Chris has run right through my soul and my music since I discovered him about 7 years ago. He's THE idiosyncratic underappreciated genius, playing country blues on a resonator in the wrong decade. I love his music

I grew up in TX listening to SRV, Hendrix, Allman Bros, Buddy Guy, Lightning Hopkins; but when I first heard Whitley I literally said, “Holy sh-t, that’s the most original sound I’ve ever heard.” Gone much too soon, but what he left I’ll never stop listening to.

I got to meet and see him play at Rockefellers in Houston.
He talked to me for an hour before he went to play solo. I was 20 yrs old and I was so damn impressed with him as a person.
The Chronical Reporter tried to butte in but Chris was like I am talking to Mike man. Give me a moment man.
Yeah he was the real shit. He came into my life to late.
I wish I had met him when I was much younger.
I would have liked to be around him and his family.
    Honest. Real. Pure. Piercing.
    I Miss you Bro.

I had the great luck of being in the room! Snapshot memories of a rainy evening in NYC: Chris joking about an old man who had once told him to "Play something you know!" and therefore deciding to play something he knew... or introducing Narcotic Prayer as "a sad song". A very special and intimate concert.

Saw Chris twice at the London Borderline club. There is a recording of the first concert that a friend of mine in Italy has - can't remember what the quality was like. The second time I saw him was more important to us because me and my good lady shook his hand after the concert had finished and had a chat with him. Precious memories. It brings a lump to my throat when I listen to Chris...sometimes it's just too sad and I am unable to listen to him. I ended up buying a National Triolian and occasionally do performances at our bar in France. I learned Leavenworth but sometimes got too emotional to finish the song when trying to play it live. I have the same problem when picking Neil Young's "Pocahontas" Such beautiful music it touches the very soul.

Relative to the limited footage available that I'd already seen, this was an awesome treat! I watched this with my morning coffee yesterday as soon as it came in! I saw him first at The Caravan of Dreams in Ft. Worth in 1991 playing solo. (I was new to Dallas, single & 23) I was at a tiny, two seat table, first row, directly in front of him. About 5 feet away from where he stood up on a 3 foot stage. When he played the last slide note to Make the Dirt Stick I let out a hushed, spontaneous "whew" noise which he heard & he humbly grinned with his head down. The sold out audience was mesmerized for the all too short performance. I saw him last at The Gypsy Tea Room in Deep Ellum a couple of years before he passed. He was unearthly. Damn, I miss living in Dallas in the 90s. I hardly missed a week without live music. Time of my life. . .

+Katie Dewitz .... sending from Dallas here, I missed his last two shows here ( such is life, no?) It was from talking to a couple in the lobby of the Grenada theater while awaiting the band ( The Church,) that Chris's name came up ( to this day still puzzled how his name popped up..Lol) and that was when they told me of his passing, I was floored. Just Chris and that national guitar, all those hell hounds and demons be dammed, when he played that was all that mattered. The ending of "Dust Radio" with all that static and those preachers, always brings me memories of playing with my father's radio, short wave chatter, distant voices from foreign lands, or those preachers on the AM dial while driving through sleepy small towns, he lives on through his music..thank you Chris and bless you Katie, peace.

    Bertrand Dicale

@@francoislaulan9398 Not important enough to go to that effort. Here's a quotation from another article that captures the idea of your quotation (I've used Google Translate - no idea how good the translation is!): "Au fil d'une douzaine d'albums (dont un set live et deux anthologies), Whitley a puisé dans la résonance spirituelle et émotionnelle du blues.
