Chadd Wright is a retired U.S. Navy Seal. In his video on his youtube channel, he talks about the 3 tools he used to cope with the extreme stress of going through BUD/S. He still uses these techniques today. I found his video extremely helpful and insightful and wanted to share it with you. I practice all three techniques he mentioned and I do find them extremely helpful for managing my stress levels during highly-stressful periods. We all handle stress differently, and it's amazing to know that the US Navy Seals are using simple techniques that we can all learn and practice.
If you would like to check out the full video or his channel '3 of 7 Project' the full link to the video can be found here: • Top 3 Tools I Learned ...

I teach 4x4 breathing to people all the time as a mental health counselor. It works. A lot of people don't commit to mastering it, but the ones who do reap the benefits for the rest of their lives.

I have a stress related mental illness and tried dozens of breathing techniques to relax. The 4x4 is imho not the most efficient. It’s better to longer exhale than to inhale. So eg 7 secs inhale, 2 seconds hold, 8 secs exhale. Aside from that, mediation is even more efficient than breathing techniques. Far more efficient, actually. Since you leave reality and just shut off your mind, this is very relaxing (if you do it right)

That’s the Big Four from Mark Divine:
    1. Breath control
    2. Mins control (positive self talk).
    3. Visualize success.
    4. Micro goals.

Simple and to the Point, just like everything else we learn in the military. ITs weird, but I dont remember learning this in SERE school but there was similar information like the acronym SURVIVAL. This information in really helpful. Thank you. There is so much good information we learn in the Marines like, proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance, slow is fast, two is one and one is none, and even SMEAC. Not only is this useful but we learn the learning process of listen to the class, do practical application and then use. Its so simple and it works. We should be teaching our kids this stuff. Every parent should have a Kit of books and knowledge to teach their kids how to deal with life and be a more productive person.

I learned the value and effectiveness of visualization and a meditation/breathing technique similar to the 4×4 early on in my motorcycle racing career.
It absolutely works and is an invaluable tool for any high stress, high performance dependent endeavors.

There are better breathing techniques than that. In general u should always breathe out longer than you breathe in (to relax). Trust me, due to a certain mental illness i practiced various breathing techniques for months and all day.
