8:16 Bess and Henry’s affair ended LONG before Fitzroy died. He did die young, but lived long enough to get married and died in the year of Anne Boleyn’s execution. Henry spent a full 7 years courting and trying to resolve his “Great Matter” to marry Anne. So things were definitely long done between him and Bessie by the time Fitzroy passed.
I love these videos. I knew about most of them, except Bess Hardwick. She lived to an extraordinary age for the times. If she owned Chatsworth she must be a direct ancestors to the Spencer family, including Princess Diana.
Margaret Tudor was Henry's older sister. Elizabeth of York was his mother. She is not mentioned in this video. In fact Margaret was the only actual "Tudor" mention. I was hoping to get Elizabeth of York, Francis Brandon, Margaret Douglass or Catherine Brandon, actual Tudors.
Mary Queen of the Scotts was primarily a Stuart and a Guise, not a Tudor. Mary of Scotts was related to Queen Elizabeth I (a cousin) through Princess Margaret Tudor, King Henry VIII oldest sister and daughter of Henry VII.
As a second son of the monarch. Henry was sent to learn to be a priest. He embraced that life as he was the second son, and that would be his road to power. Then Arthur died and well... doubt he needed any help writing his little book.
Bessie wasn’t the only woman to give Henry a son. Jane Seymour, Henry’s third wife gave him Edward, who ruled briefly upon Henry’s death. Interesting that you forgot about his legitimate son and heir.
Actually, it was said in the video that “ something only one of the other wives could do” so Jane and Edward were not forgotten, it was about Bessie not Jane

I believe once Elizabeth became queen, noble families just started sending their daughters to be presented in her eventual wedding. At that time, being a maid of honor for a royal wedding was the coming out to society for young women that cotillions are now.
Elizabeth's maids were virgins waiting for their chance on the marriage market. Serving the Queen was a springboard to a brilliant match, so competition for places was fierce. The Queen had to make sure they didn't get into any hanky panky and ruin their reputations before they found a suitable match. It not only made them worthless on the marriage market but was also a bad reflection on her reputation. So, if any of her maids married without her approval or broke her rules, they were severely punished.
Yes he could of. The king acknowledged him as his child therefore he would of been able to succeed him, should the king of put him legally into the line of succession document as part of his will.
Anne Stanhope didn't have a great reputation. She was greedy, rapacious and vain. She was also highly intelligent sadly her vanity and arrogance got the better of her.
Two points: Mary of Scots had abdicated. She wS noi a Queen and was not entitled to unusual privileges. Plotting murder and the overthrow of government are not permissable pastimes for anyone, deposed Queen or private citizen. I wish you would stop treating her as a victim. She deserved her treatment and I say that though she is a distant , and disreputable, relative.
W/o even seeing video first, I recognize Bess's portrait. Very distinct features! Love these vids...thank you! ❤

Fitzroy was actually present at Anne Boelyn's execution

Such a great video! Thank you!
I knew Henry VIII had an illegitimate son, but I knew nothing of his mother. this was a very interesting and well done video. Thank you.

Thank you for your work!
Good on Bess of Hardwick seemed like a nice and smart woman. Especially being kind to Mary Queen of the Scots.
Brilliantly done; loved it 😍
All so interesting...love these historical faxts and stories...
Bess of Hardwick was a very smart woman and survived her husbands through being savvy, I like Bess.
Bess of Hardwick has a star of well known Derby/Derbyshire people in the town centre.
Mary Queen of the Scotts was primarily a Stuart and a Guise, not a Tudor. Mary of Scotts was related to Queen Elizabeth I (a cousin) through Princess Margaret Tudor, King Henry VIII oldest sister and daughter of Henry VII.
Mildred Cooke, Margaret More Roper, Catherine Carey and Lady Elizabeth Hoby (best known for haunting) could also be considered.
I learn from your channel
Found a bio on Bess of Hardwick years ago. Really good

Bess of Hardwick is buried inside Derby Cathedral for anyone interested. Xx
Bessie wasn't the only one to give Mr King Narcissist Psycho a son Jane his 3rd wife did that boy did become King Edward
Thanks!
The only woman I knew was Margaret Tudor.
I heard of all except Jane Kennedy.
🧡 Bess of Hardwick
Bessie's son Henry Fitzroy was NOT the only son Henry the VIII had. Jane Seymour - his 3rd wife gave him a son Edward the VI - who died with 17
Wasn’t the actual fist queen of England Matilda from several generations earlier?
Technically yes, but she was never crowned queen. Her son ended up becoming Henry II.

Jane Seymour gave Henry a legitimate son
How could she be a maid of honor to Queen Elizabeth 1? She never married.
Chief Lady in waiting who attends to her basic needs.
Maid of honor as in primary attendant.

😂 the "FAST" women 😂
8:31
What happened?
Really hoped you had Margaret Douglas not her mum on this.
Anyone with a knowledge of Tudor history would have known all of these women. And BTW Fitzroy was illegitimate and could not have succeeded Henry.
Perhaps many view this channel to learn more about the Tudor period.
Would that have concerned Henry? After all he was thinking of marrying Fitzroy to Mary, his half sister
There was also a papal discussion about legitimising Fitzroy in some way or another, as a way to placate Henry and stop the break with Rome
Well some people don't Mr. Know it all so let them learn without you spoiling it 🙄

Why do they always have actresses with black hair play Katherine of Aragon?
I bet I have heard of them
