Alyssa, as an oldish Sports teacher form the uk I feel compelled to tell you that your strength of character is an inspiration. It is such an admirable quality for someone to be, who they really want to be, because there are a hell of a lot of people out there who don't. I can assure you. I have taught many children who are desperately trying to find their identity on a daily basis. Someone like you would be massively motivational them. A wise man who sadly left the world way too early would always say at times of trouble, "don't let the bastards get you down!". Well easier said than done I know, but when you say it a few times it can be comforting. I love the show. keep up the good work everyone!
Thank you so much for this. I spent 43 years of life hiding who I was. My goal at this point is to be as visible as I can be and try to help in the smallest way to making it easier for trans people in the future to be in all spaces.
alyssa in that fifth stock round was GENIUS...i never would have thought to cut down all the new incoming companies like that. she kept the game even while ensuring that her own company would float to the lead, truly cut-throat and brilliant. i'm always excited to see her at the table, she's taught me to play smarter and stronger. thank you so much and all the love
@@scottgiet1835 In the 5th round Alyssa buy and sell a lot of certificates. With each sell the company value goes down, so even if that means a loss for her the owner of most certificates of each company loss even more. That manipulation ensure that her own company keeps the lead in the value chart.
Thank you so much! I may take breaks now and again, but I'm going to keep reminding myself that my friendships are stronger than the hate, and I'm not going to give up.
@@alyssagambone5544 I'm glad you are a recurring participant. You are an awesome player and personality. Be happy, be you. Sweet hairstyle for this playthrough!
You got me into 18xx you magnificent bastard. I am so out of shelf space it's not even funny. My son is going to grow up thinking it's normal for everyone's closet to be full of their parents' board games. Also, you get 4k views on a nearly 5hr video. That counts as much as like 27x 10min views, right?
I loved watching you play the game. With your teaching, I played my nephew and beat him, and he has been playing for over a year with his friends. We are playing online (because he lives far away from me) so I bought the board game so I could scheme with "What Ifs". The board has two sides, that seem to be identical. The rules do not mention which side to start on. Do you know why both sides have what seems like identical maps and stock tracking? What am I missing?
What I've noticed with the 18XXs that have a train-eating mechanic is that it allows the players to sit tight and let the game kill off the 4s. If the mechanic isn't there, _someone_ needs to buy the trains to crack the permanents. Without the mechanic the game can go forever, but isn't likely to (once the players are experienced enough to see who'll benefit from the game stagnating at that pint), but with the mechanic, it can be more likely the players will refuse to rush trains themselves.
@04:15:17 is Edward allewed to buy another share? According to my calculation it's his 17th "paper" including the suitcase company. And then he continues buying more next rounds. Is that correct?
I didn't understand why Edward was buying NWR shares in the final stock round - paying $95 for shares which were only ever going to be worth $40 for end game scoring.
I think there were about 3 companies that sold out of stock and never got moved up. Maybe I missed something, but I wondered about that. Also, how was Edward allowed to have 20 stock at the end of the game? Does that 16-paper limit end at some point? I was a little uncomfortable at the end, feeling like Edward was getting testy, tossing stuff and barking at people. But I get it. Long games can tire people out. It’s hard to be “on” for five hours, I’m sure.
Our bad if we missed companies that ‘float up’ at the end of stock rounds. It’s a thing we tend to forget. And I just realized we didn’t explain the yellow part of the stock market…any company whose market is in the yellow, those shares do not count against the # of share limit. If a company comes out of the yellow, you miss sell down to share limit the next opportunity (usually next stock round when it’s your turn). My bad overlooking explaining that.
Martin looks like he lost interest in the game and did not play optimally. He could have done better, but so be it. Alyssa made the Strasbourg work big time. Well played.

Someone give Martin a hug, poor ole boy... I thought he did great.
I know, right?👍🏼
I don't think Martin slowed this down at all. In fact it was very helpful hearing him talk through his strategy throughout.
Does anyone know the specific vacuum pen being used to pick up tiles?
It’s a Handi-vac. Got them on eBay. 👍🏼
@@Heavycardboard thanks!
Shouldn't Edward own Delaware and Raritan canal to claim that route to New York at 1:50:00?
The D&R just has to be bought into a company for the hex to open up. The company doesn't have to own the private to lay the track.
@@alyssagambone5544 thanks, I missed that!

18XX streams are the best. This isn't my favorite of the lot, but I'll take any 18XX over anything else.
Thumb for $20 chips
So, Alyssa has played this one enough to offer advice regularly...
