Today I'm getting ready for Yule and the celebrations have already begun, for me at least. I love getting invested in this season and for the first time in a long time, it snowed in December which fully gets me in the Yule spirit.
This time around I'm doing less spells and rituals than usual, instead focusing on the feeling of the Sabbat and getting ready for the Winter Solstice itself.

As someone who grew up non-religious and a late adopter of Pagan and Witchy beliefs, this was SUCH a heartening video. I love it when we can just celebrate the warmth of the season without needing to completely cut away anything that could be considered "standard" religious practice. My tree and my silly holiday movies thank you so much for this Hearth!

      @marlyd 7 месяцев назад +3

I agree. I understand why people cut out overtly religious celebrations if they have bad experiences with said religion they grow up with. But otherwise it's still a part of our journey in life and keeping traditions that ignite positive feelings and feelings of connection to others seems intuitively right. If it moves around good energy for you, it would be sad to have to let go of them. That's the great thing about witchcraft, no one tells us what we have to let go, you het to choose yourself what no longer serves you.

I still put my Nativity set up - my husband thinks it's hilarious. The stable was made by my previous FiL and my MiL bought the figures for it, so it's partly a way to remember them. The Magi normally make their way across the cupboard full of tarot decks and crystal balls, which seems oddly appropriate 😁

I have a 'fairy' I made from an 11 inch fashion doll that cost £1 that I drag out every year. My first Christmas I was away from home I made her up as a fairy and have used her ever since (about 30 years). I originally made her a dress from crepe paper and wings from a doily. She's had a few pairs of wings over the years (currently sporting a set made from wire and a friend's daughter's sparkly silver tights) and I finally got round to buying her a proper dress a few years ago. Although I could have replaced her and she doesn't really look right, it just wouldn't seem like Xmas without her on the tree. She is my Xmas tradition and I think I will still be dragging her out in my old age and I hope your nativity sees Xmas for many years to come

I make a chocolate Yule log and decorate it then put a candle into it and share with my children and neighbours. I also watch the Stone henge live stream, and I make dried orange slice garlands to honour the return of the sun for my windows whilst watching. I bought a fake tree a few years ago because it is cheaper. My tree decorations are a mix of stuff from my and my husband's childhood's and ornaments I collected every time we travel. My mom started the tradition of collecting travel ornaments and especially with her sudden passing in September it means a lot to me to continue it. My tree skirt was made by mom as was my daughter's stocking so these being out helps bring her loving presents into my home.
I will tell you this as a kitchen witch who does love to bake, even I mess up cookies and other baked goods simply because baking is a science and can go wrong so easily.
The rest of my Yule tide is cought up in the craziness of my 4 year old daughter and trying to keep my cats from eating the Christmas tree. My mom loved Christmas and her 67th birthday would have been on the first so I am keeping her memory alive at her favorite time of year.

We went fake when our daughter moved to her own place (she and husband used to cut down our own trees for xmas from our property). Then we started not bothering to have a tree, but we're spending Yule at their apartment this year. Plenty of decor.

On the night before Solstice day, I will be keeping vigil. I've done this for many years now. Some years I do have a Yule ritual that recognizes the energy of the year and provides a space for contemplation. Then, it's on to staying up until sunrise in my time zone so I can "sing the sun up." I love playing Jethro Tull's "Solstice Bells" that morning of Solstice. I then get some much-needed rest. I celebrate Christmas with my family as that is their tradition. This year on my altar I have a small Christmas tree draped in blue, silver, and white ribbons to represent snow. On top - a beautiful red cardinal. To me, the cardinal is the quintessential representation of Yule along with deer of all types. My favorite feeling to generate in my home is a snowy pine forest under a full moon. After ritual, I will keep myself awake by watching movies that bring the positivity of Yule energy in. My favorite is Sir Terry Pratchett's "Hogfather." I also read the book this time of year as well. I also always watch "Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown." It's a Christian-based short film, but there is something magical about it. It's a very private and quiet time for me. I'll be baking gingerbread (not cookie cut-outs, but more cake or bread-like), and depending on how I'm feeling I may be making sugar cookies that I do cut into shapes and decorate. I love this time of year and I try to allow myself to sink into that deep quiet that Midwinter has.

I'm gonna be baking some eggnog flavored sugar cookies! I'm also throwing a combination Yule/Christmas/New Year party with all my friends, and I plan to do a yule log burning (if we aren't under a burn ban in my area) and also wishing pine cones for everyone's new year wishes! :) I like to make little dressed tea light candles for my loved ones for each sabbat so that they can have a little spark of my love and care for them in their homes (plus really nice smelling candles) and creating sabbat themed jars as well. Basically, I just really like to capture the energy and vibes of each sabbat in cute little trinkets haha I'm a bit of a glitter witch I suppose!

I’ve been Wiccan for years, pretty much the majority of my life, however when lockdown hit I stopped practicing, I stopped having the motivation and every day seeped into the next, it was a dark time for me, like it was for all of us. I didn’t pick up my practice after lockdown as I got hospitalised for a year and had surgery. I decided to start fresh going into the new year as a Norse Pagan, I found out I have Scandinavian heritage and that’s why I’ve always felt a call towards Norse Paganism. I have A LOT of reading and learning to do come this new year but I feel like a simple Yule altar this year that I can build onto in the future is the perfect way to start.
I hope everyone has an amazing Yule!

I still use the Christmas tree my mom bought nearly 15 years ago. I personally see this as the most ethical way to have a Christmas tree in the house and I intend to keep using it until it breaks down.
I love this time of the year because of how quiet and peaceful it feels. On Yule, I don't want to do anything special. I just want to sit in my living room with my two dogs and enjoy the silence of winter as the Sun is reborn and we're slowly entering the light part of the year again.

Love your Christmas tree 🎄 and your altar, Hearth! Doesn't decorating Christmas trees have a more pagan origin? I bought a rosemary bush trimmed in the shape of a Christmas tree from one of the local grocery stores (Arizona, USA). I have that and other significant objects on my Yule/Winter Solstice altar, including images of reindeer 🦌. I was obsessed with flying reindeer as a kid. Thanks for reminding me about the live stream of the solstice sun at Stonehenge and Newgrange. Definitely want to watch this year. OMG! I'm going to miss the final episode of the GBBS!! Thought you might enjoy this: the word for manic-tidying on pockets of the US east coast is called scurryfunging; to scurryfunge. The description states it's the kind of manic cleaning you do when unexpected company is coming over.
Love how you combine your family traditions with your practice! It just makes so much sense. My mother wouldn't understand; because I'm an atheist she calls me the anit-Christ.🤣
Lastly, I don't mean to make you uncomfortable by bringing attention to your appearance but your makeup is stunning! As a kindred pale girl I often find myself admiring your overall style. I'm so pale that if my teeth aren't blinding white they look yellow, even though they're lighter than the teeth of most people. I do love Yule Season and the Winter Solstice! My friends and I get together to celebrate the solstice with candles, yummy treats, and reflecting on the past year. I also do quite a bit of baking for the family - gingerbread and almond toffee are my favorite recipes. I also get really crafty: I'm presently making a 2-storey cardboard box gingerbread house for my matryoshka doll family, and my little mice will be camping out in papier-mache mushroom and pumpkin houses under the Christmas tree! My yule altar is set with holly, ivy, berries and candles. I absolutely love your tree ornaments that are pagan symbols!!! I think I might need to add some sigils to my gingerbread house...

Hearth -- I once found a super-simple recipe for ice cream bread (vanilla ice cream and flour are the basis) and accidentally halved the amount of flour I used. Turned out to be a more-than-passable bread pudding. (Tried again with the proper measures and ended up with a very nice, slightly flat and *not* sweet but tasty bread.) My niece, however, who is approximately 1/5th of my age, seems to be able to achieve tasty success with literally any recipe she comes across so let me know if you need baked goods and I'll tell her, LOL. In all seriousness, it's nice to hear that you continue to maintain those holiday traditions that have meaning for you. Many people are far too quick to toss anything that doesn't *seem* to match a changed lifestyle or spirituality without taking into consideration how emotionally those things & practices may be linked to their innermost being.

Anyway, if any of my many autumn pumpkins make it (two did) to the Yule season, I spray paint them gold (silver would work equally well or any color you prefer) and make them a festive part of my Yule/Solstice decorations.

I love that you tried baking again. The cookies look good, Hearth. When baking, always go for the middle numbers in the cooking time. Today I was baking with my mom and it said 12-15 minutes, which means start with 13:30. Adapt from there and remember that it still continues to cook once you take it out until it is cooled down completely. I also find it helpful to start with one recipe and master that, even if it’s frustrating, before moving to a different one. (When learning of course. Always move on if you don’t like it or sick of it, just learning wise it helps to go this method.)

There is a nice Finnish divination that I'd love to try...they melt small amounts of lead, then throw it into a bucket of water and try to understand how is going to be the new year interpreting the shape...now, it's not so easy to put your hands on lead, and since I have two cats I don't even know is something like that would be safe...but I was thinking, what about wax? Or maybe seal wax? I have candles and I have seal wax, I won't need that much water for it to cool down, a small bowl Is more than enough, and I can experiment the thrill in a way that surely is less permanent, but can also be pretty interesting. Throwing this in the bucket list, because maybe someone else would try to give it a shot 💚

As a Finn I must comment on this. Do not use led as it is poisonous and actually the "new years tin"- charms traditionally sold in regular supermarkets have been made illegal for their large led content and replased with more expensive pure tin ones. Thesharm is done by casting the melted material in a bucket of cold water, some people use a bucket of melted snow. It is becoming low key fashionable to indeed do the charm with beeswax which is easyer to get in other lands. Just remember that if you melt metal on a stove you need a special tool for the thing or else your pot will be ruined. Just google "tinakauha" to see what I mean. The divination itself is often done by the melted lumps shadow in a wall by candle flame.

Love your snowflake topper. I work with kids crafts and I changed the tree craft design to be more winter soulstice oriented, replacing the star of bethlehem corporate has on their example with a snowflake of the winter soulstice. Oh and making the template multi-coloured since we had the ability to do that (encouraging creativity, to hide the pagan elemant from people I want it hidden from). A few people have picked up on the subtle pagan insert in a good way.

I'm so unhappy about the way the days keep getting colder and shorter. I mean, I enjoy the night, but not all the time. I don't have a "tree" or money to get one, but I just can't wait for the days to begin getting longer again.
    Sugar cookies make great gifts.
I am clearing out a lot of clutter, much of which has been accumulating since 2020 and before. Time to start anew. I will, no doubt, find several items that have gone missing.

Im celebrating Yule by baking my Yule Log Cake! :) Its tradition now that every Yule I make it. I actually made it a tradition that every Sabat, I bake and cook a meal with pies, cakes, savory dishes, and many other things. I also do tarot and readings as well, including mediumship for free on social media if im feeling charitable.
This winter season, I am planning on doing lots of spells and rituals and meditation and nature walks to help me advance as a witch. I have copal resin and herbs to make a nice Yule blend!
    Happy Yule, Hearth!

And I thought maybe its Good to start new year with having one and doing it in december would seal my practise as Slavic-eclectic witch 🤟 for what is coming.

🍪 I got amazing cookie cutters they were the Norse symbols ancient Viking symbols or probably some modern-day symbols that we use we think they’re old Viking ;) anyways, expensive and I love them. I got them on Etsy they were probably made on somebody’s 3-D printer. vegvisir valknut etc what you can do with them is make a hard door that dries and instead of using it to eat, you decorate it, make it a little bit thicker make sure to put a hole in the top and you make it as a ornament, my husband has his hanging from his rearview mirror. His car is a Compass 🧭

I dont have any current plans for yule even tho id like to set up a altar and celebrate a sabbat for once 🤣.
Im mainly looking forward to new years eve as it will be one year since i dedicated myself to worshipping Hecate and just seeing how much my life has changed since then. Admittedly ive gotten kinda distracted from my practice lately as ive recently began my weight loss journey last month and have been using my daily work outs as a offering to the horned god hoping to build a working relationship with him as i become more confortable with masculine energy (while i am male i have always been more on the feminine side of things.) May do a additional bay leaf spell or 2 to put some additional intentions out into the universe but i have been doing alot of inner work

I'm a new witch and am starting to research Yule. I was wondering if I am simply able to celebrate or if I need to be more serious. From what I have learned (a lot!) Is that it feels much more comfortable than the more religious tones of Christianity. I have very complicated beliefs, but I would love to join these beautiful traditions! Thank you for this video, and have a wonderful Yule! ❤

I always thought decorated trees were pagan in the first place lol. Something about bringing tree spirits in for the cold months? Offerings of food to them. Lights/gold decor to represent our appreciation of the sun and our eager anticipation for its return. My Christian family stopped celebrating Christmas when my dad found out about all the pagan origins. Now look at me 😂

My first time commenting on your videos, so I must say, I absolutely appreciate you. To make this "short", I truly wish that any practitioner would come across your videos. Especially beginners. Do you have more knowledge than anyone else I have seen you. You are also very respectful and speak up for us male practitioner. I absolutely adore you. Anyway, I only have one thing to say about this video. Christians actually should not put a tree in their homes. Their God said not to bring in a tree, and not to decorate it with a star. Because he said it's what gentiles do. Pagans did that to bring life into the home. Mostly for happy thoughts too get through the winter. Anyway, keep it up, you do a wonderful job at giving proper knowledge. Thank you for that.

The "xmas tree" was traditionally NEVER a christian practice, matter of fact it even states it in the bible to not bring in any tree to your home. The tree was a Scandinavian practice done during the cold dark winter months, as it gets and stays very dark during parts of winter, to keep ppls spirits up with the sight of greenery in the home and remind them of the spring and summer and they would add different items that represented, protection, abundance, the ancestors, and other things tht would help to brighten up the home. The tree is very very VERY much a nordic practice not a christian one....they just, for some reason dnt follow tht part of their book 🤷‍♀️ and have tried to claim it as theirs.....a little history lesson and dive into their own book would clear tht up.
