@@alyssagambone5544I’ve played in 2.5h with chips and 5p, it goes really fast as long as everyone is familiar with basic 1830 heuristics. I’ve also played 6h 5p games of this, but I blame the alcohol lol
In the first stock round I didn't quite understand why James changed his mind about buying the B&O presidents share. It sounded like Greg could take control by buying more shares than him - but you can only buy one certificate at a time so with James starting at 2 shares and Greg at 1 share, the best Greg could do would be to make it 2-all, then James would buy another (3-2) Greg 3-all, James 4-3, Greg 4-all, James 5-4, Greg 5-all and the company is fully funded with James still in control.
Watching the round table, the min max of routes is not exactly fun. Normally I try to do that for the group to keep things moving along with a spreadsheet. Out of the “intro” 18xx I do prefer 1889, I never thought this map with the straight cities was great. In my humble opinion it kind of pigeon holes certain railroads and in a way it does simplify some of the decision early on for beginners, but I found myself frustrated. Great play through- love it when people just pull levers like Greg did, but yeah buying a diesel out of pocket, as Edward said “not good”. Hope to see another 18xx in the near future :)
I mean any game that ends in bankruptcy tends to be faster to score, but in general, yes, every game you have to calculate your share value and your cash and that can take a while (unless one person decides to open up 18xxC app and quickly grab everyone’s info so it calculates for you.
I don't know if you have had a chance to play 18 India, but I think it's maybe the most accessible 18xx to heavy gamers new to the genre. Worth a look if you haven't seen it yet.
Not so sure about that one. I mean, I love the game but the extra burden from the concessions for the goods, the border stops, and having to think 8 tile lays ahead can be a toughie.
1889 is a little gentler on the trains because often 4s become permanents because a diesel never gets purchased. I find the 18Ches map and track building more compelling, so it's definitely a personal preference on which interests you more.
@@alyssagambone5544 I agree with everything you’re saying here. I will also add personally I don’t find Chesapeake very compelling with less than 5 players, and pretty boring with less than 4, where 1889 I think shines at 3-4 players. If you were to ask me what I thought the best 1830 style game is though, I’d have to say 1830. It tends to run longer than the other two, but it’s just so much deeper. I also like 1882, but I’m a Canadian sucker for Canadian games by Canadian designers about Canadian history
This is my favorite 18xx to watch y'all play. Thanks for the playthrough. More Power Grid!
3:49:08 The F4 upgrade could have gotten you to New York a couple ORs previously, before Camden and Pittsburg were tokened out.
What app are you using at 2:26:48?

I always enjoy having Alyssa on the table!
Thank you ❤
I mean, absolutely! No arguments here!
Always vote for more Alyssa at the table too ;)
@@tankfoxy22 You are too kind! 🙂
I was admittedly triggered when the paper money was out at the start and nobody said anything.
I am at that stage right now.
"This won't be a 5 hour stream I promise you that". 4:37, phew! that was a close one Edward :D
I have legit played this in 3.5 hours, but with a spreadsheet instead of chips

@@kroomiesterAlcohol and 18xx can definitely make for more "interesting" decisions!
Thanks for the vid! Cheers from France!

Outstanding playthru.
Would you all ever consider playing a COIN game?
That would be great to see
Awesome chip set! :)
What is that poker chip set? It looks really nice!

I love 18xx games. Unfortunately I don't know anyone else who does.
If you want to play online, I am always available.
At 2:56:30, Philadelphia got erroneously turned. Ruined a run to NYC for the C&O.
What app did you use to select Prio player?

Sit down, James, lol.
Are there any 18xxs that have less of the min-max just calculating things out aspect at the end of the game? Or is this just all 18xxs?

This or 1889?
Honestly both (along with '46) are great choices for a jumping off point. So between those, follow your heart!

Are these his friends or employees? The way he talks to these people is so degrading.
