient Interface in her bedroom, total 370usd. You don't need this gear in 2022, you need knowledge. In my studio I have some expensive Neumann mics, bus sometimes the SM58 is the right call. More expensive is NOT better in music production.
