    Thank you so much for the content you provided to Signet for our Management Leadership Conference! Finding this video of yours is just an added bonus!! I’ve struggled with depression and severe anxiety for 15 years. I’m “high functioning” so I constantly hear “oh you’re not depressed” or “anxiety? You’re such an extravert” but what people don’t understand is almost 95% of the time on the inside I’m screaming and want to crawl out of my skin.

    Love that you address this topic! Its like deja-vu, when you talk about your symptoms. Took me a year to go to the dr´s. I have to find another way to support me and my family, as I can´t go into my workplace. I get so sick. You are so good at putting words to what is going on. I dont remember stuff when I go to therapy..

    I taught GED for a number of years. The number of people who could have graduated high school, or could have gotten their GED years ago with adequate mental health care (IMHO) is fairly high. When I see anyone (esp African American) getting mental health care, I just admire the hell out of them. I have learned over the years how much effort and bravery that takes. I have a son who battles mental illness and is currently winning, so I thank you and Bless You for doing this video! I believe in Jesus AND Lithium.....God gave mental health care workers a blessing to share with the rest of us, thank God. Even Moses was told to give most of the work he was given, to those men (or Professionals) who could be trusted to handle it. We are not expected to "handle" everything our own selves, all the time.

    Everything you stated made sense. Thank you.
    Most of all, too often, I do see people expecting their friends/commonplace people to 1. Fix them (and know how) and 2. Being RESENTFUL when they don’t (and in denial of #1 as well as the fact that they are looking at the world through jaded eyes due to the condition) - it becomes a bad catch 22. Worst of all, lecturing others how to indulge them. C’mon. I have been depressed, but I did not expect others to “fix” me (the difference might be my faith in God...now that I think of it), just looking for regular friendship. I don’t know, it’s always struck me as strange. You wouldn’t expect ordinary people (as you mentioned) to fix a BROKEN ARM or DO A FACELIFT...so, they aren’t capable and that’s okay. Meanwhile, when you suggest therapy, they often reject the notion. Siiiiigh, what’s a “friend” to do. You naturally get a point of avoiding such a person. The natural opposite of what that person needs.
    If a person doesn’t know they’re depressed, that’s one thing, but when you constantly tell people you’re depressed AND resisting taking proper care of yourself WHILE lecturing others on how they are “helping” you WRONG...you need to check yourself. Please, people of the world, stop doing that, it comes off as very narcissistic. Most of all, it’s just not going to work. I’ve seen it repeatedly fail, for years at a time.

    We are Christians we are not suppose to be depressed sad and anxious. God said he gave us life, and life more abundantly. So why are we not living in abundance??? Because of ourselves. I'm a new subbie and just watching all of your videos.
    I took on a job where I'm making $15 an hours after been laid off for 8 months. I regret taking on this job. I settled. It stresses me out and I'm not making enough money.

    • @bridgettc.4515
      @bridgettc.4515 5 лет назад

      teresa28ist Just because we’re Christians does not mean we are immune to the problems of the world. That logic only hurts when you’re deep in the fight of mental health issues. You feel guilty for something that’s not your fault and you end up beating yourself up because you feel like you’re missing the mark. What I’ve learned in my journey is that so many people that God uses in the Bible also dealt with anxiety and depression. We go through things, life happens and if we didn’t experience pain many wouldn’t be going to God. We go to him during the good and bad times we need him 24/7. Also I truly hope you get a better job and one that allows you to use your God given gifts and be able to not only be blessed but be a blessing to others.

    Depression and anxiety ALWAYS comes from somewhere. Usually, DEPRESSION is a result of living in the PAST and ANXIETY comes from living in the FUTURE. Anytime someone is uncomfortable living in the PRESENT, life becones overwhelming and you resort to either PAST or FUTURE.
    I believe that your dysfunctional family dynamics is what is causing you a lot of ANXIETY and STRESS. You feel guilty that you are the only one in your family who "has made it." Subconsciously, Your family is JEALOUS OF YOU and are subtle saboteurs and it's too painful for you to see this present reality.

    • @StaceyFlowers
      @StaceyFlowers  6 лет назад +7

      I agree that depression is about living in the past and anxiety is about being in the future metaphorically or mentally. But PHYSICALLY we are only every in the present. When I say depression and anxiety come from nowhere I mean an event or circumstance doesn’t have to occur before anxiety or depression hits you. People are confused and think that mental illness is the result of events or circumstances it is not. It is the culmination of many things that are often unseen and unspoken until the person is knee deep in a depressed or anxious state.
      Thank you for watching and commenting.

      Thank you for that first paragraph: that was an explosion of “huh” for me. It’s amazing the basic psychological tools we aren’t given and wheat we just flail around - unable to even recognize WHAT is wrong or HOW to help ourselves. I’m new here, but appreciate a guess into psychology of our subconscious as well.

      Most often, clinical-level depression and anxiety come from incorrect brain chemistry. Things in life can SOMETIMES have a contributing effect, but overall, it's the way we are born, genetics.

    Hi sis, omg.. this happened to me so i understand where youre coming from.
    I had it hit me really hard. My 13 yr relationships was over he left me for someone soon as he got a good job, i had just shattered my ankle and could not work for a yr bcus of the casts which was depressing in itself. Im a generous person and help everyone at my expense. THE PPL I LOVED AND WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR, THEY ALL DISAPPEARED FROM MY LIFE!
    I could not get out of bed brush my teeth bathe comb my hair run my new business so i went from $50,000 a yr to zero. I exhaused all my liquid savings and started tapping into my 401k. It was so dark that i blocked all light and could not be seen. I reached out to my dr to help me bcus i knew sometg was wrong. I could not afford therapist so i got one thru govt medical. Which was terrible! They dropped me when a snow storm locked me in my home for wks plus, the pain i was in. I also have fibromyalgia. Plus my ex was taunting me by posting up infront of my house with his new boo. I was devastated! He never told me it was over, thats how i found out!
    I tried so hard to push thru but i just buried it and kept trying to go on. Eent back to wk 3mos and i spontaneously ruptured disc in my spine which took my mobility til today. I lost my job of 18yrs bcus my job did not care eventho they werent paying me and forced me to retire at an age where i lost 3/4s of my pension.
    I exhaused all my 401k, ira, and liquid savings. Its been three yrs. I cant go back to my life bcus i cant walk work or again, get out of bed physically, mentally, and emotionally? So, i get it! Hearing you speak, i know why im disabled today. I dint heal properly. I know i need mental therapy more than i need my physical therapy bcus I LOST EVERYTHING!

      I NEVER blame the other woman..it is the man we are with that owes us respect in our union. He and he ALONE is at fault for being so selfish, Disrespectful and insecure. So, no blame to her even if she knew bcus no-one does things they dont want to do no matter who's pressuring them. He stepped out and made the choice..its his wrong doing. Stacey, I’m new to your channel so just seeing this. Do you have any suggestions on dealing with toxic family members?

    • @StaceyFlowers
      @StaceyFlowers  6 лет назад +4

      This is an AMAZING question. The best way to deal with toxic family is to 1. limit the amount of time you spend with them, 2. Accept that it is not your responsibility to heal, help, or support them in realizing how toxic they are. 3. Stay compassionate. Just because you are limiting your time with this family member doesn’t mean you tell everyone else in the family what you are doing or why you are doing it. You simple excuse yourself and remain respectfully quiet and compassionate about. Toxic people are usually in excruciating pain (some know but most don’t) so don’t add to their pain by talking about them or gathering other family members against them. Make a decision. Then honor your choice to limit your time. The only other people’s time you can limit is (maybe) your children’s time but even that depends. May my answer serve you. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

    The volume is low on this video. My boyfriend is struggling with anxiety. I would like to further understand it.

    While watching this I kept thinking in my head about the past. How did someone dealt with depression or anxiety 200 years ago or 1000 years ago ? Hugs and kisses to your heart ❤️

      There is a level of "on-ness", expectation, productivity, and output that humans are pressured to deliver in this century that did not exist many centuries ago. Depression and anxiety are mental challenges which means each it begins in the mind so to compare the mind of man today to the mind of man 200 years ago will not lead to comparable experiences of depression. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

      I’m beginning to think mental health is a curse of modern life.

      Donna Crozier You don't think slaves were depressed or the Jews during the Holocaust were depressed? They just didn't have time to sulk and lose their minds but those who did most likely died a painful horrible death because massa and Nazis don't give a fuck about the pain they're inflicting.

      T - hi sorry I was not very clear, I was referring to ancient humans. I just watched a documentary and I guess that’s where my head was at. My thoughts were our hunter gather ancestors were much more in the ‘now’ they had to be to survive and I’m theorising they may have been less susceptible to mental health issues. I am certainly not saying that was better, but when you think in terms of evolution of our brains ‘modern life’ (inc all the eras you mentioned) are very recent. That said who’s to say if a Neanderthal saw his family wiped out by a predator attack they would not experience ptsd. I guess my thoughts were the social changes, technological changes have been huge in a relatively short period of time to how our brains evolved - it’s no wonder we are going to experience difficulties.
