    Astig tong bata na to. Mabuting bata and he deserves lahat ng success.

The students also made fun of my accent in my first year, plus they try to push the envelope to see how far they can go. So it was a little culture shock compared to my disciplined students in the Philippines. Natuto na lang ako kung paano magcontrol ng behavior the following years. This is not saying there are no more issues. There will always be challenges but at least I know how to cope with them. At least now I am happy that my students understand me clearly which means siguro OK na accent ko. Hahaha. Every year, my experiences had made me stronger, more competent in handling my students. I am now in my 14th year of teaching in the US.

    I used to teach English in a University, pero dito sa New York sa preschool ako bumagsak. His experiences with kids swearing at him is true, because there are some parents here who do not teach their kids much about respecting their elders and following rules. Congrats kuya sa mga achievements mo.

      @@numberbender were you teaching in the city? My cousin broke when she started teaching in the bronx. Unfortunately, there are just some schools where it's futile no matter how good of a teacher you are. You can teach and teach but when parents start cursing you or kids jumping you after school then there's a breaking point.

      sa Barstow, California po ako nagtuturo. ramdam ko po ang hugot nyo at noong first year ko po eh ganyan din po ang sentemyento ko. I was broken and everyday I question if I am good enough. pero laban lang po. wala naman nga pong forever-- kahit sa paghihirap. As I mentioned from the docu, 4 years po ako nagtiis bago ko naramdaman ang respect from the students at tuloy tuloy na po iyon hanggang ngayon. kaya kapit lang po talaga.

      This is true. Even in kindergarten they are told to call their teachers by their first names (in the name of equality for all) which took me by surprise because in preschool we still said "Miss, Mrs. or Ms. _________ when referring to the teacher.

    • @tropicalstorm339
      @tropicalstorm339 5 лет назад +3

      @@mariamakiling2429 Not true. Kids are not told to call their teachers by their first names. All my nephews and nieces were born in California and all of them call their teachers Ms., Mrs., or Mr. I called my professors in college Ms., Mrs., or Mr. and only met one professor who preferred to be called by his first name and only outside the classroom and only to those students who are close to him. Students are not encouraged to think that they are equal with their teachers. Stop spreading lies.

    You've done very well. You are the kind of teacher these American children needed. I, too, was bullied when we moved to the U.S. In 1967 in school. Most children in the public school system especially in the poor districts have no parental guidance. It's as if no morals and values were taught at home. As a young teen, it was difficult, but I endured. Kudos! You're an inspiration.

      Not at all, it depends on their culture and their everyday lifestyles, which are their self-perceptions.
      To be fairly honest.
      Not all Filipino people around me who SMILES at me are my friends, right? When it comes to spreading my everyday real-life English with my newly acquired English accent, whether it's American or other foreign English accents, to those Filipino people around me who do or don't deserve it, before they hear my English accent, it is strange to them, right? It does make any sense.

    I'm a Filipino Registered Nurse working in a Wisconsin maximum prison. In my first year, I have been bullied by my coworkers: nurses, officers, inmates because of my accent. I'm the only Asian nurse, too. I remember, on my first day of work, my coworker asked me, if I know how to do nails. One even told me she will throw noodles at me. Now, I still work in the prison for 6 years & have gained a lot of respect from my coworkers & inmates.. I never let their racist comments get to me, instead I use it to better myself. I held my head high, & stood my ground. Don't let others define who you are.. Still be kind, & be yourself..! Never forget where you came from..& Just never give up! Just like this gentleman..Proud of my Filipino roots!😍😘🤗

    Numberbender - I don’t usually make comments sa mga nababasa ko at napapanood kong mga videos/vlogs or blogs/articles etc but yours are so inspiring and relatable sa mga OFW’s and Immigrants all over the world. Napanood ko ang video mo thru GMA Public Affairs and they did a good job sa story mo. First, ikaw ang pangalawang nakilala ko na taga Louisiana Laguna - the other one is a good friend of mine. I have a friend na Math Teacher dito sa LA Unified and De La Salle Graduate din. Your experience during your first few years ay naranasan din nya and nahirapan din sya but he loves teaching katulad mo na very passionate sa profession na napili nyo. KUDOS to both of you. He is still teaching and still enjoying it. Iyung pagmamalasakit at pagmamahal mo sa pamilya mo ay isang magandang katangian ng mga Pilipino. Sana sa mga susunod na henerasyon ay mapanatili natin ang ganyan kultura at pag-uugali. Salamat at napapanatili mo ang pusong Pinoy. Mabuhay Ka - Titser!

We are all equal irregardless of skin color, race or ethnicity or religion, or even economic status. I am very proud of my Philippine heritage and culture. After all North America is what it is right now because of immigrants.

    it has to be 4 years before i had the privilege of watching this vlog. am not an educator, just simply an empathizer for what he's been through. will be a good thing to come back to the homeland so he can share how it is to survive in a foreign land: different tongue, different culture. what people don't know is this about Filipinos: RESILIENCE, PERSEVERANCE and LOVE OF FAMILY. for most of others, suicide/drugs is their best solution when hardship comes in their doorstep. i was touched by the eloquence in the way he shared his feelings/views as he paved the path for his survival. as he very well know, Barstow is not too far from Vegas too... you want to roll the dice ???? (joke) hope Peter was able to accomplish (and much more) what he aims for... God bless you, and your loved ones as well....

You have people thar have different cultural background so the way they're raised are different. Even foreign born kids are rude as f. It's really whether a student aims to learn then you habe those who don't really care about education because their parents dont either

    Your story is a motivation and inspiration to all OFWs. Salute to you Sir! I’m currently giving library classes in UAE and may I just say that Arab students (if not all) are far more challenging to a point where I needed to watch all films that will help me with classroom management. And I am almost losing hope despite using various strategies and approach. Kahit na american accent ka sa arab country, since Filipinos here are mostly viewed as domestic helpers, walang respeto ang mga bata at kapwa guro na mga arabo kasi ang mga yaya at kasambahay nila Pilipino. That’s how most of them view us. Respect is very hard to earn in GCC and it is hurting and frustrating no matter how good and professional you are ☹️ I need more motivation ☹️

At first parang negative ang impact ng ganitong experience (psychologically, emotionally and mentally) peru kalaunan kapag nasanay ka na, it makes you into a man of experience. Those experiences will build yourself into a man of wisdom and as you getting older someday, they see you as a character you are as a person.
