Second trip on a new trailer we had for 2 month. It was travel day to hitch and go home. Drove truck forward and hard reversing turn. Got within 2 ft of coupling when I started to see if I clear of a tree. The tree was missing from the passenger side. It's now located on the driver side...huh? I soon realized I was backing up into the trailer next to me instead of my trailer which looks the same. Owner of that trailer just sat in his chair having his morning cup of coffee, but had no reaction while wondering. I guess it's "See no evil, done no evil, say no evil." Lesson learn......trailer nowadays look the same. Well at least from a rear view mirror point of view.

Have been camping with kids and dogs for the last 30 years. Tent camped until 2015 when I bought our first 20 yr old pop-up. Since then I have upgraded to a travel trailer. As I leave, I like to open my truck windows to listen for any issues through the neighborhood (or campground) with hitch, chains, anything. This past Labor Day was my 4 yr old grandson's first trip with me since he was 18 months old. As I am rolling up my windows I hear my dog scrambling and my grandson start yelling about the dog being stuck. I look back, she had stuck her head out the window and did not move as I rolled the window up. Traumatized the poor kid. When we left the campground, he held her collar until I had the windows up. I felt so bad and was worried I had crushed her trachea.

My young granddaughter and I were dumping at a Camping World dump station in Michigan. Thank God no one was around. It was early in the morning. My hose was not long enough to reach the drain so I attached another one and proceeded to open my valve after putting my hose into the drain. The RV tank was very full and unfortunately the hoses broke apart and began flinging poo everywhere! On me, on the side of my rig, it was flinging everywhere. Of course I was not wearing gloves but had to reach down quickly and try to close the tank valve. My 4 year old granddaughter just stood and watched and when I hollered for her to go inside and grab the roll of paper towel she simply replied, “ Boy Grandma, that really stinks!” Yes, I know! Just get the paper towel! Luckily there was a hose and water there so I quickly cleaned everything up before anyone saw what had happened. Most embarrassing thing ever! I felt like we were in a comedy movie! Not funny at the time but the whole family got a huge laugh later with the mental pictures they all had.

We were traveling in Virginia. We were needing to get to a shop in a shopping center. The parking lot was very convoluted and to get where we needed to go with a 40 foot rig, it meant driving thru a bank outdoor drive up window. We saw the height, knew we would fit BUT, THE EXIT OF THE DRIVE thru was a bit higher than the entrance. My sweet husband sheared off the front air conditioning unit of our rig. He was mortified! He went into the bank to let the bank manager know there was some damage to their drive thru. He was ready to give our insurance information, etc. They told him not to worry about it as “it happens all the time”. He climbed up on the roof to see how much damage there was to our rig. Thankfully, it wasn’t too bad but we would definitely need a new air conditioning unit up there. We headed for home, happy we didn’t have any wet weather that might have leaked in. It was an expensive and VERY embarrassing moment. He’s learned now, DON’T got thru a bank drive up window no matter what the height is.

LOL on the poo moment. I know it's not funny at the time cause, yes, it happened to us. When our RV is at the house its not hooked up to a septic system. So we went to a campground about 40 minutes away & paid to dump said septic at a primitive campground with a dumping station. We were having a couple of friends come into town to stay a few days. With a small house, its a nice place for them to stay. As we were emptying the tank, thank goodness there was no one around, the hose slipped off the insert before it was finished. with the poo dump. Fortunately we had some gallons of water to clean up the mess and my husband from the dumping. Lesson learned. Thanks for the laugh and the reminder. ... gt

The one time we laugh the most about happened in our driveway. To set the stage: our neighbor was in her yard tending to stuff, at the time we had a basketball goal (the kind you put 10 or 15 gallons of water in the base to hold it down) on the edge of our driveway, hot summer day trying to load up for weekend trip to the lake. The story goes like this: All loaded ready to hit the road but somehow the basketball net had caught the ladder rack on the back of the RV so, after pulling the goal down our driveway (15') I jump on the roof to free the net, dragged the goal back to the house, and while heading back to the drivers seat I told our neighbor "we decided Not to take the basketball goal" (:

Well, ours pretty well tops them all.......A neighbor camper had a barking, barking BARKING dog that was left outside.......it was running around and nobody was coming out of their camper. I told my now husband, something might have happened to the people in the trailer and I don't want the dog hit by a car or a possible dog fight......WELL, being the sweet man that he is, he went over to the door of the trailer and knocked loudly, over the dog barking, squatted down and was able to hold the dog and calm him down some and then low and behold the door FLYS open and there stands a woman.......a fairly big woman with NOTHING on screaming "WHAT??" and yes, my husband looked up.......straight up.....LOLOLOLOLOL He was like OMG I AM SO SORRY!!! And she is totally mortified!!! But, who answers the door with absolutely NOTHING ON????? We still laugh about it after 10 years

We were driving to Yosemite and I have people waving me and honking at me. Thought they were being friendly or something, as looked back and didn’t see anything and it was dusk. After the third car passed and waved and slowed point at the back of the RV. So I pulled over and my motorcycle has fallen over on the trailer, not dragging or anything, I don’t know how. We almost lost the bike, but just had to lift it and tie it down again.

We went on a trip to Caspar Beach north of San Francisco with my brother who was towing a large 5th wheel. On our way home we decided to go over the Golden Gate Bridge. After we crossed it Google Maps took off at a bad place. Next thing we know we are really close to downtown. I checked Google Maps on how to get out of there. I made a right turn to try to get away and the next thing I realize we are on the steepest street I've ever been on. It was a street or two over from the famous winding Lombard street. I was towing a heavy vehicle and sweating bullets and ran every stop sign going up that hill because I was loosing my momentum and could hear the RPMs decreasing in 1st gear. Luckily, we made it to the top of the hill. We are then driving down narrow streets in the downtown area with everyone walking on the sidewalks looking at us with a shocked look. Like "what are you doing here!". Also, our awning fills up with water too. I use my window squeegee that has an extension on it to release the water. It makes a huge sheet of water that overflows the center area. My kids love it! Lol

The one that comes to mind is our first trip. Even though we live in Florida I spent 53 years in Virginia. We were going from Williamsburg out RT 64 to to RT 81 by Charlottesville. My wife asked if we could stop in Charlottesville for lunch. I said sure. Now we have a 42' Class A diesel pusher. We tow a Lincoln MKX. All hooked up we are 64' long. As I said this was our first trip. I got off the highway one exit to soon by mistake. That put us in Old Town Charlottesville at lunch time. For those if you unfamiliar with the area Charlottesville was the closet town to Thomas Jefferson's home so this town has been around for a few hundred years. The streets in Old Town are narrow. Turning is very restricted. It took me almost two hours to get out of there. We blew past lunch and had a early dinner. I was so stressed out over it that I didn't hook the car back up correctly. Mainly the electric part. I still wasn't sure how everything worked so I out the lights on in the car. This was the first of December and we are driving through the mountains of Virginia in the Rian in the dark. I was scared to death. Cars were just flying by us as we went up and down the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The engine brake and I became best friends that night. About 10:30 pm we pulled into a Love's for diesel and to unhook the car and drive it for a few minutes. Lincoln says we have to unhook the car and drive it every six hours of towing. I go back to the car and the battery is dead. Worse yet the key is in the car and the door locked itself when the battery died. We googled Ford and found a dealership 3 miles away. I figured we could go there, stay the night in their parking lot and they could get us in, in the morning. The dealership was the smallest new car dealer I have ever seen. It was so small we couldn't even get the RV in their parking lot. Fortunately there was a Food Lion directly across the street with a huge parking lot and we stayed there. The next morning Ford got us right in the car and jump started us. What a embarrassing 24 hours. One mistake after the other. We no longer leave the key in the car. I did finally learn how to properly hook up the car. In not knowing how to properly get into tow mode we logged 4,000 tow miles on the odometer.

We had a "poopsie" in Reno. Had just bought a clear elbow attachment for the dump valve. Took it out of the pkg, put it on, pulled the valve and...nothing happened, nothing is coming thru the hose. Turns out, there was some packaging inside the elbow, that you couldn't see. So now we had to figure out how to release the black 'water' , in order to take the elbow off, and try again. A few containers, buckets, and so on, later, we found the issue. And then retried. So embarrassing! Lesson learned. 🤣

This happened during renovation - I had just finished the front frame and skinned it and we took the RV back to where it was parked when I wasn't working on it. We had about four or five people helping... so the chocking of the wheels actually got skipped in all the flitting about. We unhooked and moved the towing vehicle and my RV started heading my direction all by itself! So I quickly grabbed the front, dug my feet in and a friend and I managed to hold it in place, while our minions went forth and rapidly chocked the wheels. No damage, but quite embarrassing. I'm glad only the people with us saw that!

Great stories. I have three black labs. Opening the door and letting them out is just not an option. Its great you can laugh about it. Last week, my dogs were attacked by an off leash Chihuahua with a case of little dog syndrome. The owner came running and was able to grab her dog before my biggest might have ripped its head off. The little dog just wouldn't stop attacking. I was proud of my dogs for not biting that little stinker. I am shopping for a stun gun to break up any future attacks from off leash dogs. I don't want to lose my hands or get mauled just because of a dogfight. Glad it was just people outside for you and not mean dogs. :)
