I have experienced this before sa application. :) Someday, mababago rin ang thinking nila. By the way, I am an EFL teacher in China. I have been teaching in China since 2016. I haven’t felt discrimination simula noon. They treat us fairly. Tama rin ung nasa video na it takes time and you have to prove that you can teach and make a difference. We’re blessed in China kasi we can say that we are Filipino teachers. :)) Tuloy lang po ang pangarap.

If Taiwan discriminate Filipino English Teachers, it is high time for FET to avoid them as much as possible. It is also time for all OFW to avoid Taiwan specially if they are looking domestic helper jobs.
There are other countries besides Taiwan and the Philippine Government should know that. Why suffer a national indignation?

I worked in Taiwan for 6 years as test engineer in two companies but I didn't feel any discrimination from my Taiwanese colleagues. As a matter of fact, they asked me to help them answer their assignments in their English class as some of them pursue post-graduate studies while working.

As Filipino, we should also treat ourselves as equal to Europeans and Americans in terms of skills and professionalism so that countries like Taiwan treat us the same. Minsan kasi accept lang tayo ng accept nang offer kahit sobrang baba ng sahod, then you'll give same level of service excellence, skills and sometimes exceed expectations. This shows inferiority in the minds of the Taiwanese.

I'm a part time English teacher here in Miaoli City. I told my students that I'm a Filipina married to a Taiwanese. Teaching English is my part time job. My regular job is cleaning the park.
I am earning money depending on the number of my students. Less than 6 students is 450 per hour.
6 to 8 500nt pataas ng pataas yung per hour rate pag mas maraming students.
Yung face to face or one on one is 300 above per hour ang rate dito.
Per family 1500 per hour ang singil ko. Ako yung gumagawa ng sarili kong syllabus.

Koreans, Japanese and Taiwanese (aka renegade Chinese) look down upon Filipinos and Southeast Asians in general. Filipinos shouldn't have to push themselves on them because there are other Southeast Asian countries with shortage of English teachers with as good salary that actually accept Filipino teachers and recognize their English teaching skills. Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia just to name a few.
I just don't get the hypocrisy of Japan, Taiwan and S.Korea concerning Filipino English teachers. In their countries they discriminate against Filipino English teachers while sending their sons and daughters into the Philippines to learn English there.
If there is a perceived advantage of a "native" English teacher over the non-native Filipino English teacher, that would be the pronunciation. But that pronunciation advantage is a big fallacy. Filipino English teachers can pronounce English as good as American speaker, sometimes even clearer because while the native English teacher might teach with his/her own native regional accent, the Filipino English teachers follow the so-called "neutral" accent (the accent you hear from the newscasters in the USA).

Sa totoo Lang, ang kinukuhang English teacher sa Taiwan ay North American native speaker, like Canadian and American, No to British.. ( kasi masyadong slang), my Filipina friend married to Taiwanese ay nkapag turo, pero sinabing Australian (kuno) siya, with matching pa Golden Ng buhok Para mag mukhang indi Pinay..

one thing to overcome english speaking barrier is to force yourself to talk in english. it doesn't matter if you are talking to a fellow filipino. you might try to work in a call centre for sometimes to get to use to it. how can you teach an english subject when you are speaking tagalog on training or in an interview? you can't achieve this. one of the major proof that you can teach an english language is to speak and sound like it perfectly. with the westerners, they are born with this english language, but academically we learn it, what we lack is perfecting the sound and the usage of it.
