I like to think back on the first movie when Burt tried blasting a worm with an elephant gun but couldn't go through the few inches of dirt due to lack of penetration. This here is him redeeming himself and at the same time getting boned for coming too prepared. A funny recurring joke for him.
the same joke happens again in the third movie. He was super worried about what would happen when the Ass Blaster would eat his M.R.Es, so he blew his house up, only to have his expectations crushed by Nancy telling him that feeding ABs makes them fall into a food coma.

The best part of the third movie is When Burt and the others have to improvise a launching weapon with flaming "home made javelins" to take out the assblasters using nothing but the contents of an old junkyard...
@@GeoStreber Burt does what many other great military men have done throughout history time and time again: prepare for the last war instead of the present one.
Burt is always underprepared for a first situation, the super over prepared when that situation comes up again. There is no in between for the poor man.

One of the highlights of the movie for me. The way they all look at him like "for fuck's SAKE Burt!" Priceless.

How these characters' extreme preparation --- portrayed best by Michael Gross, as others have noted --- is repeatedly foiled by their antagonist's natural life cycle is the series' greatest running joke. What a wonderful comedy of errors.
Todd Bollinger the best part is the errors aren't from stupidity, the characters are all smart, it's just the monsters are always one step ahead.
And it’s never intentional on the monsters part usually it’s just their nature is very bizarre. I love the fact that shreikers destroyed the radio equipment because they were looking for food and Earl and Grady thought the worms were trying to cut off radeo communication intentionally.
Burt is the REASON this movie is amazing. I love this so much. Fred Ward does a great job too. :D

This is why this movie is so good. It's funny, has great practical effects, keeps the tension high, and intelligently throws curveballs at the characters by using the consequences of their own actions against them, because: realism.

I know he had know way of knowing the car was behind everything, but that is a prime example of needing to know what is behind your target. He was denied critical, need to know, information

Really love to see. Spectacular reunion of original cast, ( the survivors) with a new mutated batch of critters
Mr. Gross is really getting old. I doubt if he will be making many more of these movies. Assuming any more are made. I think they have reached the limit of what they can do with this franchise without repeating themselves. It's sad that the population of perfection in the last movie is down to 2 people.

One of the rare instances when the sequel is better than the original.

When it absolutely has to go through material of any kind nothing says 50 cal BMG round especially if it's armor-piercing at about 615 grains!
Those .50 cal bullets were not standard AP rounds. Earlier in the movie Burt comments that the bullets were custom cast from solid bronze.
@@GBRyker61 if I remember I did say if it was armor piercing but you're right about what Burt said about his custom-made bullets with the bronze tip just like the bullets I make for African big game hunting for the Winchester 458 Magnum and the weatherby 460 Magnum.

The LAR Grizzly is probably the only Bullpup style Rifle I don't think is absolutely hideous, I think the Barrett Model 95 is not bad either.

In reality that rifle round would probably go through three of those heatseekers and enough power to still disable a engine block. With just regular fmj and not even using armor piercing.
To be fair, it would probably live up to its name and punch through a fucking IFV or some shit; Burt said those bullets were casted from solid bronze.
I guess the bullet went clear through the engine and out the other side.

There need to be more movies with gun-realism like this. Most of the times you see people getting shot in front of a wall, the wall get's sprayed with blood but theres no hole. Like the bullets just vanish after exiting the bodies.
This scene is like realism hitting those people in the guts, cause they simply thought you shot the monster, it dies, no consequences besides that. They didn't comprehend that a high velocity projectile would continue travelling, after it hit it's target (besides Burt, but he didn't know the car was behind that wall lol)
