I bought a Stadium Events in 2003 for $400 on eBay only because it was expensive and sold it a decade later for $10k
THATS WHY YOU NEED TO BUY GAMES THAT YOU DONT WANT TO PLAY BUT ARE JUST RARE AND EXPENSIVE.
I think the crazy-priced games like Tornado Outbreak and Dark will come back down, but the majority that are in the $50ish range will stay there. The RPGs and Atlus games will always be highly collectable. Also I don't think the trends in the Wii U and handhelds apply here. Nobody cares about the Wii U. Portables are a niche market. There are 400 wata graded DS games on ebay worldwide. There are 600 wata graded Xbox 360 games.. and the 360 is just now shifting to a collector's market.
I also think nostalgia and collector's FOMO will hit hard for the 360. Once you start collecting, you will realize the 360 was an awesome console and it had so many amazing games. It was the end of an era for games - where developers could take a chance on creating something unique. Final reason, the 360 is a pain in the butt to mod and requires soldering.
You know what all the games that have skyrocketed in price in this video have in common?

Fist of the North Star 2 is actually rare, been in many auction groups for xbox 360 games since 2016 and I've seen it only once

It only works because new games suck, and you can't collect anything new anymore because they want to go digital. every year we get new collectors, but the physical supply is shrinking. It will keep getting worse if they never release anything physical

Only started collecting for the 360 some.months ago because its a huge library with a lot of reslly great games for cheap.
Then fomo hit crazy. I cant wait for this 360 store to close already tbh, then after a few months when peoole stop caring, 98% of 360 games are gonna go back to normal pricing.
Honestly.. I hadn't even checked mercari, ebay, etc in the last month+ until today... and tons of games I was eyeing have already dropped $15-20+ than what they were going for in April/May. Cant wait for the bubble to burst back to noone caring about the 360.

thankfully i bought most of my collection years ago but theres a couple i've been putting off forever so this is finally pushing me to get them

I have been stacking xbox games since i owned my og 360 ... i have over 5k and only see the prices going up across the board ,why? Nostalgia xbox 360 was peek gamin imo the special editions ,collectors sets were insane ,the graphics still look great now and the couch coop titles are the last of there kind .many titles are xbox exclusives never to be released again ... i have every console going back to my commodore 64 and the 360 is still my goat

The amount of Xbox collectors out there compared to Nintendo collectors are way lower. Most 360 games probably had a larger print run compared to Wii U games and I can't think of many 360 games that are considered "grails". Sure there are a few very obscure box sets/limited editions, some which were only given to the devs but nothing crazy that fetches 5 figures like some NES games. Now, the important question is, will PS3 see another spike when it's store closes? All signs point to "yes".
It's a bit funny because I agree with your rationale about 360 vs Wii U, but others have argued that the Wii U is a failed console and doesn't have nearly the nostalgia that 360 has, so 360 will do way better and [it's not fair] to compare the two.

@@GetTheGreg The Saturn was a failed console in NA. PS Vita was also a failed console (technically handheld) and look what happened to those prices. The problem with Wii U is all of the good games were ported to Switch so there is less demand to buy them. The hardcore collector's still want them though. Plus now that Pretendo is a thing which brings back the Wii U servers, the purists like me will want to play the original Wii U versions.
@@GetTheGreg Heh, yeah. My video seems to be the "go to" video when it comes to that. Everyone loves that video and often leave comments about how it helped them. That was one of my most liked videos until the latest video I put out surpassed it. Like, by alot LOL.

I fully agree. I bought a bunch at my local shops and online stores that hadn't caught on back in early April. I've sold some along the way and will sell more in the coming weeks/months. One of my criteria for selling some are the titles that are also on PS3. I am likely going to keep a few games such as Operation Darkness and Zoids Assault since they are Atlus titles. I'm thinking to start playing through the rest to see what I like and what I'm willing to do without. By the way, there has been hype for some Fallout games as well and I've been taking advantage of that spike as well. :)

Like you said, maybe hold onto some of the ATLUS or games that you actually have interest in and just cycle the rest haha

dude I bought dead or alive extreme volleyball for 360 but not for the women- believe what you want- lol but it was to get 1000 gp was in a rush to 100k and when I reached 100k... I felt... what am I doing with my "gaming time" this is just sad. I stopped caring abouit achivements afterwards and cleaned up my act. I wasted a lot of hours playing shitty games to get fast 1000gp. in that game I think I played the casino and just tried to buy swimsuits for the girls, for hours- like that was pathetic looking back, but thats what I did for easy 1000gp :O

I actually do believe in sealed Wii U long-term, but yea, it's had a rough go here that last couple years 🥲
It's because of Switch and it's Wii U remasters with additional content.
Another thing is that in future even if You would like to play e.g. Zelda BoTw it will be easier to play/test game on mobile device than put cables, TV's, console etc (who knows what tv technology is going to be, maybe like today you'll need to buy flat tv like CRT today which is another impediment)
I've had a nice Wii, Wii U and Gamcube collection but when I saw how many of those games is ported to Switch, I've sold them immediately and not regreting till today.
Interesting. I have around 300 Xbox 360 games in my ebay store and I haven't seen a noticeable increase in sales. I've got everything from .99 cent games to $100 games and I can't say i've seen a tick up or down. Pretty much just steady as she goes. I will say though that I was surprised to recently price, and then sell, Fallout New Vegas Ultimate edition for $75, That one took me by surprise. Other than that, I haven't experienced this.

Don't forget the PS3. When that store threatened to close, we saw the same thing happen. PS3 prices have settled a bit but they haven't returned to their original prices. They'll jump all over again when they do finally decide to close that store for good.

I gave into the hype and FOMO, but I'm only getting the ones I'm genuinely interested in playing. Fist of the north star 2 is actually one of those, I was able to get in for like 50 some dls, sadly no manual, but I can live with that. Some others that don't appeal to me I'm just passing on. I think I'm done with my shopping spree for now. I did have a few good 360 games from before all this
I feel some of the ones I got are going to remain expensive regardless, like Fatal Inertia, which I got the urge to buy for some reason. I just hope I don't end up regretting getting it later on lol
In uk they are going up but im lucky I brought most of my games 3 years ago. I think I have 200 games and will start to sell end of next year
In regards to the Wii U, so many Wii U titles have been ported over to the switch. I highly doubt some of these obscure Xbox 360 titles will ever see the light of day on a future Microsoft console. There in lies the rarity/demand..

Devil's Third in a high grade is lower than the high of used. As a Nintendo nerd, I think most xbox and ps2 games used won't be worth anything because they are massed production and aren't tied to a franchise. A game you missed is Raiden Fighters Aces

I don’t collect for investment, but more and more RUclipsrs ignore us game COLLECTORS. Us game collectors collect before hype, because we are better than you resellers, aka every hype RUclipsr. 🎉😂😊

If you collect but out in the wild at rock bottom, boot sales and charity/thrift shops etc you will still find games for the next decade, so relax and take your time.
A big 360 guy. Up to around 650. I refuse to ever pay more than retail for a 360 game. And really thats a stretch lol.

do you know why is the situation the way it is?
So what is the mixture of a game with price increase:
1. Dead or hard to find original development team, that would be able to remaster the game for new generation of consoles.
2. Console exclusivity.
3. Game is tied to the dead and inactive DRM check (for example Microsoft Live)
4. Game has licensing issues. (music or portrayal of licensed, characters, singers, actors, cars, sport teams).
5. A very limited physical release or better yet, physical release was only done in 1 region.
6. A strong game nostalgia.
Now you may noticed that half of the games you have shown have that dreaded Xbox Live logo on the top.
So let me give you an example why is there such price increase for some of them:
1 Darkest of days - released only under Xbox 360 or PC. It got poor reception, but the physical print was not that big. There is no will or desire to redo this game or rerelease it.
As a result, only Xbox 360 version is still playable today, because the PC version will play because of now dead Microsoft Live service.
What does it do with pricing? - Xbox version is hitting 90 USD, which useless PC version is about 5 USD (for a shelve decoration only).
2. It is from Bethesda, but it was not received well when it was released, so Bethesda moved on and no additional game print was called for after the initial batch was put on the market. And btw. that game is also available on PS3, and these prices can affect those that are available on other consoles.
Will Bethesda try to remaster it or make it backward compatible, now that they are Microsoft? It is hard to tell.
However example of Dead Space shows that even if a remaster of a game is well received, it may not be enough to sell well enough.
Do we have a spike now, sure we do, however in a long run they might slowly go still up (after pandemic, when some other games were going up, they did not come back to the pre-pandemic levels even if some of them were rereleased under newer systems).

@getthegreg With the announcement of Marvel Vs Capcom collection on Switch and PS4, how will that effect MVC2 prices on the PS2 and Dreamcast Versions? I can definitely see them drop in price and staying in the $100 range...
Yea I also think theis is going to hurt the current prices for MVC2. It might recover longterm, but I assume for like 6-12 months after this release the price will be the lowest it's been in a longtime.

Time to go through my non back compat 360 titles and see what prices look like. The couple I have that I know are less common (Secret Service, Naughty Bear, Stoked Big Air Edition) are all still cheap.

eh, it depends. Some stuff if you actually want to own it, you'll have to pay close to FMV. Or in other words, you will just have to accept that you will never own certain games if you're only ever hoping to buy cheap.
The market isn’t going to crash, and the prices for rare games will just keep going up as more people start collecting for the 360.
Just look at the PS2 market. You can easily softmod the PS2 with a memory card, and play ISOs off an internal hard drive or USB flash drive, so you don’t even have to buy those expensive games, yet the prices still keep climbing.
My advice is to actually get what you can cheaply right now, because it’s not going to get any better.
4:41 you still have German/European (non english covers) versions out here that have English in-game and are cheap.
I believe that fully! Generally these collecting waves are pretty region specific
@@GetTheGregbut depends what do you want as a collector. I prefer English covers but If game is too pricy I will take non English cover aswell. It just need to have English in game.
@@METAK188 yea that's a great plan! Generally speaking, even if the game is really expensive, I'll either but it or just not buy it, but I won't get a cheaper copy from a different region. Never been something that appealed to me for my own collecting!

There'd still case packs if that crap out there. Over time it'll drop pretty low. It's just too far into DVD style mass production to be worth anyone's while long term.
